Summary: God's plan is much bigger than just staying in the boat... launch out into the deep... The storms may rage, but there is a work on the OTHER SIDE.

IN MY BOAT, HEAR THE CALL TO THE OTHER SIDE?

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

Some of the fodder for this lesson adapted from Wilfredo De Jesus, (Pastor Choco),

Chicago, Illinois.

I. DO WE UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT?

BETWEEN PASSION AND A CALLING?

Galatians 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

A. There is a difference between SYMPATHY and COMPASSION...

SYMPATHY is a box of KLEENEX and a BOWL OF CHICKEN SOUP...

COMPASSION is pity inclined to be merciful and TAKING THE LOAD AND HELPING BEAR IT...

B. There is a big difference in PASSION and a DIVINE CALLING...

Passion fades as the mood changes and as difficulties come.

A DIVIINE CALLING BURNS FOREVER...

Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name.

But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with

forbearing, and I could not stay.

C. THE TEST OF THE THIRD DAY? DEDICATION VS COMMITMENT...

GOD IS ASKING HIS MAN TO STEP UP IN FAITH... BLIND OBEDIENCE... COMPLETE TRUST

Genesis 22:2 And he (GOD) said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee

into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell

thee of.

[3] And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him,

and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which

God had told him.

[4] Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

D. To best illustrate the difference between DEDICATION and COMMITMENT I often go to a lesson.

The PIG and the CHICKEN woke up early one morning on the farm.

After a while they HAD A DISCUSSION on WHAT THEY WOULD HAVE FOR BREAKFAST?

The CHICKEN proposed to HAVE EGGS and BACON...

The breakfast of BACON and EGGS had a much different meaning to the CHICKEN than to the PIG.

EGGS would be the chicken giving. The BACON would mean A TOTAL COMMITMENT for the PIG.

Often in the church we see the difference between DEDICATION and COMMITMENT...

II. THE DIFFERENCE IN SYMPATHY VS COMPASSION, PASSION VS A DIVINE CALLING,

DEDICATION VS COMMITMENT, PRAYER PARTNER VS PRAYER WARRIOR...

COMES IN A TRUST SO COMPLETE THAT OBEDIENCE IS UNCONDITIONAL AND A

BOLD STRATEGY... A PLAN... SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM...

A. WHAT IS FAITH? AM I READY FOR THE BATTLE?

B. CREATIVE USE OF CONFLICT... GOOD COMES OUT OF BAD...

Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went

both of them together.

C. GOD KNEW ABRAHAM'S HEART... BUT ABRAHAM HAD TO LEARN A GREAT LESSON...

James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon

the altar?

III. THERE WERE TWO BOATS, A SHORE, A SEA, AND FISH... PEOPLE...

JESUS CARED ABOUT THE PEOPLE ...

WHY DID JESUS PICK THAT BOAT? IS JESUS IN YOUR BOAT?

A. JESUS LOVED TO FIND PEOPLE... HIS MINISTRY WAS ABOUT PEOPLE...

B. The Pastor said: I WOULD LOVE PASTORING IF IT WEREN'T FOR PEOPLE?

Jonah got sick of PEOPLE and loved the GOURD PLANT... his COMFORT ZONE...

C. THE PEOPLE WANTED TO HEAR THE WORD... JESUS WANTS TO GET IN YOUR BOAT.

Luke 5:1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood

by the lake of Gennesaret,

[2] And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing

their nets.

[3] And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a

little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

D. THERE WERE TWO BOATS: ONE BELONGED TO PETER... Peter was a successful fisherman.

He had a beautiful home near the LOCAL ASSEMBLY...

Today the CATHOLIC CHURCH AS BUILD GLASS BOTTOM CHURCH OVER PETER'S HOUSE.

E. THE SHORE REPRESENTS THE WORLD, SHALLOWNESS...

F. JESUS HAD A PLAN, HE KNEW WHICH BOAT TO CHOOSE...

PETER'S BOAT WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT... PETER LET JESUS CLIMB INTO HIS BOAT.

