“The Anointing”

By

Pastor M.L. Maughmer, Jr.

The Anointing does not come in front of the masses, but is placed upon you in the secret closet. The Anointing is the ultimate answer to countless prayers. The Anointing is the exaltation of the Holy Ghost upon those that were abased.

The Anointing destroys yokes, breaks chains, impregnates, rejuvenates, separates, and consecrates. The Anointing soothes, caresses, and eases pain away. The Anointing supports, illuminates, enriches, and empowers. The Anointing will make you weep like a child, yet cause you to live like a giant.

The Anointing is not a practiced talent, nor a gift of intelligence. It is not predicated on social status, economical stability, or genealogical pedigree. No eloquence can woo it, no market can sell, no manufacture can produce it, and no preacher can bestow it. The Anointing is a gift of God. It is the knighthood given to those that are willing to stand on the battlefield and hold up the blood stained banner for the Lord.

Eloquence is impressive, prestige is persuasive, and thought ignites inspiration, but it is only the Anointing that is able to break the yoke of sin, to win the harden heart to God, and to set at liberty those that are bruised.

The Anointing is the distinguishing characteristic that separates the true unadulterated gospel and the preacher/pastor from all other forms of perpetrated truth.

The Anointing is given solely by the hands of God to empower you to effectively minister to the whole man, the mind, body, and soul. The Anointing empowers you to be able to lead people from the wilderness of sin into the heavenly promise land.

The Anointing is not an unconditional gift, but is contingent upon obedience to God. It is perpetuated by the very process in which it was obtained, through countless prayers in the secret closets of your life. It is motivated by the desire not to impress man, but to embrace God.

The Anointing is moving from the level of expecting God to the realm of experiencing God. The Anointing is God's favor upon those that are willing to forsake the glamour and fame of the world and with tireless adoration seek the face of God.

The Anointing.

Last month was Black History Month, the shortest and coldest month of the year, yet it is the time we commemorate the memories, achievements, and history of the African American People. Although it is supposed to be a National Recognition of the struggles and achievements of the Black people, amazingly there still is a resilient emphasis to slavery that dominates the minds of a lot of people and most news stories and media outlets. With all the accomplishments and success that the United States has been blessed with and in this era of a 2nd term black president, the media insists on instigating and stirring up resentment against the descendants of former slaves. Although slavery has been abolished the effects it has on the minds of people has been devastating and will be a devastating impression for many years to come.

I know I am not the only one that thinks this way, but when I think about slavery and slaves all I can imagine is pictures of black people most of them naked and bound with chains around their legs and necks with their hands either tied or chained together. They are humiliated, scared, beaten, abused, mistreated, and many are killed. They don’t understand exactly what is going, they have no idea of why this is happening, they don’t know where they are going, and they have no clue as to what is happening to their families all they know is that their freedom has been taken away and now they find themselves chained and bound.

Understand - Slavery is an institution based upon dominance and submission, whereby one person owns another and can demand, from that person, labor or whatever other services they desire, simply because they have obtained the authority and power to do so – not the right – but the power.

WATCH THIS:- slavery has been called by many names — among them are bondage, servitude, captivity, oppression, burden, serfdom, weight, conquest and suppression.

We have all been slaves to something, in varying degrees and in some ways still are. We are "slaves" to governments, to laws, taxes, and to employers, now understand I am not saying we are in slavery, but we are all subject to these entities in some form or fashion and must abide by the rules established therefore. However, we should not still be slaves to sin – I’ll preach that in a minute.

Freedom:- liberty, independence, to be free, noninterference, immunity, exemption, emancipation, to be released, uncaught, unconstrained, unbuttoned, unconfined, unrestrained, unchecked, unprevented, unhindered, unobstructed, unbound, uncontrolled, unshackled, unfettered, unbridled, unmuzzled, unrestricted, unlimited, unforced, uncompelled, and UNCHAINED.

HISTORY:- Let me give a quick history lesson. Slavery reaches back to before recorded history, and certainly back to Nimrod's time and in the building of the Tower of Babel Genesis 10.

THIS IS INTERESTING:- During the course of history, slaves were acquired in seven different ways.

The first was by capture. Prisoners of war were commonly reduced to slavery when captured.

The second way is by purchase. Slaves were sold among all kinds of other merchandise and from country to country.

The third way is by birth. Children born in the house of slave parents became "house-born slaves".

The fourth way is restitution. If a thief could not make restitution to pay his fines and damages, funds towards this could be raised by selling him as a slave; and this was a very common way of ending up in slavery.

