Who is Nicodemus?
A Jewish Leader, a Pharisee.
One who conversed about the things of God!
One who desperately wants to know "What does God say?"
The Conversation:
1. Starts with what Nicodemus "knows". Vs. 2 "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him." (NIV)
2. Jesus issues this proclamation! Vs. 3 "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." (NIV)
Question: What does it mean to be born again?
Vs.5 "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." (NIV)
Birth by definition, is a passive act!
Again by definition, is a repeated action but requires the original source to repeat it. Greek word "Anothen".
Born: God exerts the effort!
Again: God restores the beauty!
Simply: "God handles the task of salvation from start to finish."
3. Born Again thought cold cocks Nicodemus! Vs. 9 "How can this be?" (NIV)
The Hope of the Bible:
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (NIV)
