Summary: Being freed in Christ

LIVING AN INDEPENDENCE LIFE

Jn 8:36 “36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

INTRO: We live in a country that has given us the privilege in knowing what independence means. Many of us do not know the joy it is to be able to live in a nation that has given us more than what many other citizens in other countries could ever imagine.

But also, we have been given independence in a way many have forgotten that we cherish. A spiritual independence through Christ Jesus has been given to all of us. For you see, all of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him would be saved.

I. A LIFE OF SIN

1. Sin had us as slaves

1) Rom 6:17 “17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.”

2. The Things we wanted to do because of sin was impossible

1) Rom 7:15 “15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. “

3. No will power could resist the sin in us

1) Titus 3:3 “3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.”

II. AN INDEPENDENCE LIFE

1. In Jesus Christ we are free

1) Jn 8:36 “36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

2. Sin doesn’t enslaves us

1) Gal 4:7 “7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.”

3. Where the Spirit is, there is freedom

1) 2 Cor 3:17 “17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
