VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Faith comes

"So faith comes"

The word "faith" came from the Greek word:"pistis" meaning assurance, belief, believe, especially "reliance upon CHRIST for salvation"

1. What is faith?

Hebrews 11:1 (Phillips NT Bible)

Now faith means putting our full confidence in the things we hope for, it means being certain of things we cannot see. It was this kind of faith that won their reputation for the saints of old. And it is after all only by faith that our minds accept as fact that the whole scheme of time and space was created by God's command - that the world which we can see has come into being through principles which are invisible.

Hebrews 11:1 (Amplified Bible)

NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

a. Full confidence (confirmation, title deed) in things we hope for

b. Certain (proof of things + conviction of their reality) of things we cannot see.

The world says "to see is to believe", but Hebrews 11:1 says "believe and you'll see"

c. Faith is what we need to please GOD.

Hebrews 11:6 (Phillips NT Bible)

And without faith it is impossible to please him. The man who approaches God must have faith in two things, first that God exists and secondly that it is worth a man's while to try to find God.

Hebrews 11:6 (Amplified Bible)

But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].

We approach GOD in faith.

Two things we need to have faith for:

(1) GOD exists

(2) GOD is the Rewarder of those who seek Him

Deuteronomy 16:16 (Amplified Bible)

Three times a year shall all your males appear before the Lord your God in the place which He chooses: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, at the Feast of Weeks, and at the Feast of Tabernacles or Booths. They shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed:

"They shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed"

In those Old Testament times, leaders need to appear before the King of kings and they can't appear before GOD empty-handed. We bring faith with us in our hands. Every person has the capacity to have faith, to believe and he needs to bring that with him when he appear, commune or meet before GOD.

B. Hearing the message

"from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News"

1. Hearing came from the Greek word:"akoe" meaning "hearing"

Matthew 13:11 (Phillips NT Bible)

"Because you have been given the chance to understand the secrets of the kingdom of Heaven," replied Jesus, "but they have not. For when a man has something, more is given to him till he has plenty. But if he has nothing even his nothing will be taken away from him. This is why I speak to them in these parables; because they go through life with their eyes open, but see nothing, and with their ears open, but understand nothing of what they hear. They are the living fulfilment of Isaiah's prophecy which says: 'Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, and seeing you will see and not perceive; for the heart of this people has grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their heart and turn, so that I should heal them'.

Matthew 13:13 (Amplified Bible)

This is the reason that I speak to them in parables: because having the power of seeing, they do not see; and having the power of hearing, they do not hear, nor do they grasp and understand.

2. Hearing then uses our spiritual ears to hear spiritual truths from GOD. We need to "turn on" our spiritual ears to accept and receive from the spiritual GOD.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God—which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.

Galatians 3:5 (Amplified Bible)

Then does He Who supplies you with His marvelous [Holy] Spirit and works powerfully and miraculously among you do so on [the grounds of your doing] what the Law demands, or because of your believing in and adhering to and trusting in and relying on the message that you heard?

CHRIST ministered spiritual things (Word of GOD) with Holy Spirit.

3. This world can't receive from GOD because:

a. They live by physical eyes/ears not by faith:

Matthew 13:14 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah that says, ‘When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend.

Romans 1:17 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

2 Corinthians 5:7 (New International Version)

We live by faith, not by sight.

b. They will hear (accept) make believe stories not the Word.

2 Timothy 4:4 (New International Version)

They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Illustration:

Every holiday is to remind and lead us to CHRIST/GOD.

Holy Week - penitence/people crucified in the cross ( Pampanga incident ) instead of finished work of CHRIST on the Cross of Calvary

Easter - easter bunny instead of resurrection of CHRIST.

CHRISTmas - idols of woman carrying a baby/santa claus instead of CHRIST born to save this world.

They redirect everything to myths (man-made stories) instead of the TRUTH (John 14:6)

John 14:6 (Amplified Bible)

Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.

c. They don't mix with faith whatever Word they hear

Hebrews 4:2 (Amplified Bible)

For indeed we have had the glad tidings [Gospel of God] proclaimed to us just as truly as they [the Israelites of old did when the good news of deliverance from bondage came to them]; but the message they heard did not benefit them, because it was not mixed with faith (with the leaning of the entire personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) by those who heard it; neither were they united in faith with the ones [Joshua and Caleb] who heard (did believe).

Non-spiritual man or unbelievers or faithless people can't hear GOD or can't learn spiritual things because they need to hear GOD spiritually thru CHRIST.

John 4:24 (Amplified Bible)

God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).

spiritual man - non-carnal, supernatural, regenerate

1 Corinthians 2:15 (Amplified Bible)

But the spiritual man tries all things [he examines, investigates, inquires into, questions, and discerns all things], yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one [he can read the meaning of everything, but no one can properly discern or appraise or get an insight into him].

C. Word of CHRIST

"Good News about Christ"

"Word" came from the Greek word: "rhema" meaning utterance (individually, collectively or specifically), a matter or topic (especially of narration, command)

"Word" means Divine instruction from GOD that is CHRIST.

The Word can be spiritual instruction from Spiritual GOD telling us to do spiritual things for him. GOD can only connect with a spiritual man.

Hebrews 11:3 (Amplified Bible)

By faith we understand that the world's [during the successive ages] were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the Word of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible.

Ephesians 5:26 (Amplified Bible)

So that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word,

1 Peter 1:25 (Amplified Bible)

But the Word of the Lord (divine instruction, the Gospel) endures forever. And this Word is the good news which was preached to you.

IX. CONCLUSION:

There is no other WORD we need to "hear" but GOD's WORD - the Living CHRIST and our faith will start to grow.

1 Peter 2:1-3 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment,

now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.
