Summary: The Holy Spirit is to lead us, moment by moment, communicating with our reborn spirit.

The distinct Ministries of God’s Spirit and the Ministries of God’s Word

Part 1 - The Holy Spirit of God, God the Holy Spirit:

Is the Spirit of Christ: Rom 8:9 ...The Spirit of Christ...

Is the Spirit of the Father: Mat 10:20 ...The Spirit of your Father...

Is the Spirit of God: Rom 8:9 ...The Spirit of God...

Is God: John 4:24 God is Spirit...

Here are the principal Ministries of the Holy Spirit to those who, after they have been born again, receive Him by faith, having met the requirement that they are willing to obey Him:

1. The Holy Spirit is to lead us, moment by moment, communicating with our reborn spirit:

Rom 8:14 As many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.

Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with (speaks to) our spirit...

Isa 58:11 The LORD will guide you continually...(in the way of righteousness)

Notice the Holy Spirit communicates with our spirits, our hearts, and not with our brains.

2. The Holy Spirit is to guide us into, reveal to us, teach us and remind us, of God’s word:

John 16:13 ...The Spirit of truth...will guide you into all truth (God’s word is truth)

John 14:26 ...The Holy Spirit...will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

1 Cor 2:11 ...No one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

1 Cor 2:10 But God has revealed them to us by His Spirit...

We are totally dependant on the Spirit of God to reveal to us the meaning of God’s words.

2 Pe 1:20 ...No prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation.

Prov 1:23 I will pour out my Spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.

3. The Holy Spirit is to anoint us with God’s breath so we can boldly speak God’s words:

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel...

1 John 2:27 The anointing which you have received from Him (God) abides

(lives) in you... just as He has taught you, you are to abide in Him.

1 Pet 1:12 ...Those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit...

Acts 1:8 You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me...(with spiritual gifts - but at His will).

4. The Holy Spirit is to cause us and empower us always to know and to do God’s will:

Ezek 36:27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, (My words) and you will keep My judgments (words) and do them.

Phil 2:13 It is God who works in you to will and to do His good pleasure.

5. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of prayer, so we can pray God’s will, and then believe Him:

Eph 6:18 Pray at all times on every occasion, in every season in the Spirit...

Jude 20 Build yourselves up on your most holy faith praying in the Holy Spirit,

Rom 8:26 ...We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us...He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of prayer and of faith).

6. The Holy Spirit is the mind of Christ by whom we can then think the thoughts of God:

Rom 11:34 Who has known the mind of the Lord... (this is a quote of this verse:)

Isa 40:13 Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord...(this mind is a spiritual mind)

1 Cor 2:16 ...We have the mind of Christ (only when we are full of His Spirit).

Phil 4:8 ...if there be any praise, think on these things (God’s thoughts).

7. When we are led by the Holy Spirit we live “in Christ” and are saved (safe) from sin:

Rom 8:1 ...Those who are “in Christ Jesus”...walk according to the Spirit.

2 Tim 2:10 ...The salvation (from sin) which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

8. When we are being led by the Holy Spirit we are not ruled by our human nature (flesh):

Rom 8:9 You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you...(we’re kept from fulfilling our flesh’s wants apart from Him)

9. When we are being led by the Holy Spirit Jesus is now our Lord and we belong to Him:

2 Cor 3:17 The Lord is the Spirit... (and the word Lord means that He owns us)

1 Cor 12:3 ...No one can (truly) say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

Rom 8:9 ...if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he is not (currently) His

10. When we are being led by the Holy Spirit we are already living in the kingdom of God:

Rom 14:17 The kingdom of God (kingdom of Heaven) is...in the Holy Spirit.

We must enter this kingdom here in order to inherit it hereafter. And we experience God’s righteousness, peace and joy, because to be in His kingdom is to be living in His presence.

Ps 140:13 The righteous (being full of Your spirit)...live in Your presence. TEV

A very important question to every born again Christian: Since these are the ten principal Ministries of the Hoy Sprit which we experience when we are full of the Holy Spirit; Then:

Acts 19:2 Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed? KJV

Are you then experiencing these ten principal Ministries of the Holy Spirit in your life? If you were once baptized with the Holy Spirit, have you since grieved or quenched, that is, lost the Holy Spirit; do you now need to resubmit to His rule over you and be filled again?

Eph 5:18 ...Be being filled with the Holy Spirit and always controlled by Him AMP

Part 2 - The Word of God; God the Word:

Jesus is the word of God: Rev 19:13 ...His name is called The Word of God.

