Summary: This is a powerful word that will give the people live, and remind them of who they are in Christ and through His Word.

Come, and Live Isaiah 55:1

“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.

The Hebrew word used for thirst here is a word that has a deeper meaning. Dr. F. C. Jennings, the great Hebrew scholar, puts it this way, “The invitation is for all who are dissatisfied and deeply feel that they are missing a vital ingredient in their life.”

The prophet Isaiah invites his readers to participate in the benefits obtained by the suffering of the Servant in Isaiah 53. Here we see an open invitation for all to come. Come, without money and without price- come! It seems that the majority of the book of Isaiah is written for the reader to prepare for freedom, prepare for grace, prepare for contentment and rest. Abundance, prosperity, riches, love, joy and peace.

Verse 1 say’s, Come to the waters;

The Pulpit Commentary says that the water that is spoken of here in Isaiah is “divine grace.”

Verse 1 again says, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk.

Wine and milk- symbolize, abundance, satisfaction and prosperity.

Many have been tricked into believing debt, money and more material things bring- 1. Abundance 2. Satisfaction 3. Prosperity.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.

This speaks of those who seek God’s righteousness rather than attempting to establish a righteousness of their own. Your righteousness is based upon works-what you do, and what you don’t do!

Come live in abundance, satisfaction and prosperity.

This is the opposite of the self-righteousness of the Pharisees. (They had the OT scriptures, but that’s all.)

The world cries, earn, own, buy, debt, keep up with the Jones’.

Jesus said in John 4:14NKJ but whoever drinks of the water (divine grace) that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water (divine grace) that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water(divine grace) springing up into everlasting life.”

Matthew 13:44NKJ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Revelation 21:6NKJ And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life (divine grace) freely to him who thirsts.

You might ask, “why am I unsatisfied, unhappy, miserable, depressed?” “Why am I looking for something more?”

Listen to Isaiah 55:2 The question is Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.

Abundance- is only found in Christ!

Biblically, there are two types of bread: The bread of life,or the bread of deceit. Leavened, or unleavened bread.

False bread- Proverbs 20:17 Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel. (Jesus plus) But it’s Jesus plus nothing.

John 6:35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

God say’s, I Am the Door of the sheep,(Jh.10) I Am the Good Shepherd,(Jh.10) I Am the Resurrection and the Life,(Jh.11) I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (Jh.14) I Am the true Vine. (Jh.15)

Isaiah 55:3 Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— The sure mercies of David.

This is speaking of the New Covenant... An open invitation- to come, rest, hear and learn, praise, grow.

A lifestyle of grace doesn’t exempt you from trouble, but you will ultimately be the winner! John 16:33 Jesus said, These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

It’s a free feast!
