As we enter into the spiritual realm God has promised us we must be prepared for confrontation.
There is no progress without resistance:
Jericho was a fortress city, It was the symbol of the Enemy’s strength and Power
It was made up of Men and women wholly given up to idol worship,
This city stood directly opposed to Israel’s inheritance.
This city had great walls that spoke of it’s great strength, it had a reputation for being indestructible.
They had just begun to taste the goodness of their inheritance they were actually eating the fruit of their promised land.
Josh 5:12 And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
(taste and see that the Lord is good…..)
But this Jericho stood in their way.
Josh 6:1 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
Some are satisfied right there, You don’t bother me I won’t bother you.
Some churches are satisfied right there, We haven’t gained any but hey we haven’t lost any.
But God is never satisfied with containment – To suppress the enemy is never victory
To suppress lust is not victory, anger, resentment, criticism,
To suppress means to hold it inside, certainly if you are holding it inside this is not victory, victory is when the cross has destroyed that thing at the root.
I want us to look for a few minutes at what we’ll call the anatomy of a breakthrough
#1 5:2-3 He circumcised again the children of Israel = Sanctify yourself, take the word and cut yourself loose from anything of the flesh
#2 5:13 He lifted up his eyes and looked ( He looked beyond the walls) He looked to the hills from when cometh his help.
He saw a man over against him with his sword drawn.
#3 5:13 Align yourself with God: The Angel of the Lord said:Nay as the captain of the Lords host I am come (this was actually an old testament theophany, an appearance of Jesus in a form before his birth in Bethlehem, because Christ was not born in Bethlehem Christ has always existed in the father.
#4 Joshua fell on his face and worshipped (This is how we know it was the lord, not just an angel, because angel worship is forbidden in the bible).
Worship is the key note of Destiny,,.
What saith my Lord???? Worship creates the atmosphere for hearing Gods voice, Worship opens the eyes and the ears of the heart to Hear Gods voice.
Ac 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
Worship is the atmosphere for the conception of the miraculous:
1Sa 1:19-20 And they rose up in the morning early, and (worshipped before the LORD,) and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after (Hannah had conceived,) that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.
#5 5:15 Loose thy shoe from off thy foot:
It was to the shoulders of barefooted priests that God entrusted the ark of his presence
To possess our spiritual inheritance, we must become barefooted, = No personal agenda, No selfish ambitions, given up to the plans purpose and will of God walking softly, tenderly .
It symbolizes an exchanged life, My plans for his plans, my will for his will, my desires for his desires.
Now In Chp 6:2 God basically tells Joshua, Now the city is yours.
I don’t know what walls of difficulties you may be facing tonight but I can tell you this, God is looking for Barefoot worshippers, Instead of griping and grumbling and complaining about the problems in your life, just take your shoes off and start worshipping him.
When one bad report after another had reached jobs ears, and from a natural perspective he had lost everything
Job kept himself connected to his destiny through worship.
JOB 1;20-21 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
#6 Obedience is the Key:
God gave directions to Joshua, They were not suggestions, They were his commandments, their victory was totally reliant upon their obedience.
Working the Word:
#7 The People were forbidden to speak = Training ourselves to speak only that which edifies, and glorifies God and ministers grace.
Col 4:6 Let your speech [be] alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Mt 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
Pr 6:2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
Give the example of the Eagles top beak getting out of shape, growing too long, grows over the top of the bottom beak and can starve to death.
But the Eagle has learned, if he can get to the rock he can beat that beak on the rock and beat it back into shape and have a new lease on life.
Many of Gods people are living far beneath their privileges because their beaks are out of shape.
They haven’t learned how to control their tongue and make it work for them.
God commands Joshua to have the people march around the city, One time everyday for six days, then on the seventh day seven times around.
7 is Gods number and it stands for completion, maturity, totality, fruition total obedience.
6 is the number of man, 6 represents the efforts of man, incomplete and insufficient but necessary ( You can’t have a Seven without a Six)
In other words God expects us to do our part.
Seven is complete obedience, regardless of what it looks like, sounds like or feels like.
Heb 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Heb 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
# 8 Shout Josh 6:16 (Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city).
There comes a time, When you know you have lifted your eyes above your problem, and you have taken off your shoes and stood barefooted and worshipped God and you have aligned yourself with God and obeyed his voice, and you have learned how to speak only that which builds up and edifies, all that’s left is to shout
Not because everything looks right or sounds right or feels right, but because God has said the victory is yours and this is the victory that overcomes the world even our faith.
Praise is faith expressing itself audibly.
Faith has a voice, Faith calls those things which be not as though they were, and those things that be as though they were not.
Faith hears God say it’s done, sees God make it done and shouts because it believes it’s done.
I’m talking to someone who needs a breakthrough
What is a Break Through?
It is a victory over or through a wall or anything that presents a united front of opposition against you and the will of God for your life.
Everybody needs a break through at some point in their lives.
Every one of us will come to some place in our lives where we face something that presents it’s self before us as a united unbroken, wall of opposition.
The good news is that Our God is the God of the break through
(Break Through)
break down 11, break forth 5 break out, break up, breaker
1) to break through or down or over, burst, breach
1a1) to break or burst out (from womb or enclosure)
1a2) to break through or down, make a breach in, to burst open
1a3) to break into 1a5) to break up, 1a4) to break open, break in pieces
1a6) to break out (violently) 1a7) to break over (limits), increase 1a9)
1Ch 14:11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim. = (The Lord of the Breaks)
I want to take it even a step farther: He is not only the God of the Break through, he is the God of the breaker. (or we could say, The God of the one who Breaks Through).
The Breaker is the one who goes ahead of the rest and hits the opposition first and breaks it down so the others can go through.
Like a Battering Ram (That knocks the door down)
Like the Marine Corps that is the first to make land fall.
They are the breakers.
Mica 2: 13 The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.
This Scripture tells us that God is on the head of the Breaker
In other words: There is a Breaker anointing, for busting through anything that the enemy has tried to lift up against us.
Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
In other words, God is saying. All the united power and opposition of hell put together will not be able to stop the movement and progress of my anointed breakers.
As I close tonight: I am going to anoint people for a breakers anointing.
I am not foolish enough to believe that everyone wants this, there are a lot of people that are satisfied to sit back and let someone else do the praying and fasting, and pulling down strongholds, and busting through the enemies defences.
So I am only talking to the Elite, the Marine Corps. The special forces. The ones who want to be at the front, the ones who want the privilege of breaking through enemy forces, and throwing down the works of the devil and opening the way for other brothers and sisters to come through.
