Summary: A review of chapter 7 verses 1 through 13

Song of Songs 7: 1 – 13

Save The First and Last Dance For Me

1 How beautiful are your feet in sandals, O prince’s daughter! The curves of your thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a skillful workman. 2 Your navel is a rounded goblet; It lacks no blended beverage. Your waist is a heap of wheat set about with lilies. 3 Your two breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle. 4 Your neck is like an ivory tower, your eyes like the pools in Heshbon by the gate of Bath Rabbim. Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon which looks toward Damascus. 5 Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel, and the hair of your head is like purple; A king is held captive by your tresses. 6 How fair and how pleasant you are, O love, with your delights! 7 This stature of yours is like a palm tree, and your breasts like its clusters. 8 I said, “I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of its branches.” Let now your breasts be like clusters of the vine, the fragrance of your breath like apples, 9 And the roof of your mouth like the best wine. The wine goes down smoothly for my beloved, moving gently the lips of sleepers. 10 I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me. 11 Come, my beloved, let us go forth to the field; Let us lodge in the villages. 12 Let us get up early to the vineyards; Let us see if the vine has budded, whether the grape blossoms are open, and the pomegranates are in bloom. There I will give you my love. 13 The mandrakes give off a fragrance, and at our gates are pleasant fruits, all manner, new and old, which I have laid up for you, my beloved.

Ladies, here are a couple of questions for you. Do you like to dance? Okay, now what about dancing just for your husband, when no one else is around? Now here is a very difficult question to ask yourself, ‘If your husband was going to pick a woman that he desires sexual pleasure, would he choose you? You might be saying, ‘he better pick me.’ But in all sincerity, are you totally sold out in providing your man with everything he needs? A little spice just enlightens your relationship.

Chapter 7 is a very beautiful and sexual chapter. In order to please her husband, the Shulamite decided to do a dance before her man naked. Boy does this turn faces red with embarrassment. However, we will read that it has a tremendous impact on her man. So, let us see what happened.

In these verses Solomon is going to describe ten of his wife’s physical characteristics that greatly arouse him. In chapter 4 on their wedding night Solomon mentioned 7 of her characteristics. Why the difference? I would guess that on his honeymoon he responded more quickly. Here he is taking in more of his wife’s total beauty and so describes it to her.

First of all he looked this time at her body from the feet up.. In chapter 4 on their wedding night he started at her head and worked downward in his complements. As she danced his eyes were drawn to her feet. Without a doubt she was not doing a tap dance in front of him. She was doing a seductive movement and this he appreciated and started commenting on it. She had attractive feet which were properly cared for and so he noticed.

His eyes move upwards and took in the movement of her legs. He now focused on how well built she was. What is nice about this is that he takes now the time to take in her full physical being. In most marriages probably the man has not done this. In the hurry of self-fulfillment the couple comes together and misses out on the full appreciation of each other.

Now we come to a interesting development. The next description says. “2 Your navel is a rounded goblet; It lacks no blended beverage.” Now you might say that this is referring to her belly button. Nope! I do not believe that his eyes went from her belly button back down. The term ‘goblet’ is better described as a bowl in the shape of a half-moon.

Have you ever seen the symbols for male and female. The male symbol looks like a tiny dart on top of a little circle. The female symbol is a little circle with a short line and a half-moon symbol on top of the line. Solomon is focusing on her reproductive area and includes the additional comment of this point by referring to it ‘Your waist is a heap of wheat set about with lilies.’

After commenting on her breasts then her neck, he is fixated on her eyes.- ‘your eyes like the pools in Heshbon by the gate of Bath Rabbim’ Heshbon was a city noted for its beautiful pools. We see here a description that her eyes told a lot about her to him. He saw luminosity, purity, and peace in her eyes.

He wasn’t saying that she had a big nose by saying, ‘Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon which looks toward Damascus.’ A term I do not hear too often from ladies when they need to go to the bathroom is ‘I need to go powder my nose.’ Why do I bring this up? Well Damascus has these famous limestone cliffs. When the sun hits them they give off a brilliant white glow. So, what Solomon is saying to her that her nose reflects her character in that she shines to him.’ She lights up his life.

