# 5~FOUR –pt 1~ THE MEANING OF BIBLE NUMBERS 10-29-11

Today we’ll continue to look into the meaning of Bible Numbers if the Lord be willing and today we will say a few things about the number “four”.

The number four always has reference to all that is created. It is the number of things that have a beginning, of things that are made, of material things, and matter itself. It is the number of material completeness. Therefore it is the number of the WORLD.

The number four is made up of three and one (3+1=4), and in this understanding it marks that which follows the revelation of God in the Trinity, (3) being the number of the TRINITY, (1) is the number of God.

The Trinity is found in the first three verses of Genesis 1:

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God (three Godhead) ---created (four) the heaven and the earth.

2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. (Two) is the number of division and witness, and very often the number of Satanic activity.—as we’ve already pointed out in the 2nd of all the epistles in the New Testament, and mostly in chapter two, if you’ll recall we saw the Devil busy about his activities in the 2nd epistles., he is the divider, he’d love to divide every family, church and country.

And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3And God said, (the WORD) Let there be light: and there was light. 4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. The Jewish day starts and ends at sun set.—not like the Gregorian calendar we go by.

------------

Notice; the FOURTH day the material creation was finished in Genesis 1:14-19.

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; listen to the four parts of time--and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, (sun) and the lesser light to rule the night: (moon) he made the stars also.

I want to say right here, the moon has no light of it’s own, it reflects the light of the sun, it makes us think of Christians, we have no light of our own, we are so to speak reflectors, we reflect the LIGHT of our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ the SON of God.

Matthew 5:14-16 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Now back to Gen.1:17, remember we’re talking about the number “four” today, the number of creation.

17And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, (sun, moon, and stars) 18And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

---------------

The first and second chapters of Genesis, is the record of CREATION, the word Creature is found four times, beginning in verse 20.

1: 20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so—

And then in chapter 2:19

2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature that was the name thereof.

Romans 8: 19-22

In these verses we’ll find the word “creature or creation” 4 times. –the same Greek word

(Ktis-is) for both- Remember “4” is the number of creation.

Romans 8:19-22 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

God is known by the things that are clearly seen; even in the deepest Africa or back in the hill sides of this country people can look on His creation and see the handy work of the Lord and know that there is a God.

Psalm 19:1-4 The heavens declare* (evidence, show forth, speak, talk, and tell) the glory of God; and the firmament (an expanse, the visible arch of the sky) sheweth his handywork. 2Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.

According to these verses in Ps.19:1-4 every person in the world can plainly see and understand that there is certainly a SUPREME power that created all things, and they are without excuse.

Four is the number of the great elements and notice they are to do with creation—earth, air, fire, and water.

FOUR kingdoms of resources, they are mineral, vegetable, animal, and spiritual.

Four are the regions of the earth—north, south, east, and west.

Four are the seasons-- spring—summer—fall- winter.

Four are the divisions of the day—morning, noon, evening, night.

Four are the variations of the lunar phases. 1st qu. -full- 3rd qu. –new moon

Four x six are the-- hours of the day. = 24

When Jesus spoke of His coming He said it might be at any watch--evening, midnight, cock-crowing, or in the morning.

Mark 13:35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:

Therefore, by this we understand that we are never to put off His coming in our minds beyond tomorrow morning. — When is cock-crowing time?

In Jesus time the Jews had adopted the Greek and Roman division of the night into four watches, each consisting of three hours, the first beginning at six o'clock in the evening—

SO--6-9 P.M is the 1ST watch__9 P.M.unto12 midnight is the 2ND watch—12 midnight unto 3 A.M. the 3RD WATCH (cock crowing)—3 A.M. unto 6 A.M. is the 4th watch.--

The cock usually crows several times soon after midnight (this is the first crowing), and again at the dawn of day (this is the second crowing).

In Revelation 5:13 we read about FOUR CREATURES --- FOUR different places--- FOUR words of praise to the Father and to Christ, ----but first I want to read verses 11&12 and let me point out that this is immediately after the rapture, notice the seven attributes applied to Christ and the reason why, seven being the number of perfection and completion.

11And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts

(Four living creatures, their seen first in chapter four and verses 6-9) and the elders: [church] and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

[innumerable] 12Saying with a loud voice, --notice these seven attributes we read here, seven the number of perfection and completion-- Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.

Now lets get our mind back on the number four, FOUR CREATURES --- FOUR different places--- FOUR words of praise to the Father and to Christ,

13 And every CREATURE which is in heaven (1), -and on the earth (2), -- and under the earth (3), and such as are in the sea (4) == and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, (1) and honor, (2) and glory, (3) and power, (4) be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever.”

14And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders [church] fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

Ezekiel had a vision of the four Cherubim’s.

In Ezekiel 1:5-10

Moreover, let’s be sure to notice that they were FOUR in number. Each had FOUR faces and also FOUR wings.

All of these descriptions are earthly creatures-- Here the number FOUR is associated with CREATURES FOUR times.

Listen as I read verses 5-10 of Ezk.1:

Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

6And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

7And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass. [their feet sparkled]

8And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

9Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

10As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; --they four also had the face of an eagle.

The angels rank structure is as such: -- seraphim –cherubim—archangels—angels.--FOUR

The FOUR world judgments to come upon the Nations at war are War, Famine, Pestilence, and Earthquakes (Matthew 24:6, 7 and Revelation 6)

The great “World Powers” as revealed to the Prophet Daniel were four in number:

Babylon, Mede -Persia, Greece, and Rome. These are all earthly powers.
