The Dangers of Being Apathetic Christian

Text: Matthew 7:21-23

Intro: What is the Apathetic?

Apathetic, according to merriam-webster

- having or showing little or no feeling or emotion: spiritless

- having little or no interest or concern: indifferent

I. I never knew you (Verse 23 b)

a. They are not doers of Gods words.

James 1:22 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

b. They are anti-Christ

1 John 4:3 - And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of

antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

c. They are not truly crucified with Christ

Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by

faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

II. Depart from Me ( Verse 23 c)

a. They are excluded - Some people never realize that they themselves are the source of their own rejection because they refuse

to follow the principles of Christian living. “The scripture said If you love me keep my commandments” (John 14:15)

b. They denied the offer - Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto

your souls.( Matthew 11:29)

III. Cast into the lake of fire

a. The final destination of sinners

Rev. 20:15- And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

b. A place of torment (Luke 16.23-28) (The Story of Lazarus)

V.23 begins: “And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments.”

V. 24 ends with these words: “. . . I am tormented in this flame.”

V.25 ends: “. . . and thou art tormented.”

V. 28 ends: “. . . this place of torment.”
