E. Main theme: encounter with JESUS CHRIST demands a response

G. Key verse:

John 20:31 (Amplified Bible)

But these are written (recorded) in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Anointed One), the Son of God, and that through believing and cleaving to and trusting and relying upon Him you may have life through (in) His name [through Who He is].

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. CHRIST reminder her not to lead Him

"Jesus said to her, [Dear] woman, what is that to you and to Me? [What do we have in common? Leave it to Me.]"

1. His mother and brother is outside

Matthew 12:47-50 (Amplified Bible)

Someone said to Him, Listen! Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak to You.

But He replied to the man who told Him, Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?

And stretching out His hand toward [not only the twelve disciples but all] His adherents, He said, Here are My mother and My brothers.

For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother!

I'm pretty sure if we're gonna do this thing to our mother, it will gonna irritate her so much. Imagine, not to claim her as your mother and claim those who does GOD's will is your mother, it's like adding insult to injury, but the LORD JESUS CHRIST is pointing some truths in these, that if you're an obedient disciple of Him, you will be rewarded and given a title brother, sister or mother. What a Reward Indeed!

2. Honor your father and mother.

Exodus 20:12 (Amplified Bible)

Regard (treat with honor, due obedience, and courtesy) your father and mother, that your days may be long in the land the Lord your God gives you.

The issue is not if JESUS honored His mother or not but the issue is who leads whom? GOD leads His people, the Creator leads His creatures. It's always been like that, now a woman from the seed of Eve, wants to lead CHRIST and tell Him exactly what to do? Some of us are like that, unfortunately, we tell GOD how to answer our prayers and how we like it, we could be contented and happy if we could only mention these things that we need and let Him decide how to accomplish and how to deliver it to us.

3. CHRIST called Mary His mother

It's not an issue of title, CHRIST clearly called His mother Mother but this time, it was special, the Saviour leads His people.

John 19:27 (Amplified Bible)

Then He said to the disciple, See, [here is] your mother! And from that hour, the disciple took her into his own [keeping, own home].

4. Eve was deceived when she tried to lead her husband, Adam.

2 Corinthians 11:3 (Amplified Bible)

But [now] I am fearful, lest that even as the serpent beguiled Eve by his cunning, so your minds may be corrupted and seduced from wholehearted and sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

Eve tried to carry a conversation with the devil, even when she's absent when GOD commanded what to do with the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Eve was not yet even created when the commanded came out from GOD but she tried to pretend she's wise and thinking she could talk her way out with the devil, but was deceived. That's why wives should learn not to talk to strangers and start to call her husband and let them do the talking for her. And every wives, say "Amen!"

Genesis 2:16-18 (Amplified Bible)

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

Now the Lord God said, It is not good (sufficient, satisfactory) that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper meet (suitable, adapted, complementary) for him.

Genesis 3:1-2 (Amplified Bible)

NOW THE serpent was more subtle and crafty than any living creature of the field which the Lord God had made. And he [Satan] said to the woman, Can it really be that God has said, You shall not eat from every tree of the garden?

And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit from the trees of the garden,

5. When GOD speaks, He speaks to the man, when the devil speaks, he speaks to the woman.

GOD speaking: (before Eve was created)

Genesis 2:16 (Amplified Bible)

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;

GOD speaking: (after downfall of man and Eve was already created)

Genesis 3:9 (Amplified Bible)

But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you?

snake speaking to Eve, not to Adam when he fully know the responsibility of the relationship rests on the man and not on the woman:

Genesis 3:4 (Amplified Bible)

But the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die,

Genesis 3:2 (Amplified Bible)

And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit from the trees of the garden,

devil knows the strength of the chain is based on the weakest link not the strongest link, he can't talk straight way to Adam, for He knew He was stronger than Eve and would quickly rebuke the snake. devil knows the weakest link is the woman in a marriage.

1 Peter 3:7 (Amplified Bible)

In the same way you married men should live considerately with [your wives], with an intelligent recognition [of the marriage relation], honoring the woman as [physically] the weaker, but [realizing that you] are joint heirs of the grace (God’s unmerited favor) of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered and cut off. [Otherwise you cannot pray effectively.]

B. His time has not yet come

"My time (hour to act) has not yet come."

1. Time for a miracle, time for Him as the Messiah to be revealed.

John 17:1 (Amplified Bible)

WHEN JESUS had spoken these things, He lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour has come. Glorify and exalt and honor and magnify Your Son, so that Your Son may glorify and extol and honor and magnify You.

GOD, in His Infinite wisdom, wants all men to realize by themselves that out of love, not of miracles they are to be motivated and convinced why GOD wants to save men from their sin.

But after ascension, PRAISE BE TO our GOD, the FATHER, because anytime, preferably NOW is the time for our salvation.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (Amplified Bible)

For He says, In the time of favor (of an assured welcome) I have listened to and heeded your call, and I have helped you on the day of deliverance (the day of salvation). Behold, now is truly the time for a gracious welcome and acceptance [of you from God]; behold, now is the day of salvation!

C. Her mother quickly changed her mind

"His mother said to the servants, Whatever He says to you, do it. "

Not whatever I say to you (as her mother), but what He says to you, do it. Mary quickly changed her mind, we see quick obedience in action, receives quick blessings or quick rewards. The water was turned into wine, rewarded to the people at the weddint, but to His disciples (including His mother Mary), the reward of faith even before the crucifixion took place. Strangers around will be rewarded as well as long as they surround you. What blessings of quick obedience. But those who obey are surpassed by quick obeyers.

John 2:11 (Amplified Bible)

This, the first of His signs (miracles, wonderworks), Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory [by it He displayed His greatness and His power openly], and His disciples believed in Him [adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Him].

Mary's quick obedience can be seen in other situations.

Luke 1:30 (Amplified Bible)

And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace (free, spontaneous, absolute favor and loving-kindness) with God.

Luke 1:34 (Amplified Bible)

And Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I have no [intimacy with any man as a] husband?

Luke 1:38 (Amplified Bible)

Then Mary said, Behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be done to me according to what you have said. And the angel left her.

Hebrews 5:8-9 (Amplified Bible)

Although He was a Son, He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered

And, [His completed experience] making Him perfectly [equipped], He became the Author and Source of eternal salvation to all those who give heed and obey Him,

Titus 3:1 (Amplified Bible)

REMIND PEOPLE to be submissive to [their] magistrates and authorities, to be obedient, to be prepared and willing to do any upright and honorable work,

Example of quick obedience:

Abraham

Genesis 22:2-3 (Amplified Bible)

[God] said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah; and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I will tell you.

So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and his son Isaac; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and then began the trip to the place of which God had told him.

Quick obedience for us:

James 1:22 (Amplified Bible)

But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth].

James 1:25 (Amplified Bible)

But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the [law] of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience).

IX. CONCLUSION:

Quick to obey, quick to be blessed.
