I. EXORDIUM:

Are we a show off? Do we live by faith and yet wanted others to live by sight?

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To prove that living by faith will benefit us more and especially if we share our faith.

IV. TEXT:

2 Chronicles 32:24-26 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill. He prayed to the Lord, who healed him and gave him a miraculous sign.

But Hezekiah did not respond appropriately to the kindness shown him, and he became proud. So the Lord’s anger came against him and against Judah and Jerusalem.

Then Hezekiah humbled himself and repented of his pride, as did the people of Jerusalem. So the Lord’s anger did not fall on them during Hezekiah’s lifetime.

V. THESIS:

We live by faith and not by sight and let others do it as well.

Romans 1:17 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

2 Corinthians 5:7 (New Revised Standard Version)

for we walk by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (New International Version)

We live by faith, not by sight.

VI. TITLE:

Hezekiah Cause Of Fall

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Distinctive Features: Spiritual element in the history is more emphasized than in Kings.

B. Contents: Unfolds the reign of the son of David and of the family of David.

C. Spiritual message: Power of prayer to give success and victory

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. He asked for a sign - signs are for unbelievers.

"He prayed to the Lord, who healed him and gave him a miraculous sign. "

1. Isn't it enough for King Hezekiah to be convinced that GOD said he will be healed, is not GOD's Words trustworthy? or reliable enough? that there's a need for GOD to convince Him. GOD is not pleased with anyone approaching him in unbelief or much worse, anyone approaching him wanting him to convince him more of his Presence. Anyone approaching GOD must approach Him in faith, believing already that GOD exists and that GOD is a rewarder of those who seek for Him with sincerity. Asking for a sign will only make you appear as hypocrites, because you're testing GOD. It's evil and adulterous for a mere creature to test his Creator, it's like humans testing GOD, not the other way around. It's proper for GOD to test his creations, creatures, that's us and not the other way around. So don't complain if we're under trials, rejoice because GOD counted us worthy. It's devilish to test GOD, see in the fasting of our LORD JESUS, Satan came testing Him, acting as GOD.

"What sign will the Lord give to prove that he will heal me"

Hebrews 11:6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

2 Kings 20:8 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Meanwhile, Hezekiah had said to Isaiah, “What sign will the Lord give to prove that he will heal me and that I will go to the Temple of the Lord three days from now?”

Matthew 12:38-39 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

One day some teachers of religious law and Pharisees came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, we want you to show us a miraculous sign to prove your authority.”

But Jesus replied, “Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign; but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.

Luke 11:16 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Others, trying to test Jesus, demanded that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.

John 4:48 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Jesus asked, “Will you never believe in me unless you see miraculous signs and wonders?”

1 Corinthians 1:22 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.

1 Corinthians 14:22 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers.

Deuteronomy 6:16 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

You must not test the Lord your God as you did when you complained at Massah.

Luke 4:12 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’”

1 Chronicles 29:17 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously.

Psalms 26:2 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart.

B. Ostentation - fond of show/vain display.

2 Kings 20:13 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Hezekiah received the Babylonian envoys and showed them everything in his treasure-houses—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the aromatic oils. He also took them to see his armory and showed them everything in his royal treasuries! There was nothing in his palace or kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.

And since GOD wants us to live by faith and not by sight, we too need to acknowledge GOD by saying "PRAISE THE LORD" is enough to say to unbelievers, testifying that all we have came from GOD and not of us, no need to display them before unbelievers and this is ostentation. GOD wants us to impart our faith not our properties where they can see, they need to see our faith, the invisible things which are eternal. You will only appear as hypocrites if you display your wealth before men. We are to keep secret the following in our lives: (a) our givings, (b) our prayers, (c) our fastings and (d) everything we do.

Luke 20:46 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“Beware of these teachers of religious law! For they like to parade around in flowing robes and love to receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces. And how they love the seats of honor in the synagogues and the head table at banquets.

Matthew 6:2 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.

Matthew 6:5 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.

Matthew 6:16 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get.

Matthew 23:5 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“Everything they do is for show. On their arms they wear extra wide prayer boxes with Scripture verses inside, and they wear robes with extra long tassels.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (Amplified Bible)

Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will].

Philippians 4:6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Ephesians 5:15 (Phillips NT Bible)

Live life, then, with a due sense of responsibility, not as men who do not know the meaning and purpose of life but as those who do. Make the best use of your time, despite all the difficulties of these days. Don't be vague but firmly grasp what you know to be the will of God. Don't get your stimulus from wine (for there is always the danger of excessive drinking), but let the Spirit stimulate your souls. Express your joy in singing among yourselves psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making music in your hearts for the ears of God! Thank God at all times for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. And "fit in with" each other, because of your common reverence for Christ.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Let GOD's Words convince you by faith not by sight, acknowledge GOD in everything.