The fifth way is similar by default on debts. Debtors, who went bankrupt, were often forced to sell their children as slaves or the children would be confiscated as slaves by the creditor.

The sixth way that people end up in slavery is by self-sale. That is, selling oneself voluntarily into slavery, this is the way people today end up as spiritual slaves.

The seventh way is by abduction, to steal a person and then to reduce that kidnapped person to slavery – we hear stories of people who have been abducted and held as sex slaves or sold into sex slavery – we call it human trafficking today.

According to Josephus—97,000 Jews were enslaved as a result of the crushing of the Jewish rebellion by Vespasian and Titus between 66 A.D. and 70 A.D. If you will recall, that is around the time of the destruction of the temple. In an earlier revolt, 100,000 Jews were enslaved.

Through the years the Roman Catholic Church, did not oppose the institution of slavery. However, a change in economic life set in and resulted in the gradual disappearance of agricultural slaves. And these agricultural slaves moved from slavery into what actually later became serfdom. Although they were given their "freedom," they were still slaves to the land and still owed debt on the land. Therefore, whoever owned that land kept them, for all practical purposes, as slaves.

The semi-freedom of serfdom was the dominant form of slavery in the Middle Ages, although domestic slavery did not disappear. The Catholic Church began to encourage emancipation of slaves, while ignoring the fact that many slaves were attached to church officials and church property.

Islam, like Catholicism, accepted slavery; and it became a standard institution in Muslim lands. One form of Muslim slavery was in the eunuch guardians of the harems. Eunuchs had been widely known in Grecian, Roman, and especially Byzantine times. But it was among the Muslims and in East Asia that they were to survive the longest. WATCH THIS - The Muslim would capture Christians, take the young boys castrate them and train them to be superior fighters– then use them to fight and capture Christians to continue the cycle. Also they were extremely profitable in the African slave trade sending approximately 11 to 15 million African captives to America.

A revolution in the institution of slavery came in the 15th and 16th centuries. The exploration of the African coasts by Portuguese navigators resulted in the exploitation of the African as slaves. And for nearly five centuries, the preying and plundering of slave raiders along the coasts of Africa were a lucrative and important business—conducted with horrendous brutality.

African slaves were introduced to the British settlements on the Atlantic coast with the arrival of the first shipload of chained slaves in Virginia in 1619. And there begins our history of slave use in this country. They were used for the raising of staple crops (such as coffee, tobacco, sugar, rice, and later cotton); and the plantation economy made the importance of slaves, and the importation of slaves from Africa, particularly valuable in the Southern colonies of the United States.

Although efforts to end voluntary servitude continued throughout the last half of the 1900's, forms of severe slavery still persist today.

With this brief history, as you can see, physical slavery has always been in effect; however, there are other things than chains, shackles and bars that many people are imprisoned right now. There are things that chain us spiritually and mentally and prevent us from doing the will of God in our lives. Sure you may be free from physical bars and chains, but you are still held captive because you are still connected to emotional emasculation, some are spiritually sick, mentally messed up, physically plundered, you are being held in bondage by the chains of depression, drugs, alcohol, sexual perversions, lust, and hatred.

You are constantly being whipped and beaten by demonic slave-masters that are trying to destroy your value. They are determined to have your change your name trying to strip you of your identity. Hold you in bondage spiritually. They constantly are abusing you making you feel that you are nothing. They won’t let you out of the field of sin. They have you bound unable to break free and unless you come out from that bondage what has you bound spiritually it will cause you to spend eternity in hell.

So on today I am not preaching to you, but I am preaching to that demon that has been assigned as your slave-master and I come to make an Emancipation Proclamation - the Bible says John 8:36 “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed”.

TODAY YOU CAN BE UNCHAINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to spend some time talking about the things that chain us and how we can break free from those things by the unchained power of God.

Isaiah 10:27 “And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing”.

Anointing can destroy the yoke. Yoke is a wooden beam placed on the neck of the bulls and Oxen to make them draw carts or plough the fields. The beam is called the Yoke. When the beam is placed on the neck of the bullocks and bound, they become slaves and cannot run freely on their own. Thus the animal bound to the yoke is enslaved. This device was also used when they captured slaves because the weight of it made it impossible for them to run or even put up a fight. But the anointing destroys the yoke.

