Summary: We walk in a day when ANGER and WRATH seem to reign. Anger is like an infection, it will fester until it blows up and hurts many.

ANGER FESTERS...

GOD TEACH ME TO TAKE THE HEAT OUT OF MY PROBLEMS...

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

DO YOU HAVE A PROGRESS REPORT SYSTEM?

I. ANGER ALWAYS FESTERS:

HOW DID I GET THIS WAY?

DO WE MENTALITY EVALUATE AWAY THE BLESSINGS...

HOW DO YOU CHANGE A MAN THAT WALKED AND TALKED WITH JESUS ON A DAILY

BASIS... HE KNEW MIRACLES? HE ATE THE BOYS BISCUITS AND FISH?

HE SAW THE BLIND PEOPLE SEE? HE SAW CRIPPLE PEOPLE JUMP, RUN AND FILLED

WITH JOY... HOW DO YOU TURN A DISCIPLE INTO A JUDAS?

A.Some said: IF JESUS KNEW... Jesus would known this SINNER...

B. Weeping, washing, drying... AND KISSING...

THE KISS OF THE ANOINTING...

Luke 7:36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the

Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.

37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat

in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe

them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man,

if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him:

for she is a sinner.

C. DO WE UNDERSTAND WHAT UNRESOLVED ANGER CAN DO?

Never under-estimate the power of resentment, hate, jealousy, excessive tempers,

PROTRACTED BITTERNESS and ANGER CAN DO...

Mark 14:3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came

a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box,

and poured it on his head.

4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of

the ointment made?

5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor.

And they murmured against her.

D. JUDAS NEVER WAS MOTIVATED BY THE VISION OF THE CROSS...

Matthew 26:7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment,

and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

E. HOW DID JUDAS TRAVEL FROM FRIEND OF JESUS... TO FOE?

Matthew 26:14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted

with him for thirty pieces of silver.

16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

F. JUDAS WAS NOT ALWAYS ONE THAT WOULD BETRAY?

Did you know you can not have LIGHT without having HEAT?

What on earth CAN TURN a loving, loyal person from FRIEND TO FOE?

H. God teach me to take the heat out of external and internal problems.

I. EXAMPLE: EARL PITTS... ANGER FESTERS...

There was a farm boy from MISSOURI that was raised by a good Christian family.

He attended high school and was a member of the FFA, Future Farmers of America.

He joined the army and thrived as a soldier. He arose to the rank of a CAPTAIN...

His parents and his wife noted: HE WAS A GOOD MAN... EARL PITTS...

EARL got out of the army and graduated LAW SCHOOL.

In 1983 Earl Pitts started working for the FBI... and in 1987 was assigned to the NEW YORK

OFFICE. HIS SALARY WAS $25,000.00 and he owed his school debt, other debts, and

living in New York was very expensive.

The MORALE in New York was very low, FBI officers were cheating and lying about

their expense accounts. EARL PITTS BECAME ENRAGED AND ANGRY ...

HIS RAGE LEAD HIM TO FEELING OVERWHELMED...

PITTS SAW THE ANSWER OF HIS RAGE TO THE FBI AND HIS BOSS...

HE COULD TURN TO THE SOVIET UNION TO BE A KGB SPY...

He could make BIG MONEY and GET BACK at his BOSS...

Soon PITTS MADE $224,000...

Pitts was caught and tried: 27 years in prison for HIGH TREASON...

THE JUDGE ASK: EARL PITTS, HOW DID YOU GO FROM A HERO TO TREASON:

EARL PITTS ANSWERED: I GAVE IN TO AN UNREASONABLE ANGER...

ANGER WILL ALWAYS FESTER...

II. THE VOICE OF THE ANGRY WILL ALWAYS DRIVE LOVE TO SOME DISTANT FIELD.

PEOPLE RUN FAR TO AVOID THE ANGRY VOICE...

ANGER SHATTERS... ANGER SEPERATES...

A. ESAU angry at JACOB... Esau vows: WHEN DAD DIES --- I WILL DESTROY IN ANGER...

The voice of anger will stop THE FAMILY REUNION...

Genesis 27:45 Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast

done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you

both in one day?

B. ANGER:

Anger comes out of two words:

1. Affliction

2. Grief

A strong feeling of displeasure, antagonism...

Rage, fury, unfair, mean,

Reaction that one tries to SELF-JUSTIFY.

