Amos 10
1. God¡¦s warning ¡V locusts, fire, a plumb line & ripe fruit
2. Mercy triumphs over judgment
3. Human opposition to God as judge and to His messengers of judgment
Although opposition will arise to the proclamation of judgment; there is one thing we may be certain of:
4. Ultimate fulfillment of justice.
Amos 9:1-6
1 I saw the Lord standing by the altar, and he said:
"Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds shake.
Bring them down on the heads of all the people; those who are left I will kill with the sword.
Not one will get away, none will escape.
2 Though they dig down to the depths of the grave, from there my hand will take them.
Though they climb up to the heavens, from there I will bring them down.
3 Though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, there I will hunt them down and seize them. Though they hide from me at the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent to bite them.
4 Though they are driven into exile by their enemies, there I will command the sword to slay them. I will fix my eyes upon them for evil and not for good."
5 The Lord, the LORD Almighty, he who touches the earth and it melts, and all who live in it mourn¡X the whole land rises like the Nile, then sinks like the river of Egypt-
6 he who builds his lofty palace [b] in the heavens and sets its foundation [c] on the earth, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land¡X the LORD is his name.
From one of scripture to the other and from every segment of scripture ¡V God reveals Himself as Judge and defender/provider of justice.

„« Abraham calls Him ¡§the Judge of all the earth¡¨ who deals justly.
„« The Egyptians are judged for oppressing the Israelites.
„« Judgment thunders from Sinai throughout the law.
Psalm 98:8-9
8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
Let the mountains sing together for joy; 9 let them sing before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity.

4"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

Revelation 14:19-20
19The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath. 20They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia. (300Km.)
A.) Opposition has no effect on outcome.
Opposition may arise to the declaration of judgment ¡V this has no effect on the eventual fulfillment of said judgment.
Amos prophesied around 760 BC and the Assyrians conquered the Northern Kingdom around 720 BC.
Psalm 2:1-4
1 Why do the nations conspire [rage] and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. [b] 3 "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters."
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
B.) Defiance does not impress the creator of all things.
Psalm 2:1-9
1 Why do the nations conspire [rage] and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. [b] 3 "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters."
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6 "I have installed my King [c] on Zion, my holy hill." 7 I will proclaim the decree of the LORD :
He said to me, "You are my Son [d] ; today I have become your Father. [e]
8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will rule them with an iron scepter [f] ; you will dash them to pieces like pottery."
C.) Only one thing works.
Only one thing has been shown to help man avoid the coming justice of God ¡V repentance and a cry for mercy.
Psalm 2:1-11

2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. [b] 3 "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters."
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6 "I have installed my King [c] on Zion, my holy hill." 7 I will proclaim the decree of the LORD :
He said to me, "You are my Son [d] ; today I have become your Father. [e]
8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will rule them with an iron scepter [f] ; you will dash them to pieces like pottery."
10 Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
