What God Wants of You

September 15, 2013 Morning Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: God does not want all of what you have; He wants all of YOU!

Focus Passage: Micah 6:6-8

Introduction: I’ve often heard people say, “I just wish I knew what God wants from me.” That is a very self-centered sentiment. God has clearly told us what He wants from us in His word. Yet, we think it must be something more; something more specific to our lives and what we can “do for God.” It really isn’t what He wants us to DO; it’s what He wants us to BE. Plain and simple, He wants us to be like Jesus. If we need more explanation, we can turn to His word. We find that He wants us to “Be Holy”. We find He wants us to love Him with all of our hearts, minds, and souls.

I. Justice (do what’s right)

a. "In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12 NASB)

b. Give God the glory; don’t take it for yourself.

II. Mercy (love mercy)

a. "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' (Matthew 22:39 NASB)

b. Story of the Good Samaritan

III. Humility (walk with God)

a. But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE." (James 4:6 NASB)

b. Know who you are in Christ. Know that you are a sinner and do not deserve grace. Know that without Christ, you have no hope for yourself. Know that you are not better than anyone else. “There, but for the grace of God, go I.” – John Bradford

Invitation: Are you doing what is right and just with your fellow man? Are you giving all the glory to God? Are you loving others as you’d like to be loved? Are you treating others the same way? Are you humble in the sight of God? Are you walking with Him daily?
