Message Point: We must remember what God has done for us!
Focus Passage: Mark 8:1-10, 14-21
Supplemental Passage: "It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. "When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth." And God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth." (Genesis 9:14-17 NASB)
Introduction: Americans have such a short attention span. In 2013, the average attention span of an adult American was 8 seconds. In 2000, it was 13 seconds. No wonder folks have such have a hard time paying attention in school and in church.
I. Participating in Miracles
a. They passed out the bread
b. They collected the left-overs
c. They were right in the middle of what Jesus was doing
II. Bemoaning current situation
a. They were on the boat with only one loaf
b. They were wondering how they were going to have enough to eat
c. Looking at the current situation instead at Jesus
III. Caution from Jesus
a. Jesus said to “beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of Herod
b. Pride, hypocrisy, and worldly-mindedness, which constituted the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees, ruin the major part of the world.
c. Herodians probably were distinguished for irreligion, sensuality, and corrupt living
Application/Invitation: Have you forgotten what God has done for you? Have you forgotten what God has done for your through others?
