Verse 7-Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.”
Philip looked at the crowd and try to figure out how to solve the problem.
He was trying to find a course out of the crisis!
But when he looked at the crisis, he lost sight of the Christ!!
I am afraid we do you too! “Lord, help us not to see the crisis but to see the Christ in the Crisis!”
Verse 8-9-One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,
“There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?”
John 1:40-42-One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.
Andrew found John, found Peter, found the lad, what does that tell us about Andrew?
He is a doer, he is not just a persons who sit around and lets things happen to him, he is a person who makes things happen!
But in this circumstance even Andrew can’t see a solution to this problem!
What Are They Among So Many-He despised the small things!
In the hands of a lad it was only lunch but in the hands of the Lord I it could not only feed the crowd but have food left over.
God always uses small things, thing that seem insignificant!
Exodus 2:5-6-Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”
At the right time the baby cried, it was the tears of the baby that moved Pharaoh’s daughter with compassion.
If had cried early someone else may have found and they would have killed him.
It was the rod of Moses that God used to show that God was with Moses.
Exodus 7:8-10-Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’” So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
A sling in the hand of David
1 Samuel 17:40-51-Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine. So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him. And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking. So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!” Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.” So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
God can take rod or sling and use it mightily!
Luke 22:60-62-But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
So Peter went out and wept bitterly.
God took a small thing like a rooster crowing, to have Peter recognize his sin.
God may take a small thing like sermon, to change a life!
God may take a small thing like our testimony, to change a life!
God may take a small thing like a song, and change a heart!
God may take a small thing like our offering and change the world!
God took a small thing like 11 men, no scholars, not educated, just plain everyday working men and turned the world upside down!!!
God may take a small thing like my life or your life and use it to touch lives and change lives for His glory!
What can God do with a little in the hands? A lot!!!
One mosquito can drive you nuts! If one mosquito can aggravate us that much, just think what one Christian on fire for the Lord can do to the devil!
