James 1:22

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

3. There is reward in faithful listening : Reward: Faith (Romans 10:17)

Romans 10:17

So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

B. To the unfaithful, what they have will be taken away:

1. Be attentive and obedient in listening (Luke 8:18)

Luke 8:18

“So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”

2. There are people who don't understand even if they listen. (Isaiah 6:9, Matthew 13:14, Mark 4:12)

Isaiah 6:9

And he said, “Yes, go, and say to this people, ‘Listen carefully, but do not understand. Watch closely, but learn nothing.’

Matthew 13:14

This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah that says, ‘When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend.

Mark 4:12

so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled: ‘When they see what I do, they will learn nothing. When they hear what I say, they will not understand. Otherwise, they will turn to me and be forgiven.’ ”
