Stand Up - Preach Jesus - Sit Down!

turn with me to

1 Corinthians 1:23-25

23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men

a young preacher seeking advice on how to properly preach asked an older preacher who he had a lot of respect for what he should do to preach better messages the older preacher told him to "Stand Up - Preach Jesus - and, Sit Down!"

I say that was good advice!

and that is what I'm going to try and do today

stand up preach Jesus and sit down

The Apostle Paul tells the Romans and us, in

Romans 10:9

9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved

In Matthew 16:15-19

15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

In Acts 2:36

36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

I preach that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior!

I preach that Salvation is through Jesus Christ, and Christ alone!

In Acts 4:11-12

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

I preach Jesus Christ, as the only source for Life!

The first Adam brought death - the second Adam (Jesus Christ) brought Life!

The beloved Disciple/Apostle John, in

John 1:4

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

I preach Jesus Christ, as the Christian true believer’s only guide!

Just as Moses and Joshua were guides for ancient Israel, so Jesus Christ, is our guide today!

The psalmist, Asaph, in

Psalm 73:22-26

22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee. 23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. 24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. 26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

I preach Jesus Christ, as our great example!

The Disciple/Apostle Peter tells us in

1 Peter 2:21

21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

As I begin to close, this morning, we need to listen to Almighty God’s "still small voice" and not just some stranger’s voice!

In

1 John 2:5-6

5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

I preach Jesus Christ, as our intercessor!

The writer of Hebrews, in

Hebrews 7:25

25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them

The late great American writer of religious and inspirational poetry, Helen Steiner Rice (1900 - 1981), says things well in her poem entitled, "God’s Love:"

***" God’s love is like an island

***In life’s ocean vast and wide -

***A peaceful, quiet shelter

***From the restless, rising tide...

***God’s love is like an anchor

***When the angry billows roll -

***A mooring in the storms of life,

***A stronghold for the soul...

***God’s love is like a fortress

***And we seek protection there

***When the waves of tribulation

***Seem to drown us in despair...

***God’s love is like a harbor

***Where our souls can find sweet rest

***From the struggle and the tension

***Of life’s fast and futile quest...

***God’s love is like a beacon

***Burning bright with faith and prayer

***And through the changing scenes of life

***We can find a haven there!

Finally, as I sit down, I preach Jesus Christ, as the Christian true believer’s hope!

The Apostle Paul tells the church at Thessalonica and us, in

1 Thessalonians 2:19

19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

Without Jesus Christ, there is no hope in this life

there is no hope in the beyond -

there is no hope period because christ is our hope today and always

so whatever your facing today

Why not stand up - take Jesus - and, live forever with Him - safe and secure in your mansion just over the hilltop - in that Heavenly home not built by hands?

Stand Up - Preach Jesus - Sit Down!

May Almighty God richly and abundantly bless each and every one of you!

let's pray!
