Summary: One God manefest in three Person's

# 4~ TRINITY BIBLE DOCTRINE 7-28-12

Today we'll continue with our study on Bible Doctrine and talk for a little while about "The Trinity".

* THE TRIUNE GODHEAD PRESENTED IN the SCRIPTURES.

>The FATHER is called Creator

Isa. 64:8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

---

Isa. 44:24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

---------

> The Son is called Creator

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

------

Col. 1:15-17 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

--------

> The Holy SPIRIT IS CALLED Creator

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life

----------------------

>The FATHER Resurrects

1 Thess. 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, --

--------

>The Son Resurrects

John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

-------

>The Holy SPIRIT Resurrects

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

------------------------------------------------------------

The "Trinity" is certainly a major Bible doctrine, for today's text we'll read;

1st JN.5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

-------

There are those that have said that this verse is not found in the better manuscripts, people that would dare make a statement like this are in my opinion, have reached the peak of disrespect to Gods Word, there's not yet been a hat made that will fit their self righteous head.

-------

Romans 16:17-18 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

18For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

These smooth-talking teachers and preachers have ensnared innocent (simple) believers in their doctrinal trap.

> Paul told Titus in;

Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.* ("that contradict,- oppose")

-------

II Timothy 3:13 & 16 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. -- 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

----

II Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables

----------

The Bible is our standard for testing everything else that claims to be true. It is our safeguard against false teaching. = False doctrine.

> Christian doctrine must come from the Bible;

Proverbs 4:1-2 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. 2For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

---------

* And therefore I believe that 1st John 5:7 is one of the best verses in the entire Bible that teaches the Trinity.

1st JN.5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

------

Although the word "Trinity" is not found in Scripture, but "Godhead" is, and it is found three times in Scripture,

Act 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

---

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead;--

-----

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

-----

Another word that Christians have used innumerable times is "rapture" and it's not in the Bible either.

1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

It comes from a Latin word meaning "to be snatched away"

---

And even the word "BIBLE" is not found in the Scriptures but we would never stop using that word. And so the word Trinity is not found in the Scriptures we clearly understand it to mean the Godhead.

The doctrine of the Trinity means that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit consist of three distinct Persons, yet these three are one God.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:--

---------

>The Trinity consists of three Persons, we find that in the first three verses of the Bible, do you remember me telling you when we were in the "numbers meaning" study that when ever we found a reference to "THREE" to look carefully because God is found most of the time.

Genesis 1:1-3 In the beginning God (Father) created the heaven and the earth. 2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit (Holy Spirit) of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3And God said, (WORD) Let there be light: and there was light.

Here is the Trinity in the very beginning.

---

Gen.1:26 notice the three's -- And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: - three times.

-----

Gen.3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, --

-----

Gen.11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language--

------

Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?

------------

In Isaiah 48:16 we have the Son speaking while making reference to the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Come ye near unto me, (SON) hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, (FATHER) and his Spirit, (Holy Spirit) hath sent me. (SON) --notice; it was the Son that was speaking.

----------

Again the SON is speaking while making reference to the FATHER and the HOLY SPIRIT in

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD (Holy Spirit) is upon me; (SON) because the LORD (FATHER) hath anointed me (SON) to preach good tidings unto the meek;--

-------

In Matthew 3:16-17 we see God the Holy Spirit descending on God the Son while God the Father proclaims His pleasure in the Son.

Matthew 3:16-17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. -- The Trinity --

------

2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

------------

The members of the Trinity are distinguished one from another in various passages. In the Old Testament, "LORD" (all capitol-self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah) is distinguished from "Lord" (not capitol letters, such as a person or land lord)

Genesis 19:24 Then the LORD (Jehovah) rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

-------

> The LORD (has a Son:

Psalm 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD (Jehovah) hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

The Holy Spirit begot the Lord Jesus.

Luke 1:35-- The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

---------

Proverbs 30:2-4 Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. 3 I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.

4Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

---------

> The Holy Spirit is distinguished from God the Father.

Psalm 51:10-11 Create in me a clean heart, O God; (the Father) and renew a right spirit within me. 11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.

--------

> God the Son is distinguished from God the Father.

Psalm 45:6-7 Thy throne, O God, (the Father) is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. 7Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee (THE SON) with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

-----------

> In the New Testament, Jesus speaks to the Father about sending a Helper, the Holy Spirit.

This shows that Jesus did not consider Himself to be the Father or the Holy Spirit.

John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

--------

Consider also the other times in the Gospels where Jesus speaks to the Father. Was He speaking to Himself? No. He spoke to another Person in the Trinity--the Father.

-----------

Each member of the Trinity is God.

> The Father is God;

John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

----

Romans 1:7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

-------

1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:

-------

> The Son is God;

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

--------

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

-------

Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever:

---------

> The Holy Spirit is God;

Acts 5:3-4 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

------

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

-----------

> There have been many attempts to try and give illustrations of the Trinity.

The water illustration is one illustration of the Trinity, Liquid, vapor, and ice is forms of water.

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are not forms of God, each of them is God. So while this illustration may give some what of a picture of the Trinity, the picture is not entirely accurate. An infinite God cannot be fully described by a finite illustration.

------

The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God--but there is only one God. That is the biblical doctrine of the Trinity.

Rather than attempting to fully define the Trinity with our finite human minds, we would be better served by focusing on the fact of God's greatness and His infinitely higher nature.

Romans 11:33-34 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! 34For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

---------

There are many folks that wonder how God can be One God and at the same time be three Persons, and that would normally be a reasonable question, but dear heart we're thinking as if God is like us, I'm glad He is not as we are, He's Almighty God.

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

-------

1 Corinthians 8:4---- and that there is none other God but one.

Galatians 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