Sin is the chain/yoke Satan places on man today that enslaves him and causes him to be bound. There are many people who cry, I am unable to forsake some sins in my life. They say I want to stop this drinking habit. I try, I pray, but I am not able to leave it alone, the memories keep drawing me. Satan has placed the chain of alcohol dependence on them and has enslaved them in their minds. I think about the story of an Elephant trainer, they take and Elephant and place a chain around his leg and the other end to a stake in the ground, the Elephant tries to pull but the chain hurts him so he becomes conditioned to only being able to go so far, when they take the chain off the Elephant he refuses to make a run for it because he remembers what he felt when the chain was around his leg, although he is free in his mind the memory is there and that is what has him bound. That’s why the Bible say be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Some say I want to stop whoremonging but I just can’t seem to stop Satan has placed the chain of lust on them and enslaved them. He knows that know whoremonger has no inheritance in the Kingdom. They are chained.

Someone may say I want to come to Sunday school but I just can’t get up that early in the morning, HOW IS THAT SIN PASTOR, that’s a chain of laziness that has you bound and God doesn’t use lazy people because laziness is a sin.

Some say I can’t understand why I have these unnatural feelings, I know it’s wrong but I just can’t seem to do anything about it. WATCH THIS:- In slavery times when a slave tried to run away and was caught they would do something to keep them from running away and lower their value. Remember in Roots when Kunta Kentay ran away they cut his foot off. When a woman ran away and was captured they would do something to them that made them an abomination and lower their value. They would take a branding iron in the shape of the letter R and brand that R into their face it would leave a mark that was abhorrent to look at and her value then was only to her slave master because no-one wanted to purchase a slave that was marked as a runaway. That unnatural attraction is a chain that needs to be broken.

Another chain that Satan puts on people is sickness. When Jesus was preaching in a synagogue, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years (chain) and was bowed together and could in no wise lift her up. WATCH THIS – she was chained with a condition - she was bowed, she was not in pain. Her hunchback was her chain. She couldn’t look up, her vision was focused on the ground. When I was in the Army one of the sayings we marched to said ain’t no since of looking down ain’t no discharge on the ground. Discharge was your release from the Army. This woman was chained to constantly looking down but her release wasn’t on the ground. Jesus saw her and said, "Ought not this being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has bound to these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on Sabbath day?" Lk.13:16. Satan had bowed her with a chain of infirmity for 18 years. Jesus healed her miraculously. How long are you going to be bound.

Another time, "As they went out, behold they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. And when the devil was cast out the dumb spake." Matt.9:32,33. Jesus rebuked the devil and cast it out . Once the devil was cast out, the dumb man spake. "Then was brought unto him, one possessed with a devil, blind and dumb: and he healed him, in so much that the blind and dumb both spake and saw." Matt.12:22. Jesus is the chain-breaker.

See, It was Satan who blinded him. It was Satan who made him dumb, If so, it was a chain of Satan placed on him. He lost his sight. He could not speak . Satan had placed this chain of blind and dumb sickness on the man. But Jesus destroyed this yoke of Satan on people who came to Jesus, How was it possible? It was the mighty anointing on him.

Many people complain, "I have consulted many doctors, undergone various tests and consumed many medicines, but no cure. The doctors say I have no disease in my body. This is nothing but the chain of Satan. When you say I’m gonna live for Christ, the devil will place on you chains of infirmities and sickness, trying to cause you to give up and throw in the towel.

But as soon as the anointing is poured on you, you will be healed.

The Bible said it’s the anointing that destroys the yoke/chains.

When the Holy Spirit comes this yoke/chain of sickness is broken and we have great deliverance from that disease. The body is revived. The anointing we received revives, strengthens and rejuvenates the body.

When the power of the anointing descends on you, all the chains of bondage like worries, pains, infirmities, tumors, heart problems, and diseases are destroyed. The spirit of the Lord revives our bodies breaking the chains of sin and sickness.

Only this anointing destroys the yoke. When you are anointed your heart will over flow with joy and you will be gladdened and will be bubbling. Even in a severe crisis, if you are filled with the Holy Spirit that anointing will keep you happy and all fears will flee. God wants to anoint you. Jesus the anointed one has come near you for this. The Lord will grant a new anointing every day of your life.

CLOSING:- The devil may have you bound, chained with depression, chained with lust, chained with unnatural affection, chained by drug or alcohol, chained in your mind, chained in your finances, chained in laziness, chained with discouragement.

But I just want you to know that it’s the anointing that will destroy the chains in your life.

Stop sitting there bound, beat up, abused, mistreated, hopeless, lost, undecided, confused, sick, oppressed, depressed, lonely, emasculated.

Say anointing fall on me.

Shackles on my feet won’t allow me to dance – anointing fall on me.

I feel like I’m gonna loose my mind – anointing fall on me.

I can’t praise you bound in these chains – anointing fall on me.

Lord I need you to set me free for whom the Son has set free is Free indeed.

I want to be unchained - so anointing fall on me.
