Summary: Ever since the Tower of Babel we wanted glory for ourselves. This lesson will try to help you get the Glory back to Jesus.

Last week I had a problem with my computer. Now most of you know me well enough by now that when I say I have a problem, I HAVE A PROBLEM!!!! I would turn on my computer and it literally sounded like someone was throwing bolts in my computer. So I call up Dell and I am switched to a call center in India.

I gave this young man my identification code for my computer and then he asked me what the problem was. I told him it sounded like “Bolts” were being thrown around inside my computer.” He said “Boats”, I said “Bolts”. He said “”Boats” again. Louder ( I am sorry) a SAY “Bolts” and this went on and on. Then I said “Listen to your phone very carefully”. I turned off the computer and turned it back on then prayed it would happen again. Fortunately it did and all I heard was “Oh My”, I will get you over to our “warranty Desk”. I can blame the people of “Shinar” on this one.

When Noah and his family came out of the ark after the flood God gave them a command.

Genesis 9:1 “Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.”

Fill the earth does not mean to settle in one place but to send people out in all directions to live. But as humans sometimes we either forget a command or change it. We can be really good at thinking “Did God really say”?

Genesis 11:4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”

Now there were a couple things wrong with this. The people were settling in one place and not spreading out as they were told to do by God. Plus God desires for us to make a name for Himself, not to live and make a name for ourselves. In life we sometimes think we can do things that God either does not notice or our hearts can become hardened and we really don’t care what God thinks.

Genesis 11:5-9 “But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth”.

The man from Dell and I were babbling for minutes because of God’s command or lack of obeying God’s command over 4,000 years ago. When God says to do something why don’t we do it?

1. We don’t fear God

2. We are not in “Awe” of God

3. We don’t care what God thinks

4. We are just too busy to think about God

I have seen over the years and through thousands of years in the Bible that we serve a patient loving God. BUT, God has His limits. God may have told you to make up with your family or co worker and you have given Him the stiff arm. God may want you to change jobs and move but you go on like you did not hear Him. God may want a relationship with you but you want to still live a lifestyle that you know is wrong.

I don’t know what you have going on today in your life but the last thing you want is for you to run out of “Get Free Passes”. I can tell you that God has given me many get free passes when I ask for forgiveness but there have been times when I know I am at the end and I better repent in my heart and soul or else. Then when I see Gods love for me the quicker I repent and never get close to the “Get Free Pass”. The last thing we want to do is show up on the Lord’s doorstep being disobedient. How about you right now? What do you need to get right with God or with your neighbor or enemy? Don’t put it off another day or God may call you home. Then it will be too late to make things right with what God has asked you to do. Then PLEASE e mail me how you obeyed God and how He answered your prayer. I know we would all be encouraged by your story.

Be in “Awe” of God. How can we not be when He breathes out stars, holds the oceans in place and a billion other powerful things He does ever second of every day? Pray right now for forgiveness and ask the Lord to restore your heart and to open your eyes to a world that may have been hidden before. Take one step to God and He will take twenty to you. Amen!!

Have a great day
