Summary: The Passover Meal enriched the Israelites both spiritually and physically. If there are spiritual blessings you need from God, if there are also material and physical blessings you need from God, the Communion Table is the best place to go.

You are about to partake of a meal that will change your life. In Exodus 12, the Lord gave the Israelites instructions on the preparation and eating of the Passover meal. After that meal, their story changed. Today as you partake of the Passover Meal; the Holy Communion, your story will change in the mighty name of Jesus.

Any food that comes directly from God, any food that has the life and power of God in it is not an ordinary meal. In 1 Kings 19:5-8, God through an angel prepared and sent a meal to Elijah. The meal in itself was something common – bread and a jar of water, but because that common meal was prepared and sent by God, it carried supernatural power. It gave Elijah enough strength to carry him for forty days and forty nights.

We know that after some days bread goes stale. But in Exodus 16, God sent the Israelites a special type of bread from heaven which they called manna. The bringing down of bread from heaven was a big miracle in itself. But there was also another unique and unusual thing about this special bread sent from God. They were able to preserve it for generations without it going stale, gathering mould, getting rotten and bad (Exodus 16:32, Hebrews 9:4). If you look through the Guinness Book of Records you will see people who made it to the Guinness Book of Records because they baked the biggest bread and cake ever. But there’s no record of anyone who has been able to discover the recipe for bread that never goes stale, bread that can last for generations.

This is why when we are to take a meal that comes directly from God or a meal that God himself instituted or established (Matthew 26:26, 1 Corinthians 11:23), we should not take it casually like we are eating the same kind of bread we buy from the supermarket. What we are about to partake of is a blessed meal, a very spiritual meal, a meal with supernatural power.

In Exodus 12, we see that the Passover Meal was a very significant meal in the lives of the Israelites. Five major things happened in their lives as a result of the Passover Meal:

1. It changed their time and season (Exodus 12:1-2)

When they took this meal they were not in the first month of the year. It wasn’t the beginning of the year. But God told them this month you are going to take the Passover meal, will be the beginning of the year for you. So the meal affected the time and season they were in, it brought about a change in their calendar, in their time and season.

In Daniel 2:21, Daniel described God as the One that changes times and seasons. Have you been going through a dry season, a difficult season? A season were you have been reproached, mocked and ridiculed? Has your family, marriage, business, career being going through a wilderness season were nothing good seems to be happening, rather it is one problem after the other? Today by the power of the Passover meal, by the power that is in the Communion instituted by God not man, your time and season will change.

If you believe you are that person whose time and season will change today, if you believe you are that person that God will turn your season of mourning to dancing, your season of sorrow to joy, your season of lack to abundance, your season of sickness to good health, your season of oppression to total freedom and liberty, can you shout a big HALLELUJAH!

2. It became a special shield of protection for them (Exodus 12:12-13)

That night that the Israelites took the Passover Meal, their own houses were supernaturally hidden from the evil that was passing through the land of Egypt. That same night, the spirit of death went into the houses of all the Egyptians, but didn’t come to the house of any Israelite. The Communion you are about to partake of is going to turn into a special shield of protection for you, your entire family and household. Death will look for your house but will not be able to trace it. Exodus 12:12-13 makes us understand that addresses of people are given out in the spiritual realm. Addresses were given to the spirit of death that night, but not one Israelites address was on the list given to the spirit of death when it was sent on an operation. Carriers of evil load such as accidents, death, poverty, sickness, failure, barrenness and all manner of evil load will not know your address. They will pass your street, your office or your school many times, but they will not see your own home, office or room.

Just as the spirits of the kingdom of darkness are given peoples names and addresses when they are sent on an operation or demonic assignment, angels of God are also given people’s names and addresses when sent on a divine assignment. The angel Gabriel was given the location of Mary when he was sent to visit her. I pray that after you partake of the Communion, the angel of good tidings, the angel that bring answers to prayers, the angels carrying blessings will be given your name and address. But whatever destructive plague, evil arrow, deadly pestilence or snare is out there and moving around will not come to your dwelling place. This is why you must take the communion not like you have just come here to eat bread and drink bought from a supermarket or on the streets. You must take the communion with faith and seriousness knowing that you are about to partake of a meal that will put the mark of the blood of Jesus on you and on everything that belongs to you. The mark that will become a special shield of protection for you to shield you from evil eyes, evil hands, evil people, evil arrows, evil plans.

3. It brought about the fulfilment of God’s promise

Is there a promise of God that you have been holding on to? Is there something in God’s word that you have been believing God for? Have you been believing and holding on for one year, two years, five years, ten years or fifteen years and nothing has happened. After partaking of the Communion today, you will see the fulfilment of the promise of God in your life.

In Genesis 15:13-14, God made a promise to Abraham. God told Abraham that his descendants would be strangers in a country not their own, they would be enslaved and mistreated for 400 years. But afterward, God would arise and punish the nation they serve as slaves and they would come out with great possession. This word, this promise of God was fulfilled the night of the Passover Meal.

