Habits of Heavens Heroes – Shiphrah, Puah, Jochebed, and Moses

Rom 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience [ cheerful / hopeful endurance] and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.[Confident expectation]

Exo 1:15 And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:

Exo 1:16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

Exo 1:17 But the midwives feared God, [ profound deep respect love fear] and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

Exo 1:18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

Exo 1:19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

Exo 1:20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

Exo 1:21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

Shiphrah and puah were probably managers over several hundred midwives

their habits.

1. didn’t care about their position or their lives

2. had a profound deep fear reverence respect and love

3. put others before themselves cared for others

Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

Deu 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

-shall be in thine heart:

-teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when you sit down, and when you walk by the way, and when you lay down, and when you get up.

Deu 6:10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,

Deu 6:11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;

the result was : gods response

1.god dealt well – yaw tab – make successful and happy

2.the people multiplied and grew strong

3.and god made or advanced the midwives homes

-Let us remember these ancient writings and apply them to our lives

Exo 2:1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. jochebed

Exo 2:2 And the woman conceived, and bore a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink. He was saved by the water

1 pet 3:20 – 21 tells us that we are saved by the waters of baptism

And moses sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

And when she had opened it, she saw the Moses: and, he was crying And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

Miriam moses sister who had been hanging around to see what was going to happen to moses said to to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

Exo 2:8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.

Exo 2:9 And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

Jochebed was moses momma her name means Jehovah heavy or glorified she allowed god to get all over her and in the worst time of her life where either moses would be found of pharaohs murderous agents or he would die in an ark in some water she put him in gods hands

Jochedbeds habits

1. there is a strong inference that they trained him in godliness

2. she was heavy w/ god

3. they had strong convictions so Miriam aaron and moses did

4. heb 11:23 by faith constancy loyalty belief dependnace

God had this all set up just like he has our lives set up if we can release our lives to him

- what a tremendous god thing the lord allowed this broken distraught but god heavy mother to train up her son to around the age of 4

- in that time I believed that momma and daddy jochebed and amram put some strong convictions and a great foundation in his life

- these were strong parents these were dedicated parents

- here o Israel the lord our god is one

- in the beginning god created the heavens and the earth

Exo 2:10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

when Moses was grown, he went out unto his people, and looked on their burdens: and he saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brethren.

And he looked around and when he saw nobody around he killed the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

And when he went out the next day, two Hebrew men of the walked together: and he said to moses

And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

Moses stepped into a position of power and authority before he had earned the peoples respect

Moses habits.

1. cared about others

2. god was his portion[refused to be called the son of pharaohs daughter ] power money titles were not his portion

3. he was spiritual minded

Heb 11:26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.

Will not enjoy sin for a season there is too much to lose

Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

Exo 2:16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

Exo 2:17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

4. willing to stand up

5. willing to help is a servant

Exo 3:1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

6. he was a leader

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. This is kind of out of the way and my schedule is tight but I am drawn to it…

7.he had a heart for godly things

And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

8. he responded to gods call

And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

As god spoke moses hid his face

9. a deep reverence / fear of god

After god told moses all he was going to do to deliver his people and god called moses to do it his response was

10. humility

Ex 3:11 ….Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