Mt. Carmel near the city of Haifa has been called the ‘crown city’ in Israel. When Solomon says to her, ‘5 Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel, and the hair of your head is like purple; A king is held captive by your tresses’, he is saying that she is beautiful and that she definitely fills the role of being a queen. Apparently, she had placed some purple flowers in her hair and with these he comments on her royalty.

We see here also a beautiful picture of how our Precious Lord Yeshua looks and thinks about us. He sees us as the perfection of beauty and the delight of His eyes. He sees us as being ‘Justified’ – just as though we had never ever sinned against Him. He also sees us ‘Sanctified’ – set apart as his future bride, and He sees us ‘Glorified – with Him in heaven.

Like the individual descriptions of the Shulamite, our Lord takes note of every aspect of our lives. He Is familiar with every one of His children and every thing about them.

We read this in the book of 1 Corinthians chapter 12, “12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be?20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23 And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.”

We see the importance to our Lord relative to each one of His. Whatever part of the body He has made you serves a great benefit to the entire body of Christ.

In the next portion of the Song of Solomon we read on how Solomon finds great delight in his wife’s physical affections

We read this in the book of Proverbs chapter 5, ‘15 Drink water from your own cistern, and running water from your own well. 16 Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets? 17 Let them be only your own, and not for strangers with you. 18 Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth. 19 As a loving deer and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; And always be enraptured with her love.’ Here we read about the enjoyment that a man should find in his own wife.

Just her presence has a great and exciting affect on him. He is enticed to respond to her. When he says that he will go up to the palm tree in effect he is saying that the effort he wants to put forth with her is definitely worthwhile.

We see the refreshing way she affects him when he refers to the cluster of the vine. Have you ever had some fresh picked grapes than you know the feeling. All his senses; smell, sight, taste, sound, and touch are at peak levels as we read here in these verses. The reference to wine means celebration. They were both totally satisfied with each other Then the culmination of total satisfaction and contentment as they fall asleep in each others arms. Wow!

A special note should be made here relative to waiting until you are married. You miss out greatly when you have pre-marital sex. I always ask couples who want to get married and have fallen into this sin this question – What is going to make your honeymoon special? Going off to some tropical island or some other destination does not make your honeymoon special. You have been robbed of the most exciting time in your life, next to getting Jesus in you life as your Lord and Savior.

Premarital sex is bad because of these points;

1. It robs you of objectivity By guilt or a possible pregnancy you make rash decisions and miss out on who our Lord might just fit you with the perfect partner

2. It ruins discovery. If you have been with us since chapter 1 of this book you have for yourself come to understand the excitement of the discovery both have enjoyed. I would encourage you to review the previous lessons to discover these great experiences for yourself.

3. It ruins the physical and emotion satisfaction of both parties in the long run. Again guilt, shame, fear, self-fulfillment, temporary lust, parental problems, lack of trust, etc. all accumulate in the couples lives and manifest themselves in future difficulties for both people.

When we do things the right way, the couple feels toward one another a proper commitment 1

0 I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me.

This is the third time this verse has been stated. However, it has been changed each time. In chapter 2 verse 16 the Shulamite has indecision about their marriage. She says, ‘My beloved is mine and I am his.’ She had felt that she was sold out for him but was not sure his feelings were the same.

The next time this type of response comes up is in chapter 6 verse 3, ‘I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.’ This response was made after she was indifferent to his desires. She had thought that she was just around for his sexual pleasure and was having a hard time with those feelings.

We see now that her insecurity has been appeased. She has used her woman power to totally satisfy her man and she knows it. She now has the contentment that everything between them two is good. She knows in her heart that he is hers.

Having now patched up their lives they both desire to get away for awhile to a secluded resort.

This should be a condition that all marriages undertake and that is to get away together. It may sound shocking but this should be done at least every three months. It does not have to be expensive. There are many creative ways and you know it regarding how this can be done. Please notice that the woman came up with the idea. Ladies do not wait around until your husband comes up with the idea of getting away If you wait for him to come up with a get away you might be waiting a long time. Do I hear a big amen on this statement?

Additionally, ladies please note how she has used her words to tease and excite him as to this adventure. Why not give this a try with your guy and see how it works out.
