Summary: I am so thankful that the birth of Christ brings things to life.

The Birth Of Christ What Dose It Prove?

Text: Luke 2:1-20

1. It Proves That God Is All-powerful.

a. God was controlling the events of the world to bring about fulfillment of prophecy. 2:1-6

I believe that even Satan could not have stopped this. God was in control!

b. Mary even proclaimed God’s Mighty power. Luke:1:49

Luke 1:49 (KJV) 49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

God's power was now to be demonstrated in a way never before witnessed by mankind.

.

The enormous power of God was to be demonstrated even in the birth of the Messiah! A miracle was to be performed through that of a virgin birth!

2. It Proves That Man Needed A Savior. 2:11

One day I was watching TV and a commercial for the movie superman came on.

What caught my ear was a small segment that said, “We don’t need a savior!” Satin

wants mankind to believe that very statement.

Do we need a Savior? Yes! Why?

Isaiah 53:6 (KJV) 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

a. We need a Savior because we are sinners.

b. We need a Savior because man’s way is insufficient.

c. We need a Savior to be reconciled to God.

3. It Proves That God Loves You And Me.

John 3:16 (KJV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 15:13 (KJV) 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

The word “LOVED” is an action word.

God did something because of His love.

Ephesians 2:4-5 (KJV) “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)”

1 John 3:1 (KJV) “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”

All of God’s Word Is Direct To His Love For Mankind

a. The Love of God is a strong powerful love.

Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV) “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”

It is not a weak love that can easily be destroyed. The love of God is an everlasting love which is willing to make any sacrifices for us.

Paul was sure that nothing could separate him from the love of Christ.

Romans 8:35 (KJV) “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”

b. The Love of God is a proven love.

It is not merely deceiving words but proved by the sacrificial death of Christ on the cross.

1 John 4:9 (KJV) In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

We can be certain that God loves us when we see how He sent His only Son to die for us

c. The Love of God is a pure love.

It has no ulterior motives. The world is filled with love with hidden motives. But the love of God is pure and unselfish.

Ephesians 3:19 II Corinthians 6:6 II Corinthians 8:8

d. The Love of God is patient.

It does not destroy us because of our imperfections.

2 Peter 3:9 (KJV) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

God is longsuffering and slow to anger because of His great love towards us. He patiently waits for us to be formed in His likeness. We must be grateful for His patient love towards us.

e. The Love of God is a providing love.

This kind of love I am talking about requires giving whatever is necessary. And that was Jesus! He gave all that was necessary, in Genesis 22:8 (KJV) ‘ And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering…”

But it does not stop their, because God loves us with a love that keeps on giving. Not only does it meet our need.

But God’s loving provision is for all eternity.

1 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV) “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

f. The Love of God is a perfect love.

It is not like the imperfect human love. It would be vain to search for perfect love in any human relationship. There would always be flaws and disappointments in human love.

The only place to find perfect love is in the Love of God. It is only in God’s love that the perfections of Love can be experienced.

4. It Proves That God Can Use Anyone.

a. Look At Mary The Mother Of Jesus.

Mary a simple, and a poor girl of Nazareth. She was not -

• Fashionable, wealthy or learned

• A High Priestess or Prophetess

• from a Royal Family presently on the Throne

• A famous columnist "Dear Mary"

• A star of stage and screen.

• A Heroine in anyone’s eyes.

b. Look at the Step Father - Joseph

• Not Wealthy.

• Not Proud But Humble.

c. Look At The Shepherds.

The recipients of the Angelic Announcement of the birth.

The announcement did not come to -

• No Kings or Potentates

• No High Priest or Arch-bishop or Pope.

• No Sanhedrin or Council

• No League of Nations

• Nor No Ecumenical Council

No but just to some small shepherds.

Just imagine with me for a few minutes these shepherds.

They where occupied with their ordinary task of the day.

There was nothing to suggest that this night was to be different from

any other night.

Yet the extraordinary happened, in the midst of the night an Angel

announced "Unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, Who

is Christ the Lord."

Then came a fitting climax to this announcement. There appeared a

multitude of host praising God.

The shepherds went to verify the revelation of the Angels.

Now before you condemn them for this act, the where actually following

out the Word of God. Scripture says to "prove all things, and hold fast

that which is good.

It is always when the angels have departed, that the real test of faith

comes.

Many people see the Star, but never let it lead them to Christ.

After, There is always a return to life’s ordinary duties.

But as with the lives of these shepherds your life could never be the

same again.

They would never forget this experience. You see, the real Christmas

Day is when Christ is born into a mans heart.

That day he will not forget like these shepherds.

5. It Proves That The Scriptures Were Divinely Inspired.

It would seem that many of the Old Testament prophets had glimpse of the coming Messiah.

But Isaiah was the one who gave more prophecy about the Savior than any other.

It was Isaiah who saw Jesus on the cross.

It was Isaiah who said that Jesus would be born of a virgin.

As you read the writings of this man Isaiah you would think that he had a copy of the four gospels in his hands.

In one verse, Isaiah 9:6, he told us in just a few words everything that Jesus would do.

Everything about his birth was for told.

• The Linage – tribe and family

• The manner of his birth Isaiah 7:14

• The city - Micah 5;2

• The time – Daniel 9:25
