Summary: Trusting God for direction and leading when we are not sure of the way.

Breakthrough Anointing

1 Chronicles 14:8-17

David was a man after God's own heart. I like that enduring quality about David. Although he had his faults he still had a heart after God.

In the text we see that the Philistines have received word that David has been anointed King over all Israel-vs. 8,

"8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went out to meet them. 9 Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim;"

However, the Philistines are not pleased about this. And they move quickly to challenge David's anointed leadership and they are out to get him.

Remember, this is the same David who has killed Goliath

Notice, what is said here in verse 8, " they mobilized their forces to capture him."

Why did they want to capture David as opposed to killing him?

3 QUICK OBSERVATIONS

1. They wanted to capture David to undermine his leadership

2. They wanted to capture David to undermine Israel's resolve..

3. They wanted to capture David to undermine God's

name

Hear me this morning - there is nothing more the enemy had rather do than knock off the leader. That is why I covet so strongly your prayers and support.

There is something else I want you to take notice of her this morning. David was "anointed" King over Israel. He wasn't just "chosen" but rather was anointed by God to be the leader of Israel at this historic time.

"THE ANOINTED BREAKTHROUGH"

A. I believe that you are the anointed of God this

morning!

1. God has great things in store for his anointed!

B. From these few verses there are things about the

anointing of God that I want you to understand...to

get in your heart and spirit.

I. THE ANOINTING BRINGS OPPOSITION - VS 8

A. David is the Anointed King of Israel. He is

chosen by God and yet walking in this realm of

anointing brings opposition.

Hear me this morning---the anointing of God upon your life will bring opposition your way! Some think of the anointing in terms of being seen and the spotlight--but hear me--the anointing of God upon your life is a magnetic field for the enemy to come at you

1.David is the anointed by God as the King of Israel and all the news is not sitting well with

the enemy.

2. The Reason is that David is not just anointed as

King but is walking in the anointing.

3. Are you hearing me this morning? There is a

difference.

a. I am not concerned this morning if you have

been anointed (past experience) but are you

walking in the anointing now? (Now Experience)

4. Being in the presence of the anointing doesn't

make you anointed!

a. Being in McDonalds doesn't make you a

hamburger!

b. Being in church doesn't make you anointed

...only the touch of God upon your life

make you anointed as you walk in his ways!

B. It Was This anointing upon David's Life that

brought opposition and it is what will bring it in

your life also.

1. Paul experienced this opposition time after

time in his ministry. In 1 Thes 2:18 18 For we wanted

to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan

blocked our way.

2. Paul says satan "prevented us" He encountered

opposition from the enemy that prevented him

from accomplishing things he had set out to do.

3. The anointing of God upon your life will create

opposition in your life from the enemy. EXPECT IT!!

C. YET, THE SAME ANOINTING UPON YOUR LIFE IS

WHAT WILL CAUSE YOU TO RISE ABOVE THE

ADVANCES OF THE ENEMY AND BE

VICTORIOUS!

1. As God's anointed you are empowered to do

mighty exploits for God.

Jesus Said, 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12

2. The Anointing may bring great opposition but it

will also bring about great exploits for God if you

will walk in it.

II. The Anointing Brings Direction vs. 10-11

10 so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?”

The LORD answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.”

11 So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.

It is interesting to see here what David did in the face of opposition - he went to the source of the anointing!

David "asked God". He went to God! What a novel idea

A. David Remembered his source. He called upon

God with very specific questions. "Should I go

out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them

over to me?"

1. David didn't want to miss God!.

2. The Problem with most is that they want God

to bless their pre-determined plans.

Key Thought: David did not go to God

with plans. He went to God for plans

Now notice how else the anointing of

God worked in David's Life

B. Notice Where the Philistines attacked. They

arrived at the Valley of Rephaim and raid it. vs 11

then the Philistines went and made a raid on the Valley of

Rephain.

1. When David called upon God and got the okay

to attack when did he attack the Philistines at?

They went to Baal-Perazim and defeated the

Philistines there- vs.11 So they went up to Baal

Perazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said,

"God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a

breakthrough of water." Therefore they called the name of

that place Baal Perazim.

2. The enemy raided at one place but God sent

David to another place to defeat them.

a. By the time David gets word of the attack and

raid at Rephaim the enemy has already moved. God

knew where they were going next and that is

where God sent them

When you walk in the anointing God directs you

That's why David later could write in Psalms 37:23

"The Steps of the Godly(rightoul) are directed by the Lord"

2. God delights in every detail of our lives.

a. This was a detail that meant a lot to David. God

wasn't sending him on a wild goose chase. God

sent David exactly where he needed to be

C. The Anointing of God upon your Life will give you

direction! HEAR ME THIS MORNING!!

The Anointing of God is given by God and

God leads and directs his Anointed

B. Do you need greater direction in your life this

morning? Then may I submit to you that you

need a greater anointing of God in your life!

1. The Enemy attacked at Rephaim but they

were defeated at Baal-Perazim.

Key Thought--God is not just leading you into the battle but he is leading you to a place of victory!... through his anointing!!

III. The Anointing Brings Victory- VS 11-12

11 So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.[a] 12 The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, and David gave orders to burn them in the fire.

A. David took him men under the anointed

direction of God to Baal-perazim and there

defeated the Philistines.

1. After that great victory David exclaims "God

has done it" He used me to burst through my enemies like

a raging flood" That is why he named the place

Baal-perazim which means "The Lord who

bursts through"

a. The anointing of God burst him through to

Victory

b. Sometimes your victory comes by bursting

through the opposition of the enemy like a

flood.

B. After that great victory the Philistines fled and

left their idols behind and David had them

burned and destroyed.

1. Hear me this morning--God wants to give you a

"burst-through" anointing! and victory!!

To Burst through the OPPOSITION of the ENEMY in your life, in your home, in your family, in your finances, in your work place, in your witnessing.

"God Give Us A Break-Through Anointing!!"

C. Notice What Happens Next. The Philistines haven't quite learned their lesson because they go back and raid the valley again

So God gives David a new set of Instructions vs 14-16

14 so David inquired of God again, and God answered him, “Do not go directly after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the poplar trees. 15 As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move out to battle, because that will mean God has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” 16 So David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army, all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.

1. Hear me. The way the anointing beings you victory

today may not be the way the anointing bring you

victory tomorrow

a. God is a God of variety and the anointing gave

David a strategy for victory but it is not the same

for every battle

b. God will do what is necessary to ensure your

victory. And if that means changing the strategy

then that is what He will do

2. If David had gone in and attacked like he did the

last time the Philistines would have been prepared

and expecting it.

a. But this time God changed the strategy and

took them in the back way the they were

defeated. f

b. The anointing of God will lead you into victory

but you must, like David, be attuned to God to

hear Him and receive direction from Him

Are You ready for some victories in your walk with

God? What you need is a fresh touch of God's

anointing in your life.
