Summary: Abortion is to those of extreme value and based upon unbiblical reasons and taking the lives of those that God views as truly profitable to Him.

INTRODUCTION

1. Let’s open our bible to Psalm 127:3.

2. Abortion! Before we read our selected passage we want to ask a few questions about the matter of abortion.

(1) Is abortion a woman’s right, or is abortion the murder of the innocent?

(2) Is abortion something that society decides? Is abortion something that God gives the Supreme Court the authority to decide?

(3) Is abortion really a woman’s choice?

3. For just a few moments we are going to examine what God has to say on the subject of abortion.

DISCUSSION

I. FIRST, LET’S OBSERVE A COUPLE OF BIBLE PASSAGES TO GAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW GOD VIEWS THE LIFE OF THE UNBORN CHILD.

1. Let’s read Psalm 127:3, “………………..”

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward.”

2. “Children being a heritage from the Lord” means that children are inherited from the Lord.

(1) This means that children first and foremost belong to God.

(2) As we might inherit money or a house from our parents, we inherit our children from God.

(3) The fact that our children first belong to God should cause parents to have a high regard for children that God is giving to them.

3. The second part of Psalm 127:3 says, “the fruit of the womb (a child or children) is a reward”.

(1) If we were told that at the time that our child was going to be born that we would inherit or be rewarded $100,000.00 from the Lord, I’m sure we would be excited and looking forward to that inheritance or reward from the Lord.

(2) I’m sure all of would be thrilled beyond imagination!

4. Turn to Matt. 16:26. This passage teaches us that an inherited child from God is worth more than $100,000.00

(1) This passage teaches that an inherited child from God is worth more than the whole world.

(2) Let’s read Matt. 16:26, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”

5. God expects parents and grandparents to be good stewards of what He provides parents as an inheritance.

(1) God expects parents and grandparents to mold the life of children to where they become products of teaching from the bible.

(2) God expects parents and grandparents to be good enough stewards to where that he can one day receive His children back and receive them up into heaven with Him.

6. These bible passages teach us that God does not think of unborn children merely as tissues, DNA, or an unborn fetus. God views children as an extremely valuable gift.

(1) Parents and grandparents should also view children as a remarkable gift!

(2) They are truly a gift from the Lord.

7. These bible passages also teach that we must realize what abortion truly is.

(1) Abortion refers to the deliberate early termination of a pregnancy.

(2) That deliberate termination of the pregnancy then results in the death of the fetus, which in reality is the death of a precious inheritance, which was first given to parents as a reward.

(3) Thus, abortion is the killing or murder of an unborn child inside the mother’s womb (which should be the safest place for a child to be).

II. SECOND, LET’S LOOK AT A FEW REASONS WHY SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT ABORTION IS NOT WRONG.

1. REASON #1: People frequently say that the unborn child is “not alive. They reason along the lines: the unborn is just an embryo or fetus. It is not to be considered “a human life” until it comes out of the womb.

2. REASON #2: Some declare that they must abort the baby, due to the baby being conceived by rape. Surveys show that only 1% fall into this category.

3. REASON #3: Some insist that it is not fair to the baby or to them a parent for the baby to be born because it has a physical deformity.

(1) Down’s Syndrome is a physical deformity that causes many to prefer to abort the baby. But, those that keep and read Down’s Syndrome children say they become the light and joy of their life.

(2) Also, of interest, out of all abortions, surveys show that only 1% of abortions are due to physical deformities.

4. REASON #4: Some abortions are because a doctor has decided that the mother’s life was in danger. Surveys report that 4% fall into this category.

2. REASON #5: Some will say that the mother was not ready to have a baby. Thus, since she personally was not ready, then the baby does not need to be born.

(1) They will use such reasoning as ‘it is just not a convenient time for me to have a baby”.

(2) They will also make such statements as: “it is the mother’s right to choose.”

(3) The idea is that it should be the mother’s choice as to whether or not to have the baby, and that it must be her decision.

(4) Surveys reveal that approximately 93% of all abortions fall into this category.

4. There are other lines of reasoning that many give, but what we have discussed covers some of the more common statements about why many think that abortions are not wrong.

III. THIRD, FOR ANOTHER MAJOR POINT FOR DISCUSSION: WHAT DO DIFFERENT SCRIPTURES TEACH TO DESCRIBE AN UNBORN CHILD THAT IS STILL IN THE WOMB?

1. Turn in your bibles to Genesis 25:21-26. This passage describes two twin boys that would soon be born. God describes them as actual human beings when He uses terms such as “children” – “two people” – “two nations”.

(1) As God spoke to Isaac and Jacob in reference to Esau and Jacob, God spoke of them, even though they were in the womb, as if they were out of the womb and well and alive.

(2) Let’s read Genesis 25:21-26, “…………………..”

2. Turn to Jeremiah 1:4&5. God speaks to Jeremiah and tells Jeremiah that before he was ever born that God considered Jeremiah to be far more than a nonliving fetus.

(1) God considered the unborn life inside the womb of Jeremiah’s mother as an important and live human being. A being human being that would preach God’s word for Him.

(2) Let’s read Jeremiah 1:4&5, “………………….”

3. Turn to Amos 1:13-15. This passage provides a warning from God to the king and the citizens of the nation of Ammon. The Ammonites were guilty of ripening women open and removing their babies.

(1) The Ammonites, in a form were committing abortion to the women of Gilead.

(2) The purpose was to kill the babies so that the people of Gilead would be less in number.

(3) The Ammonites, by killing the future generations of the people of Gilead, would be able to enlarge their land borders.

(4) Let’s read Amos 1:13-15, “…………………….”

4. God was angered at the Ammonite king and all of the citizens and punished them.

5. God will eventually punish those in America that encourage and permit and practice abortion.

CONCLUSION

1. Turn to 2 Cor. 5:17. This passage teaches that when one obeys the gospel they become a new creation or a new creation in Christ.

Let’s read 2 Cor. 5:17, “………………….”

2. Turn to Romans 6:3. 2 Cor. 5:17 teaches that for one to become a “new creation” and for “all the past to be done away” and “all of life to become new” that the individual must be “in Christ”.

(1) Romans 6:3 teaches that the final step in the plan of salvation that puts one into Christ is obedience to the command of baptism.

(2) Baptism alone will not put one into Christ, but the one who believes, repents and confesses that they believe that Jesus is the Son of God is a ready subject to obey the command of baptism and at the same time enter Christ.

(3) Christ shed His blood during His death and when we sincerely obey the command of baptism, God has so designed the plan of salvation, that it is as we are being baptized that we come in contact with the cleaning blood of Jesus.

(4) Let’s read Romans 6:3, “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

3. Every person becomes a new creation, from a physical standpoint, when they are conceived as an unborn child. God demands for those responsible for the conception to allow that unborn to have the opportunity to be born and to grow up and mature as an adult.

4. During part of that growing up and maturing period, while on earth, God expects each individual to obey the gospel and become a “new creation” spiritually.

5. We encourage you to come forward and let us assist you, as you would express your belief, repentance, confessing that you believe that Christ is the son of God and obey the command of baptism.
