Our people must learn

E. Main theme: good works

G. Key verses:

Titus 1:5 (Amplified Bible)

1:5 For this reason I left you [behind] in Crete, that you might set right what was defective and finish what was left undone, and that you might appoint elders and set them over the churches (assemblies) in every city as I directed you.

Titus 3:8 (Amplified Bible)

3:8 This message is most trustworthy, and concerning these things I want you to insist steadfastly, so that those who have believed in (trusted in, relied on) God may be careful to apply themselves to honorable occupations and to doing good, for such things are [not only] excellent and right [in themselves], but [they are] good and profitable for the people.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Learn to devote themselves

"And let our own [people really] learn to apply themselves"

Deuteronomy 4:10 (Amplified Bible)

4:10 Especially how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God in Horeb, the Lord said to me, Gather the people together to Me and I will make them hear My words, that they may learn [reverently] to fear Me all the days they live upon the earth and that they may teach their children.

Deuteronomy 5:1 (Amplified Bible)

5:1 AND MOSES called all Israel, and said to them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances which I speak in your hearing this day, that you may learn them and take heed and do them.

Psalms 119:7 (Amplified Bible)

119:7 I will praise and give thanks to You with uprightness of heart when I learn [by sanctified experiences] Your righteous judgments [Your decisions against and punishments for particular lines of thought and conduct].

I can learn to follow the LORD, learn to do good and learn to follow GOD's righteous laws.

B. To do good works

"to good deeds (to honest labor and honorable employment),"

James 2:17-18 (Amplified Bible)

2:17 So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).

2:18 But someone will say [to you then], You [say you] have faith, and I have [good] works. Now you show me your [alleged] faith apart from any [good] works [if you can], and I by [good] works [of obedience] will show you my faith.

It's the same thing with this world the only difference is we have relationship with the LORD GOD and we do good works because it's our action proving our faith in GOD. While this world, only does good works to be saved and to prove themselves to the people not GOD, but they already got their reward that is, they are praised by people.

1 Peter 2:12 (Amplified Bible)

2:12 Conduct yourselves properly (honorably, righteously) among the Gentiles, so that, although they may slander you as evildoers, [yet] they may by witnessing your good deeds [come to] glorify God in the day of inspection [when God shall look upon you wanderers as a pastor or shepherd looks over his flock].

Matthew 25:35-36 (Amplified Bible)

25:35 For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you brought Me together with yourselves and welcomed and entertained and lodged Me,

25:36 I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me with help and ministering care, I was in prison and you came to see Me.

C. To provide for daily necessities

"so that they may be able to meet necessary demands whenever the occasion may require"

Colossians 1:10 (Amplified Bible)

1:10 That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition].

John 15:16 (Amplified Bible)

15:16 You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed you [I have planted you], that you might go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit may be lasting [that it may remain, abide], so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name [as presenting all that I AM], He may give it to you.

Philippians 1:11 (Amplified Bible)

1:11 May you abound in and be filled with the fruits of righteousness (of right standing with God and right doing) which come through Jesus Christ (the Anointed One), to the honor and praise of God [that His glory may be both manifested and recognized].

We provide for our own daily necessities and not expect others to do it for us.

D. To not live unproductive lives

"and not be living idle and uncultivated and unfruitful lives"

Titus 3:9 (Amplified Bible)

3:9 But avoid stupid and foolish controversies and genealogies and dissensions and wrangling about the Law, for they are unprofitable and futile.

Ecclesiastes 7:18 (Amplified Bible)

7:18 It is good that you should take hold of this and from that withdraw not your hand; for he who [reverently] fears and worships God will come forth from them all.

1 Thessalonians 5:22 (Amplified Bible)

5:22 Abstain from evil [shrink from it and keep aloof from it] in whatever form or whatever kind it may be.

Proverbs 20:3 (Amplified Bible)

20:3 It is an honor for a man to cease from strife and keep aloof from it, but every fool will quarrel.

It is an honor for us to avoid strife, but our trust is in GOD.

IX. CONCLUSION:

We need to teach our people (1) to learn to devote themselves, (2) to do good works, (3) to work for themselves providing their daily necessities, and (4) to not live unproductive lives.
