Summary: As we look back to Calvary we can clearly what the Old Testament believers was looking for God to provide. For us today the LORD has already provided.

The LORD Provided

Genesis 22:1-14

This story takes to around 2000 B.C. involving a man that was called out to eventually become nation of people. He and his wife stricken in years God uses to perform one of His many great miracles.

Through this amazing journey of faith by Abraham and Sarah we see:

• The Testing of Their Faith

See: Genesis 15:1-6 God says you will have a child from your own bowels

Mention: Genesis 16:1-5 Their failure to trust by manufacturing a child

• The Center of Their Failures (Egypt which is a picture of the world to us)

See: Genesis 12:10 The journey to Egypt

a. Egypt Fears

b. Egypt Self-Centered

Abrams concern of what’s going to happen to me!

c. Egypt Troubles

The Egyptian woman was a major issue, but we also fail to realize that Lot also went to Egypt with them.

Mention: Genesis 13:10 Eventually we see Isaac seeking for what he saw in experienced in Egypt

• The Epitome of Faith

When Abraham took Isaac his son up to offer him unto the LORD he was releasing all he had:

Point: In Isaac was all the promises of God unto him

Abraham literally said to God I believe in you and you can do anything even raise up this child again. Besides, did not God bring him out of a dead womb?

Practical Truths:

• There was no blessings without testing

• One’s faith must not rest in the gifts, but the Giver

• It will be easier to trust in Egypt then the LORD

The story within the story is prophetic:

See: Genesis 22:2 Into the land of Moriah

1. The Prophetic Place

See: 2 Chronicles 3:1 It near the place in which Solomon would build the Temple

See: Hebrews 13:12 without the gate

2. The Prophetic Person

This place Mt. Moriah were Jesus would be crucified

I have personally walked the Via Delarosa down that winding path to what was at that time just outside the gate of the wall and physically saw the place call Golgotha “A place of a skull”

Genesis 22:6 Abraham laying that wood upon Isaac is even a picture of Christ bearing the cross

Several Things:

• He chose the place of His death Genesis 22:9 The place God told him of

• He chose the method of His death See: Isaiah 50:4-10

• He chose the day of His death Mention: Daniel 9:24-27 The 483 years from the going forth of the command to rebuild Jerusalem 445 BC to the Messiah being cut off takes us to the day of the crucifixion.

See: Genesis 22:8, 13-14

3. The Prophetic Propitiation

Mention: Romans 3:24-25 Justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus whom God sent forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood.

Also: 1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent forth His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Point: That ram in the thicket was a picture put forth of the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world. Ref. John 1:29
