Message Point: There is no such thing as “hidden sin”.

Focus Passage: Joshua 7:1-13

Introduction:

The drunken husband snuck up the stairs quietly. He looked in the bathroom mirror and bandaged the bumps and bruises he'd received in a fight earlier that night. He then proceeded to climb into bed, smiling at the thought that he'd pulled one over on his wife. When morning came, he opened his eyes and there stood his wife. "You were drunk last night weren't you!" "No, honey." "Well, if you weren't, then who put all the band-aids on the bathroom mirror?"

I. Sin Affects Others

a. Sin corrupts, and what is done in private has a public effect.

II. Sin will be uncovered

a. Numbers 32:23 reminds us, “be sure your sin will find you out.”

III. Sin has its allure

a. he saw, he coveted, he took

IV. Sin has its consequences

a. It might seem too harsh that his whole family was killed. But we better fear the fact that one man’s sin can have such far reaching consequences.

Invitation: When we learn to see our sin for what it really is – a rejection of God; a turning of our back on His love and the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross – then we start to see it through God’s eyes.
