Message Point: Our faith in Jesus will save us from our sins, but not necessarily our trials.
Focus Passage: Hebrews 11:1-40
Supplemental Passage: And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6 NASB)
Introduction: Ear tickling preachers today talk about how God wants you to be happy and healthy, and that if you endure any kind of sickness or trials, your faith isn’t strong enough. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is our strength through our faith in Jesus that gets us through those difficult times.
I. Faith for Salvation
a. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9 NASB)
b. "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12 NASB)
II. Faith for Living
a. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:17 NASB)
b. "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. (Galatians 2:20 NASB)
III. Faith for Endurance
a. "But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. (Matthew 24:13 NASB)
b. Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. (James 1:2-3 NASB)