Red cheeks, raised blood-pressure,

SUGGEST A LOSE OF SELF-CONTROL

Ecclesiastes 7:9 Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

Proverbs 27:4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

C. WRATH:

intense emotional estate that is over a period of time.

Strong VENGEFUL...

Suggest the need to PUNISH, chastisement,

D. ANGER AND WRATH PRODUCES THE GALL OF BITTERNESS, THE ROOT OF BITTERNESS:

A symbol of affliction, misery, servitude,

The pass over was of bitterness... the sufferings of Christ Jesus.

Pain, suffering,

My opinion we often us GENDERED WORDS in the Bible that might be better served

to use NON-GENDERED WORDS...

Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

SPOUSE DO NOT ALLOW BITTERNESS IN YOUR HOME...

III. ANGER CAN BECOME SIN AND LEAD TO BITTER RUTS THAT TRAP AND

GROW INTO DEATH CHAMBERS...

A. ANGER:

THE EMOTION OF INSTANT DISPLEASURE ON ACCOUNT OF SOMETHING

THAT GAINS OUR ATTENTION...

Anger is part of human nature, in itself it is not sinful ...

B. CAN BECOME SINFUL WHEN YOUR ANGER IS CAUSELESS, EXCESSIVE,

OR PROTRACTED...

1. ANGER WITHOUT A BIBLICAL CAUSE WILL ALWAYS LEAD TO TROUBLE...

Matthew 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause

shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in

danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

2. ANGER --- ADD A D...DANGER

ANGER THAT CONTROLS THE INDIVIDUAL OPENS THE DOOR FOR DANGER...

Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy

communication out of your mouth.

3. ANGER OVER LONG TERM BECOMES WRATH...

PROTRACTED ANGER WILL ALWAYS LEAD TO SELF-INFLICTED WOUNDS...

MENTAL --- EMOTIONAL --- SPIRITUAL

Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

4. PROTRACTED ANGER BOILS DOWN TO UNFORGIVENESS...

Luke 6:36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive,

and ye shall be forgiven:

IV. WOLFING DOWN YOURSELF?

BITTERNESS IS A RESULTS OF UNFORGIVENESS AND ANGER?

A. When you marry a family, you take all the family members as your own...

anger, bitterness, wrath, rage, cruel tongue... and others...

Hebrews 12:12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let

it rather be healed.

14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up

trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

B. IN WISHFUL THINKING by FREDERICK BUECHNER:

THE SKELETON IS YOU!

Of the seven most deadly sins,

ANGER IS PROBABLY THE MOST FUN.

To lick your wounds,

To smack your lips over grievances long past,

To roll over your tongue the prospect of bitter confrontations still to come,

To savor to the last toothsome morsel of both the pain you are given,

And the pain you are going to give back,

IN MANY WAYS IT IS A FEASTFIT FOR A KING,

The chief draw back is that what YOU ARE WOLFING DOWN

IS YOURSELF.

THE SKELETON AT THE FEAST IS YOU!

Job 10:1 My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the

bitterness of my soul.

Acts 8:22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine

heart may be forgiven thee.

23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which

ye have spoken come upon me.

V. WE MUST DEVELOP HEALTHY RELEASES AND VENTS FOR OUR ANGER...

SEE ANGER AS ONE LETTER FROM DANGER...

Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

27 Neither give place to the devil.

Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put

away from you, with all malice:

32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for

Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

VI. STUDY WHAT THE WORD OF GOD TEACHES, KNOW AND APPLY

IT DAILY...

Proverbs 27:4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

Psalm 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for

a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Psalm 37:8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

Psalm 145:8 The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

Psalm 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit

than he that taketh a city.

Proverbs 15:18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit

than he that taketh a city.

Proverbs 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over

a transgression.

Proverbs 21:14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.

Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put

away from you, with all malice:

32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's

sake hath forgiven you.

Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy

communication out of your mouth.

Matthew 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever

shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger

of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council:

but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought

against thee;

24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then

come and offer thy gift.

25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the

adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

THE OLDER BROTHER'S REACTION:

Luke 15:28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.

CONCLUSION: We need Godly wisdom to help keep us cool, calm, and collected.

Father teach your children the beauty of a quiet spirit.

Transform us into YOUR PLAN AND PURPOSE... Help us keep our emotions and attitudes

in check to align with the Word of God.

Teach us to VENT PROPERLY and to THROW AWAY everything that frustrated, angered,

agitated, irritated, our mouth, heart, or attitudes. God teach me to take the heat out of

external and internal problems.