He is the word of the Father: John 14:10 (Jesus) The words I say are not my own

TLB but are from my Father who lives in me;

The word of God is God: John 1:1 The word was God (and still is God)...

2 Pe 1:4 ...Promises (words) that by these you

may be partakers of the divine nature.

The word of God on the pages of our Bibles is dead; it becomes alive to us when directly or through someone it is spoken by the breath of God, the Holy Spirit. These living words can only be believed in our spirit, which is what God calls our heart, not by our intellects:

Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness...

Ps 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart...

1 Cor 2:14 The natural, non-spiritual person (by use of their intellect) cannot

know the words of God’s Spirit...Spirit can be known only by spirit — God's Spirit and our spirits in open communion. AMP/MSGE

Here are the principal ministries of the word of God to those whose hearts believe them:

1. Our spirits, or hearts, being dead to God due to sin, are Born Again the moment we believe, and receive into them, the first words (Jesus) of the gospel: That Christ bore and died for our sins and rose again; If we believe this we are forgiven and clean of past sins.

Jam 1:18 ...He gave us birth as sons by His Word of Truth (believed)... AMP

John 15:3 You are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. KJV

2. Our re-born spirits must grow in the grace, wisdom and knowledge of God all of which come by believing His words, first as milk fed to us by others - or our spirits will die to God.

1 Pe 2:2 As newborn babies, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow (Christ, the word, is the grace, wisdom and knowledge of God).

Prov 2:1-5 ...if you receive My words...incline your ear to wisdom; you will...find the knowledge of God (know Him) Acts 20:3 ...The word of His grace;

3. God words are His nature of love; by them He loves me and imparts His love to me:

Ps 143:8 Cause me to hear Your loving-kindness (your words) in the morning;

1 Jo 2:5 Whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him.

4. God’s words (Jesus) are faith; they impart His faith to me as I hear them with my heart:

Rom 10:8 ...In your heart, that is, the word of faith which we preach:

Rom 10:17 Faith comes by (heart) hearing and hearing of the word of God.

5. God’s word tells me of God’s promise of the Holy Spirit and how by faith to receive Him:

Gal 3:2 Did you receive the Holy Spirit as the result of obeying the Law or

AMP was it by (heart) hearing the promise of the Spirit and believing it?

6. More of God’s words in me progressively sanctify me, that is, free me from sin’s power,

as I believe I died with Christ to my flesh, so making me righteous, holy, and like Christ.

John 17:17 Sanctify them (make them holy) by Your truth: Your word is truth.

2 Thes 2:13 ...Salvation (is) through sanctification by...(our) belief in the truth,

Rom 6:11 ...Believe yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ...

Col 3:10 ...The new man (our spirit) is renewed in knowledge (by God’s word) conforming him to the likeness of Him (Christ) who created him,

7. As we speak God’s words from our hearts, by His spirit, to others, we bear good fruit:

Mat 12:33-34 ...A tree is known by its fruit... For out of the abundance of the

heart the mouth speaks (our words are our fruit – good or bad fruit).

Prov 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, he who wins souls is wise.

8. All God’s promises and His will for us are in His words, as brought to us by His Spirit:

Promises of: provision, health, protection, deliverance from addictions, power to minister, answers to our prayers for us and others, and eternity with God in heaven.

All of these promises are for us when we are “in Christ”, that is, we are led by His Spirit, For it is then that we are one spirit with Him – And He cannot deny Himself:

2 Cor 1:20 For all the promises of God, in Him (when we live in Christ) are Yes...

1 Cor 6:17 He who is joined to the Lord (is “in Christ”) is one spirit with Him.

2 Tim 2:13 ...He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.

9. By His words God warns, corrects, instructs and teaches me true versus false doctrine:

Ps 19:11 Moreover by them (Your words) Your servant is warned,

2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for

doctrine, reproof, correction, and for instruction in righteousness.

10. God’s words are the words of His kingdom of righteousness, by them He reigns over us:

Mark 4:26 The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed (God’s word)

Matt 13:19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom...(with their heart)

As we believe the words of the kingdom, God’s kingdom of righteousness is formed in our hearts. When we submit to the rule of the Holy Spirit we enter and live in God’s kingdom.

Luke 17:21 (Jesus)...For the kingdom of God is within you (in your re-born spirit)

These are the 10 principal ministries of the word of God. An important question: Do you...

Jam 1:21 ...Receive (daily) with meekness (a hearing heart) the germinating

seed of God’s word, which is able to (fully) save your souls

1 Thes 2:13 ...The word of God, which works mightily in you who believe.
