Rediscovering Biblical Womanhood Feb. 10, 2013

A Who can find a virtuous woman?

1 The most valuable stone in the Mid East is an oriental Ruby & Solomon estimated the worth / value of a special woman to be of much greater worth than rubies!

a How easy to find rubies? There are rare!

b How easy to find a virtuous woman? Hard!

2 We live in a time of feminism, women’s movement (many of it’s achievement are productive, profitable, good)

a Extremists of feminism have left womanhood to be distorted, confused.

b Every wife will either build the home or tear it down.

1 The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish tears it down with her own hands. Prov 14:1 (NASB)

aa 4 A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. Prov 12:4 (NIV)

She will be a crown or a cancer.

bb To be fair, the situation may be reversed & the husband is the culprit.

B Marriage is not 50% - 50%: It takes 100% devotion to the Lord & to each other.

1 When two people love each other & the Lord, God can guide & bless them.

2 As the family goes so goes the church & the nation.

a The family has been ridiculed / attacked in our time.

b Today its important we review what the creator of the home has to say about the Biblical view of husbands, wives, kids.

C Women have been thrust into a fourfold crisis in our day.

1 Crisis of identity (Feminist mov. Has degenerated into women wanting to be men)

a This day we have feminized boys & masculinized girls in a effort to have a unisex society.

aa This is what si observed in communist societies - BTW: The Bible condemns this approach!

5 "A woman shall not wear man's clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman's clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God. Deut 22:5 (NASB)

14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, 1 Cor 11:14 (NASB)

bb God created women to have gentle tender qualities in her appearance, manners & action.

b Satan is always trying to blur these distinctions.

2 Crisis of Modesty

1 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives,2 as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior.3 Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses;4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.5 For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands;6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear. 1 Peter 3:1-6 (NASB)

a Satan has influenced women to throw decency / modesty into the wind in their dress, behavior, talk.

b I’m being old-fashioned, I’m trying to teach you the eternal truths of God’s Word on the issue of feminine / modest dress.

c It’s a sin for a man to look upon a woman with lust, it’s the woman’s place not the invite lust by immodest dress. (Every mans battle)

3 Crisis of Responsibility

3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. 6 Likewise urge the young men to be sensible ;Titus 2:3-6 (NASB)

a Woman were designed by God to fulfill certain responsibilities.

aa Not saying women can’t achieve in all areas but there are certain responsibilities that only women can do properly, these two responsibilities being a wife & a mom.

bb When women free themselves from these responsibilities she is headed for disaster.

b A train liberated from the tracks is not free; it’s a useless wreck.

c Women who seek to be liberated from her God-given calling may find herself a wreck - morally, spiritually, & emotionally.

4 Crisis of Authority

a Women today are faced with the choice of living under the authority & protection of a husband

1 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, 1 Peter 3:1 (NASB)

22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. Eph 5:22-24 (NASB)

aa Many men are refusing to assume their proper / God-given place as the Spiritual leadership of the home.

bb We need only men who are not afraid to lead in their home!

cc When women do not live under the leadership / authority of their husband she will have a deep-seated spirit of rebellion; she will be unhappy & frustrated & resentful.

dd An unwillingness to live under authority is indicative of a rebellious heart.

D The answer for their crisis is for a woman to be what God desires her to be & her personal fulfillment will follow.

1 Proverbs describes a happy housewife & they are quite different than the demanding & dehumaning description given by the feminist movement.

2 I want to give you six aspects from the Bible to piece together to see Biblical womanhood.

3 Pray.

1 Six Aspects of Biblical Womanhood

A A Bible Woman Knows How to Please Her Husband.

1 11 The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life. Prov 31:11-12 (NASB)

a Her husband depends on her & trusts her.

aa If your husband trusts you he has no fears or suspicions as she’s at work, because he knows your character.

bb He knows you’d do nothing but good for him and your babies.

b 23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. Prov 31:23 (NASB)

He’s proud to call you his wife.

aa Her husband tells her she is the best woman in the world.

c Your wife needs to know she’s making you proud!

B A Bible Woman Has Beautiful Hands.

1 Scripture tells us multiple times what works a Godly woman’s hands do.

a 13 She looks for wool and flax And works with her hands in delight. Prov 31:13 (NASB)

16 She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard. Prov 31:16 (NASB)

(Not afraid of work! Going to supermarket, selling real estate, planting garden, Gets done what’s got to be done!)

aa 14 She is like merchant ships; She brings her food from afar. 15 She rises also while it is still night And gives food to her household And portions to her maidens.16 She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She girds herself with strength And makes her arms strong.18 She senses that her gain is good; Her lamp does not go out at night. Prov 31:14-18 (NASB)

Provides food / clothing for family.

19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hands grasp the spindle. 20 She extends her hand to the poor, And she stretches out her hands to the needy. Prov 31:19-20 (NASB)

Gives to the poor! Needy!

b There are protective, productive, purposeful, beautiful hands.

2 Her hands touch & caress, & wipe away the tears of her children.

a She unfurrows the worried brow of her husband.

b She is proud of being a woman!

aa She’s proud of being the governess of her family.

bb She’s not the slave but the queen!

C The Bible Woman is a Teacher of Wisdom.

26 She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Prov 31:26 (NASB)

1 She teaches her children the way they should live.

a Love, right from wrong, correction, discipline.

b Lay down the law!

8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, And forsake not the law of thy mother: Prov 1:8 (ASV)

20 My son, keep the commandment of thy father, And forsake not the law of thy mother: Prov 6:20 (ASV)

2 She shares her insight / wisdom with her husband and he’s wise enough to listen.

D The Bible Woman Knows How to Keep the House Nice.

22 She makes coverings for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. Prov 31:22 (NASB)

1 She keeps herself attractive for her husband.

a Some women only “fix themselves up” when they’re going out among people. (Fail to be attractive at home.)

b Paint the house!

2 No one can change the way they look, but everyone can be clean, neat, & well kept.

E The Bible Woman Knows How to Laugh.

25 Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future . 26 She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Prov 31:25-26 (NASB)

1 She can laugh because she knows the Lord is with her.

a Your family (kids & husbands) are happy, content, sage when you are in a good mood.

b Your laugh can turn fighting children & a fretting husband into happy people.

2 Your smile reflects your kindness & the wisdom of your spirit.

F A Bible Woman is Head Over Heels in Love With the #1 Love of her Life, God.

1 A good looking woman is a beautiful creature. (Not a sin) But the woman who walks with the Lord / SEEKS Him has a beauty that never fades, never goes out of style.

30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Prov 31:30 (NASB)

2 A man who has a wife who daily read the Word, meditates, prays, & seeks to obey the Lord’s Will has a treasure that is beyond the price of rubies.

a Her babies will bless that woman.

aa How? They will raise their families after the example they have seen you live out!

bb The biggest blessing of a parent is to see their kids love & worship God.

b A mothers heart is broken if they’re children live a morally bankrupt / useless life: A life not lived for God is useless.

aa 25 A foolish son is a grief to his father And bitterness to her who bore him. Prov 17:25 (NASB)