So if you are here and you have been saying maybe the promise of healing is not for me I have prayed and believed and nothing has happened. Or you are saying the promise of promotion, fruitfulness or increase is not for you, you have prayed, believed and held on to the promise of God and nothing has happened for years. If you are in that situation today, I want to encourage you not to give up. Have faith that by the power in the Passover Meal, the power in the Communion, the power in the body and blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the promise of God will be fulfilled in your life today. God is not a man to lie (Numbers 23:19). God can’t make a promise and then forget His promise or fail to keep His promise. The promises of God may tarry, but they will surely come to pass (Habakkuk 2:3). Those promises of God that have tarried are going to be fulfilled today as you partake of God’s supernatural meal; the body and blood of Jesus.

4. God visited their enemies (Exodus 12:12, Exodus 12:29-30)

When God visits the home of a child of God, wonderful things happen. The person is blessed, the person has a testimony. In Genesis 21:1-6, when the Lord visited Sarah, her mouth was filled with laughter, she had a big testimony.

But when God says He is going to pass through the house of the enemies of the children of God, He’s going to visit them, what they will see is the wrath and judgement of God. Your enemies will see the judgement of God today. When the Lord passed through and visited the homes of the Egyptians, the Lord oppressed their oppressors, the Lord tormented their tormentors, the Lord mocked their mockers; He put to shame those that had been mocking them. Those forces and powers of darkness that don’t want you to go, that don’t want you to progress, that don’t want you to serve God, that don’t want you to get to your Promised Land, will see the judgement of God after you partake of the Communion. The Egyptians you see today, you will never see them again after today’s communion (Exodus 14:13-14). Whether it is an Egyptian of poverty, sickness, stagnation, failure, barrenness, sinful habits and desires, the Lord will remove every such Egyptian from your life.

The Communion delivered the Israelites from the stronghold and power of Egypt. Egypt represents spiritual deception (Exodus 16:2-3). A place the enemy deceives you into believing this is the place you should be. This was why even when the Israelites had left Egypt, you would see them at times wanting to go back to Egypt because the enemy was still deceiving them that Egypt was a better place to be. Meanwhile Egypt is nothing but a place of bondage and captivity, a place of suffering and pain, a place that keeps you from truly serving God.

As you partake of the Communion, your spiritual eyes will be opened (Luke 24:30-31) and you will be set free from every spiritual deception. Your spiritual eyes will be opened to see every man, woman, friend, relationship, job, business or contract the enemy wants to use to deceive you. You will see everything and everyone that represents Egypt in your life and you will be delivered from their trap tonight.

5. It resulted in their requests being met (Exodus 12:35-36, Exodus 3: 21-22)

After taking the Passover meal, the Israelites approached the Egyptians and asked them for some specific things. Everything they asked for, they were given.

The Passover meal, the Holy Communion is not an ordinary meal. When you take the communion there is divine favour upon you to ask and get what you are asking for. Today you will get what you ask for in Jesus mighty name. Today you have the opportunity to ask from the One who has much more gold, silver and clothing than the Egyptians. You have the opportunity to ask from the one that can give you even much more than the gold, silver and clothing that the Egyptians gave to the Israelites because you are under the New Covenant that came through the shedding of the blood of Jesus not the blood of a lamb. You can receive better promises, greater blessings because in your own case you are not like the Israelites that were blessed through the Egyptians, you will be blessed directly by the One that says the cattle on a thousand hills belongs to Him (Psalm 50:10). The One that owns the earth and everything in it (Psalm 24:1).

The Passover night was a night of great plunder; a night that all the wealth the Egyptians had been acquiring and storing up for years was transferred to the Israelites (Proverbs 13:22, Proverbs 27:13-17). The Communion of today will result in the transference of wealth for somebody.

In summary, the Passover Meal enriched the Israelites both spiritually and physically. So if there are spiritual blessings you need from God, now is the time to ask Him for it. Do you need peace, deliverance from heavy yokes and burdens that have been weighing you down, deliverance from the wicked plans of your enemies, do you need divine protection? All these spiritual blessings are attached to the Passover Meal; the Holy Communion. Are there also physical and material blessing that you need like clothing, silver, gold, money? They are also attached to the Passover Meal.

The Holy Communion is simply a table prepared by the Lord, a table with food that a carries the life and the power of God and nothing whatsoever is lacking on that table. When God is the One that prepares a table, you won’t have complaints like the table cloth is dirty or He forgot to put the dishing spoon, or the food wasn’t even enough. The table prepared by the Lord is the richest table ever. Everything you need is on the table. He doesn’t forget or overlook any of your needs when preparing this table. The big things you need are on the table prepared by the Lord. The small things you need are also on the table of the Lord. The things you need that you can’t even discuss with anyone are on the table prepared by the Lord. The things you need that you don’t even know you need are also on this table. That is why God deliberately sets this table for you in the presence of your enemies (Psalm 23:5). So they can see right before their eyes a table that has been prepared for you that has everything you need, everything that can enrich you spiritually and physically, everything they have been fighting and planning to see that you don’t have.

With this understanding of the power in the Passover Meal, the power and benefits that go with taking the Holy Communion, let us approach the Lord’s Table to be blessed and enriched spiritually and physically.