G. JESUS HAD PEOPLE TO THRUST HIM OUT IN THE DEEP...

FRIENDS WE HAVE TO LEAVE THE SAFETY OF THE SHORE...

H. Listen to the LESSONS OF THE MASTER...

IV. OUR CALL IS BEYOND THE SAFETY OF THE SHORE, THE CHALLENGE IS TO GO OUT INTO

THE DEEP. LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME WHEN JESUS GETS IN YOUR BOAT.

A. Jesus choose PETER'S BOAT... EVER WONDER WHY?

B. Jesus had a plan for PETER'S BOAT... THE PLAN WAS MUCH LARGER THAN HIS BOAT...

Luke 5:[4] Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your

nets for a draught.

[5] And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless

at thy word I will let down the net.

[6] And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

[7] And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help

them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

C. The PLAN Jesus had could not be accomplished on the shore, nor in THE SHALLOWNESS

of the safety of the shore.

D. PETER WAS READY TO CALL IT A DAY... some days are not good fishing days?

JESUS is not a fisherman... Jesus is a CARPENTER... is Jesus bold to tell them what to do?

E. GO OUT INTO THE DEEP... NOT DEPENDING ON THE ANCHOR...

MASTER, WE HAVE TOILED ALL NIGHT... HEAR THE FRUSTRATION?

WE HAVE TAKEN NOTHING...

F. Nevertheless AT THY WORD...

G. THEY SHARE WITH THEIR PARTNERS IN THE DEEP...

THE SECRET WAS JESUS HAD BEEN IN THE BOAT...

V. SOONER OR LATER YOUR SHIP WILL FACE A STORM, MAKE SURE JESUS IS

ON BOARD...

IN LIFE THERE HAS TO BE A SEPERATION OF THE BOAT FROM THE SHORE...

GOOD NEWS: GOD IS NOT DEAD... GOD'S PLAN MAY TAKE YOU FAR FROM THE

SHORE INTO DANGEROUS WATERS...

A. LET US GO TO THE OOTHER SIDE... WE CAN NOT ALWAYS STAY IN THE COMFORT

ZONE, GOD HAS MORE... ON THE OTHER SIDE...

B. IT WAS A GOOD THING JESUS WAS IN THE SHIP AS THEY TRAVELED OUT INTO THE

DEEP...

C. THERE IS MORE AT JEOPARDY THAN JUST OUR SHIP...

THERE WAS ALSO LITTLE SHIPS...

Mark 4:35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over

unto the other side.

[36] And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And

there were also with him other little ships.

[37] And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

[38] And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say

unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

[39] And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind

ceased, and there was a great calm.

[40] And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

[41] And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even

the wind and the sea obey him?

D. WE ARE NOT ON THE SHORE, WE ARE IN THE DEEP...

NOT JUST A STORM, A GREAT STORM ... GREAT STORM OF WIND...

E. IT IS NOT HOW MUCH WATER YOUR BOAT IS IN...

IT IS HOW MUCH WATER IS IN YOUR BOAT...

THE BOAT WAS FULL OF WATER...

F. SOMEONE HAD ENOUGH SENSE TO WAKE UP THE MASTER...

G. Jesus is ON-BOARD, the storm rages, wake up the MASTER.

H. WHY BE FEARFUL? WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?

MAYBE ANYONE IN THE BOAT COULD HAVE STOOD UP AND SAID:

PEACE BE STILL...

I. COME GREAT CALM OF GOD...

CONCLUSION:

Can we hear God's call to the OTHER SIDE?

Are we willing to push out from the safety of the shore into the DEEP?

There were two boats... there is no record of Jesus in the other boat.

INVITE JESUS ON BOARD...

THE SEA?

The boat? The shore? The separation from the shore? THE STORM? The fish?

My friend, Jesus has a plan for you and your boat.

Jesus will care for you, trust Him, launch out in the DEEP.
