Summary: Biblical Teaching and Application of Family/ "Federal Union" with Christ

Intro. “Glass half full/ half empty/ not what I ordered?”

- There are three important BIBLICAL concepts found in this text:

I. Headship/family, 12-15

A. Argument in vv. 12-15

1.Sin entered the entire human race through Adam, at the fall, 12.

2.From the time right after Adam’s transgression until the giving of the law, no one was condemned for sins committed, 13.

TS. Nevertheless...

3. During that whole time everyone died!!! 14

B. Other supporting texts:

1.A. Go over 2 Cor. 5:21 in Him, on handout.

2.B. 1 Corinthians 15:22 “22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. ”

3.Romans 5:19 (read in Bible)

 use illustration of “no pigs allowed.”

4. What this means: See family.ppt handout. As is the head of the family, so are the members....

 Do you understand the implications of this?! This text teaches...

II.“Guilt” by Association

A. These people didn’t need to do anything in order to be condemned! (no sinners allowed)

 Does this sound fair?

 Would you want fairness?! Jas 2:10 “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet

stumble in one point he is guilty of all.”

B. Think of the implications!

1. God designed the human race for salvation!

Support: Look at ...

Eph 1:4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,

1Peter 1:20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world,

but was manifest in these last times for you

2.Works are excluded! See 1 Corinthians 1:30 (on your handout)

3.Union/ Family is the basis of everything in the Spiritual life!

TS. And that brethren, is one of the major points in this book of Romans!

 Let’s stop here and pick up on vv. 15-17 next time.

Applications:

1.How could one even think of getting right with God, based upon works?! (No sinners allowed.)

2.How aware are we of what we have and what we are IN CHRIST?

You don’t become, in Christ you are.

You don’t obtain, in Christ you have.

We see Christ’s life fleshed out in our own as we recognize how God has designed

us and the overall scheme of salvation; … and we walk in communion, by faith

if Christ!

3.How likely is one to live like a pig, if they believe they are one?

Invitation to trust in Christ.
