II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

2 Thessalonians 2:15 (Amplified Bible)

We need to listen to word of mouth taken from the Bible.

VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. Stand firm
"So then, brethren, stand firm"
Be stationary and persevere.
1 Corinthians 15:58 (Amplified Bible)
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be firm (steadfast), immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord [always being superior, excelling, doing more than enough in the service of the Lord], knowing and being continually aware that your labor in the Lord is not futile [it is never wasted or to no purpose].
1 Corinthians 16:13 (Amplified Bible)
Be alert and on your guard; stand firm in your faith (your conviction respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, keeping the trust and holy fervor born of faith and a part of it). Act like men and be courageous; grow in strength!
Philippians 4:1 (Amplified Bible)
THEREFORE, MY brethren, whom I love and yearn to see, my delight and crown (wreath of victory), thus stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.
B. Hold fast to the traditions and instructions
"and hold fast to the traditions and instructions which you were taught by us,"
To use strength, hold, retain, keep, lay hand, obtain, and take
2 Thessalonians 3:6 (Amplified Bible)
Now we charge you, brethren, in the name and on the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) that you withdraw and keep away from every brother (fellow believer) who is slack in the performance of duty and is disorderly, living as a shirker and not walking in accord with the traditions and instructions that you have received from us.
1 Corinthians 11:2 (Amplified Bible)
I appreciate and commend you because you always remember me in everything and keep firm possession of the traditions (the substance of my instructions), just as I have [verbally] passed them on to you.
Romans 16:17 (Amplified Bible)
I appeal to you, brethren, to be on your guard concerning those who create dissensions and difficulties and cause divisions, in opposition to the doctrine (the teaching) which you have been taught. [I warn you to turn aside from them, to] avoid them.
C. Whether by our word of mouth
"whether by our word of mouth or by letter."
2 Thessalonians 2:2 (Amplified Bible)
Not to allow your minds to be quickly unsettled or disturbed or kept excited or alarmed, whether it be by some [pretended] revelation of [the] Spirit or by word or by letter [alleged to be] from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has [already] arrived and is here.
2 Thessalonians 3:14 (Amplified Bible)
But if anyone [in the church] refuses to obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed.
Word is logos meaning said, topic, motive, account, cause.
Epistle is letter.
A writing, directed or sent, communicating intelligence to a distant person; a letter; a letter missive. It is rarely used in familiar conversation or writings, but chiefly in solemn or formal transactions.
(2 Thessalonians 2:15 ERV)
So, brothers and sisters, stand strong and continue to believe the teachings we gave you when we were there and by letter.
