Mark 10:45 (Amplified Bible)

10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to have service rendered to Him, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for (instead of) many.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. CHRIST said to the fruitless fig tree

"And He said to it,"

The fig tree was there for a reason, it was to set an example, to the disciples. The curse didn't come because CHRIST was disappointed about the fig tree having lots of leaves but no fruit (representing professing religion but no change of life as fruit - see Matthew 3:8)

Matthew 3:8 (Amplified Bible)

3:8 Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart];

But the curse came to point out to the disciples the wrath coming upon the people of Israel as consequence of them not bearing fruit for the owner.

Luke 13:6 (Amplified Bible)

13:6 And He told them this parable: A certain man had a fig tree, planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it, but did not find [any].

GOD is the owner of the fig tree (Israel) but they never gave fruit to GOD, after all what's been done to them by GOD.

Ezekiel 28:25 (Amplified Bible)

28:25 Thus says the Lord God: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and I shall be set apart and separated and My holiness made apparent in them in the sight of the nations, then shall they dwell in their own land which I gave to My servant Jacob.

John 1:10-11 (Amplified Bible)

1:10 He came into the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him [did not know Him].

1:11 He came to that which belonged to Him [to His own—His domain, creation, things, world], and they who were His own did not receive Him and did not welcome Him.

The Excellent Sower Heaven could afford was given to Israel and that is CHRIST and yet still no fruit.

Mark 4:14 (Amplified Bible)

4:14 The sower sows the Word.

B. "No one will eat fruit from you again."

"No one ever again shall eat fruit from you."

This is CHRIST teaching a parable to His disciples acted upon or in action. CHRIST is making a point by making the fig tree as His example, during those days where there's no powerpoint presentations yet. It was already prophesied and CHRIST is fulfilling a prophecy.

Isaiah 5:5-6 (Amplified Bible)

5:5 And now I will tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be eaten and burned up; and I will break down its wall, and it shall be trodden down [by enemies].

5:6 And I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned or cultivated, but there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

John 15:6 (Amplified Bible)

15:6 If a person does not dwell in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken-off] branch, and withers; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, and they are burned.

Jeremiah 11:19 (Amplified Bible)

11:19 But I was like a tame lamb that is brought to the slaughter; I did not know that they had devised inventions and schemes against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

CHRIST is looking for Himself to Israel, like in a mirror, but CHRIST can't see Himself, therefore no fruit, the relationship with CHRIST was not there. They rejected the very Branch that will bear them fruit.

Isaiah 4:2 (Amplified Bible)

4:2 In that day the Branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land shall be excellent and lovely to those of Israel who have escaped.

Jeremiah 23:5 (Amplified Bible)

23:5 Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch (Sprout), and He will reign as King and do wisely and will execute justice and righteousness in the land.

Zechariah 6:12 (Amplified Bible)

6:12 And say to him, Thus says the Lord of hosts: [You, Joshua] behold (look at, keep in sight, watch) the Man [the Messiah] whose name is the Branch, for He shall grow up in His place and He shall build the [true] temple of the Lord.

If CHRIST looks at you, will He see Himself? or just dead works or your own way to reach out to GOD?

1 John 4:17 (Amplified Bible)

4:17 In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world.

BECAUSE AS HE IS, SO ARE WE IN THIS WORLD...

C. The disciples are listening to what CHRIST said

"And His disciples were listening [to what He said]. "

Luke 8:10 (Amplified Bible)

8:10 He said to them, To you it has been given to [come progressively to] know (to recognize and understand more strongly and clearly) the mysteries and secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that, [though] looking, they may not see; and hearing, they may not comprehend.

Isaiah 6:9 (Amplified Bible)

6:9 And He said, Go and tell this people, Hear and hear continually, but understand not; and see and see continually, but do not apprehend with your mind.

Jeremiah 5:21 (Amplified Bible)

5:21 Hear now this, O foolish people without understanding or heart, who have eyes and see not, who have ears and hear not:

Ezekiel 12:2 (Amplified Bible)

12:2 Son of man, you dwell in the midst of the house of the rebellious, who have eyes to see and see not, who have ears to hear and hear not, for they are a rebellious house.

Yes, they listened but they didn't get it. Still they are concerned with little things, with the fig tree that was dried from the roots but they're not concerned with huge things about the fig tree being Israel in this story. They are concerned with the plants but not with themselves. I remembered Jonah concerned with the gourd but not with the people of Nineveh. The situations never changed thru the years.

Jonah 4:10-11 (Amplified Bible)

4:10 Then said the Lord, You have had pity on the gourd, for which you have not labored nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night.

4:11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons not [yet old enough to] know their right hand from their left, and also many cattle [not accountable for sin]?

IX. CONCLUSION:

CHRIST took away our curses, live CHRIST in this world and listen with understanding and doing.

James 1:22 (Amplified Bible)

1:22 But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth].

1 John 3:2 (Amplified Bible)

3:2 Beloved, we are [even here and] now God’s children; it is not yet disclosed (made clear) what we shall be [hereafter], but we know that when He comes and is manifested, we shall [as God’s children] resemble and be like Him, for we shall see Him just as He [really] is.

1 John 4:17 (Amplified Bible)

4:17 In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world.
