F. Keyword: Beginning

G. Key verse:

Genesis 3:15 (Amplified Bible)

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. The LORD talked with Abram

"The Lord said to Abram: Lift up now your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;"

The LORD's message to Abram is one that will bless him and will not run out for the rest of his life and his descendants after him.

Abram was a peace maker and he got blessed for it because:

a. he took the initiative in resolving the conflicts rather than being part of the conflict

b. he let others have the first choice, even if that means not getting what he wants or his will be second choice

c. he puts family peace above personal desires.

Abram was an exact opposite of his nephew Lot.

Isaiah 49:18 (Amplified Bible)

Lift up your eyes round about and see [the returning exiles, ready to rebuild Jerusalem]; all these gather together and come to you. As I live, says the Lord, you [Zion] shall surely clothe yourself with them all as with an ornament and bind them on you as a bride does.

Isaiah 60:4 (Amplified Bible)

Lift up your eyes round about you and see! They all gather themselves together, they come to you. Your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried and nursed in the arms.

B. After Lot had left him

"after Lot had left him,"

1. Reasons:

a. Lot was not glorifying the LORD GOD

Genesis 13:5 (Amplified Bible)

But Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.

He was also made rich because of his uncle Abram's relationship with the LORD GOD, Abram saw this clearly that the LORD GOD was prospering him, therefore acknowledging Him in worship but Lot failed to see this like some people does. They thought their blessed because of their own abilities and talents forgetting to acknowledge and thanking the LORD GOD for everything good that happened in their lives.

b. Lot likes to argue - argument is strife.

Proverbs 17:1 (Amplified Bible)

BETTER IS a dry morsel with quietness than a house full of feasting [on offered sacrifices] with strife.

Proverbs 17:14 (Amplified Bible)

The beginning of strife is as when water first trickles [from a crack in a dam]; therefore stop contention before it becomes worse and quarreling breaks out.

Quarelling or strife resulting from argument will not give you a blessing but instead ask GOD about it.

James 4:2 (Amplified Bible)

You are jealous and covet [what others have] and your desires go unfulfilled; [so] you become murderers. [To hate is to murder as far as your hearts are concerned.] You burn with envy and anger and are not able to obtain [the gratification, the contentment, and the happiness that you seek], so you fight and war. You do not have, because you do not ask.

1 John 3:15 (Amplified Bible)

Anyone who hates (abominates, detests) his brother [in Christ] is [at heart] a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding (persevering) within him.

As GOD's steward, we are not to quarrel.

2 Timothy 2:24 (Amplified Bible)

And the servant of the Lord must not be quarrelsome (fighting and contending). Instead, he must be kindly to everyone and mild-tempered [preserving the bond of peace]; he must be a skilled and suitable teacher, patient and forbearing and willing to suffer wrong.

Abram disliked strife and thus correcting his nephew, Lot.

Genesis 13:7-8 (Amplified Bible)

And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land [making fodder more difficult to obtain].

So Abram said to Lot, Let there be no strife, I beg of you, between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are relatives.

c. Lot likes the blessing instead of the company of the blessed.

Genesis 13:9 (Amplified Bible)

Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself, I beg of you, from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you choose the right hand, then I will go to the left.

Luke 6:22 (Amplified Bible)

Blessed (happy—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, apart from your outward condition—and to be envied) are you when people despise (hate) you, and when they exclude and excommunicate you [as disreputable] and revile and denounce you and defame and cast out and spurn your name as evil (wicked) on account of the Son of Man.

The company of the blessed are much more to be enjoyed rather than the blessing.

Proverbs 17:1 (Amplified Bible)

BETTER IS a dry morsel with quietness than a house full of feasting [on offered sacrifices] with strife.

Philippians 2:3 (Amplified Bible)

Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind) let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves].

For example, if you find a job that pays well, yet when you visited the office or in your first day, there are multiple strifes or quarrellings or arguments in it, get out from it, in the long term, those strife will put you on a cursed situation.

Lot never argued when his uncle Abram presented him an option. He could have said this to his uncle. "Please don't separate from me, I'm blessed because of you." but he would rather have his own way by ending up choosing Sodom and Gomorrah instead of his uncle Abram, who in the first place blessed him with his company with the LORD.

2 Corinthians 12:14 (Amplified Bible)

Now for the third time I am ready to come to [visit] you. And I will not burden you [financially], for it is not your [money] that I want but you; for children are not duty bound to lay up store for their parents, but parents for their children.

Genesis 13:10 (Amplified Bible)

And Lot looked and saw that everywhere the Jordan Valley was well watered. Before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, [it was all] like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

Example of Ruth begging Naomi to not separate from her:

Ruth 1:15-18 (Amplified Bible)

And Naomi said, See, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law.

And Ruth said, Urge me not to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. our people shall be my people and your God my God.

Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts me from you.

When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she said no more.

d. Lot is selfish

Genesis 13:11 (Amplified Bible)

Then Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley and [he] traveled east. So they separated.

Galatians 5:19-20 (Amplified Bible)

Now the doings (practices) of the flesh are clear (obvious): they are immorality, impurity, indecency,

Idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger (ill temper), selfishness, divisions (dissensions), party spirit (factions, sects with peculiar opinions, heresies),

e. Lot is worldly because of his lust of the eyes.

1 John 2:16 (Amplified Bible)

For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things]—these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself].

Genesis 13:10 (Amplified Bible)

And Lot looked and saw that everywhere the Jordan Valley was well watered. Before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, [it was all] like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

f. Lot was never bothered by wickedness and sin around him.

Genesis 13:12-13 (Amplified Bible)

Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the [Jordan] Valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom and dwelt there.

But the men of Sodom were wicked and exceedingly great sinners against the Lord.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Lot's future was he lived in a cave with his 2 daughters or rather 2 wives, having children from them or his grandchildren at the same time.

Genesis 19:30-36 (Amplified Bible)

And Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him, for he feared to dwell in Zoar; and he lived in a cave, he and his two daughters.

The elder said to the younger, Our father is aging, and there is not a man on earth to live with us in the customary way.

Come, let us make our father drunk with wine, and we will lie with him, so that we may preserve offspring (our race) through our father.

And they made their father drunk with wine that night, and the older went in and lay with her father; and he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she arose.

Then the next day the firstborn said to the younger, See here, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drunk with wine tonight also, and then you go in and lie with him, so that we may preserve offspring (our race) through our father.

And they made their father drunk with wine again that night, and the younger arose and lay with him; and he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she arose.

Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.
