Summary: David and his followers left Jerusalem when he got the word what his son Absalom intended to do because, David didn’t want to have a battle there as he knew it ruin the city that he loved so much.

Psalm 11 verse 1,2 and 3

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Psalms 11 was written by King David when he was trying to be over thrown by his own son Absalom. You can find the story of Absalom in II Samuel chapters 13 thru 20

King David had 11 wives and 7 children …Absalom was his 3rd son

Bible says that he was a beautiful man in

2sa 14:25 But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

I don’t know too many men that would fit that description today do you?

In verse 26 of 11 Samuel 14 Bible says that he cut his hair once a year and what he cut would weigh 5 lbs.

He probably made some of the ladies jealous too with his hair and beauty.

He used his good looks and charm to politic against his Dad David to replace him as king.

Absalom had many to follow him out of the land of Judah and they were ready to kill King David to see him take the throne.

David and his followers left Jerusalem when he got the word what his son Absalom intended to do because, David didn’t want to have a battle there as he knew it ruin the city that he loved so much.

So his advisors told him to flee to a mountainous region east of the Jordan River called Gilead

David wasn’t in the habit of running from anything or anybody but, in order to regroup and keep from destroying Jerusalem, he did what they advised.

That’s the reason David wrote in verse 1 “how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

In those days Kings and leaders would have advisers and spy’s just as country’s do today

When Absalom and his followers entered Jerusalem everyone was gone except a few servants that David left to keep things clean.

David had gotten word that Absalom had entered the city and David could see the corruption that would happen if his son got to be King.

That’s why David said in verse 3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Because there were enough followers of David’s son Absalom that they did crown him king while in Jerusalem or so they thought, God is still on the throne.

Absalom was forgetting one thing. David was a great warrior he defeated Goliath and a lot more giants in his life a lot larger than his son Absalom.

David didn’t flee because he was afraid, he left Jerusalem to regroup and prepare for war.

David had 3 Captains and divided his warriors between those 3 and when Absalom lead his army to where David and his army was to destroy him.

There was a great battle but, David won.

David didn’t want his son killed. He stated that in II Samuel

But one of David’s captains killed his son Absalom and David grieved because of his death.

David was still king over the land of Judah.

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

I’ll tell you what David said in verse 1 of Psalm 11 In the LORD put I my trust

We live in a great nation, but the foundations of our nation are crumbling all around us

We have 3 major foundations in our country and neighborhood. Home , Church and Government.

Home: We are not living in the “Leave It To Beaver” era anymore. A better description would be that we are living in the “Desperate Housewives” era.

Divorce is at an all-time high.

Many homes are not a place of refuge, but a battlefield.

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Psalm 127:1 makes it clear, "Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it

If God is not in a home and family, then all the effort of building home is useless is what the Bible is saying.

Mother Teresa was quoted as saying:

"I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world.”

Whether we realize it or not our life is much like a pencil.

It is designed for a purpose just like you and I.

It leaves a mark for others to see as our children or Grand children.

And that mark could make a lasting or maybe even an eternal impression on someone.

The Pencil has a trademark that distinguishes it from all other Companies

Just like you can look at a pencil and know that it came from Paper Mate or etc.

There are things that mark us as Christians that show that we are the possessions of our Lord. Folks should see Jesus in you and me

The old saying ”if you were arrested for being a Christian would there be enough evident to convict you?

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Leave Godly marks for others to go by that's what we can do

There is just so much false teaching and corruption in churches and in the public eye today its really sicken, you don't have to look far.

Turn on the TV.

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Turn them off….run if you have too….but don't listen.

Folks, you can look in the phone book and find the right help for most anything at anytime day or night.

But there is a man in the Bible that can make the blind see, the cripple walk, Jesus Christ our Lord.

He can put a sword in your hand to fight off anything that comes along.

Do what King David did in Psalms 11 verse 1 In the LORD put I my trust.
