To show that we need to endure by praying when we're suffering at unbelievers's hands
IV. TEXT:
Psalms 22:7
All who see me laugh at me and mock me; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
V. THESIS:
Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for I am counted worthy to suffer for Your Name's Sake.
Acts 5:41
So they went out from the presence of the council (Sanhedrin), rejoicing that they were being counted worthy [dignified by the indignity] to suffer shame and be exposed to disgrace for [the sake of] His name.
1 Peter 4:16
But if [one is ill-treated and suffers] as a Christian [which he is contemptuously called], let him not be ashamed, but give glory to God that he is [deemed worthy to suffer] in this name.

A. What are the insults we receive from unbelievers?
1. laughed at me
2. mock me
3. shoot out the lip
4. shake the head
"Psalms 22:7
All who see me laugh at me and mock me; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,"
1. laughed at me
a. Some instances where the LORD JESUS was laughed at:
1) When the LORD JESUS said the dead is just sleeping
Matthew 9:24
He said, Go away; for the girl is not dead but sleeping. And they laughed and jeered at Him.
2) When they put a crown of thorns on His head
Matthew 27:29
And, weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on His head and put a reed (staff) in His right hand. And kneeling before Him, they made sport of Him, saying, Hail (greetings, good health to You, long life to You), King of the Jews!
3) When they spoke abusively and jeered at Him
Matthew 27:39
And those who passed by spoke reproachfully and abusively and jeered at Him, wagging their heads,
4) When they are making a sport of Him
Mark 15:20
And when they had [finished] making sport of Him, they took the purple [robe] off of Him and put His own clothes on Him. And they led Him out [of the city] to crucify Him.
5) When they're using harsh and insolent language towards Him
Mark 15:29
And those who passed by kept reviling Him and reproaching Him abusively in harsh and insolent language, wagging their heads and saying, Aha! You Who would destroy the temple and build it in three days,
6) When people are lovers of money, they sneered and ridiculed the LORD
Luke 16:14
Now the Pharisees, who were covetous and lovers of money, heard all these things [taken together], and they began to sneer at and ridicule and scoff at Him.
7) When they treated Him with contempt, scoffed at and ridiculed Him, even dressing Him up in bright and gorgeous apparel
Luke 23:11
And Herod, with his soldiers, treated Him with contempt and scoffed at and ridiculed Him; then, dressing Him up in bright and gorgeous apparel, he sent Him back to Pilate.
2. mock me
a. When do people mock us?
1) When they are full of pride and contempt
Psalms 31:18
Let the lying lips be silenced, which speak insolently against the [consistently] righteous with pride and contempt.
2) Their lifestyle is not according to the bible
Job 16:4
I also could speak as you do, if you were in my stead; I could join words together against you and shake my head at you.
3) When they have massed themselves together and conspired unanimously against me
Job 16:10
[The forces of evil] have gaped at me with their mouths; they have struck me upon the cheek insolently; they massed themselves together and conspired unanimously against me.
b. Forms of mockery:
1) We have been made a song, abhorrence, standing aloof, spitting
Job 30:9-11
And now I have become their song; yes, I am a byword to them.
They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, and do not refrain from spitting in my face or at the sight of me.
For God has loosed my bowstring and afflicted and humbled me; they have cast off the bridle [of restraint] before me.
2) Made us a form of entertainment like a sport, opening wide the mouth, putting out the tongue. When they themselves deserve all of these treatment because of their lifestyle.
Isaiah 57:4
Against whom do you make sport and take your delight? Against whom do you open wide your mouth and put out your tongue? Are you not yourselves the children of transgression, the offspring of deceit—
3) They asked themselves. Spitting, slapping, strucking with the fists, saying "Prophesy to us!"
Matthew 26:66-68
What do you think now? They answered, He deserves to be put to death.
Then they spat in His face and struck Him with their fists; and some slapped Him in the face,
Saying, Prophesy to us, You Christ (the Messiah)! Who was it that struck You?
3. shoot out the lip

You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the heads among the people.

I have become also a reproach and a taunt to others; when they see me, they shake their heads.
Matthew 26:39
And going a little farther, He threw Himself upon the ground on His face and prayed saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will [not what I desire], but as You will and desire.

And those who passed by spoke reproachfully and abusively and jeered at Him, wagging their heads,
And they said, You Who would tear down the sanctuary of the temple and rebuild it in three days, rescue Yourself from death. If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.
Mark 11:29-32
Jesus told them, I will ask you a question. Answer Me, and then I will tell you by what [sort of] authority I do these things.
Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men? Answer Me.
And they reasoned and argued with one another, If we say, From heaven, He will say, Why then did you not believe him?
But [on the other hand] can we say, From men? For they were afraid of the people, because everybody considered and held John actually to be a prophet.
ILLUSTRATION:
All the disciples never left JESUS because He failed to heal, He failed to rescue them, He failed to teach them, He failed in front of temptations, but all the disciples left JESUS when JESUS was in the midst of persecution.
John 16:32
But take notice, the hour is coming, and it has arrived, when you will all be dispersed and scattered, every man to his own home, leaving Me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
IX. CONCLUSION:
1 Peter 4:16
But if [one is ill-treated and suffers] as a Christian [which he is contemptuously called], let him not be ashamed, but give glory to God that he is [deemed worthy to suffer] in this name.
What to do?
ENDURE
Hebrews 12:7
You must submit to and endure [correction] for discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons. For what son is there whom his father does not [thus] train and correct and discipline?
1 Peter 2:20
[After all] what kind of glory [is there in it] if, when you do wrong and are punished for it, you take it patiently? But if you bear patiently with suffering [which results] when you do right and that is undeserved, it is acceptable and pleasing to God.
2 Timothy 4:5
As for you, be calm and cool and steady, accept and suffer unflinchingly every hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fully perform all the duties of your ministry.
2 Timothy 2:10-12
Therefore I [am ready to] persevere and stand my ground with patience and endure everything for the sake of the elect [God’s chosen], so that they too may obtain [the] salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with [the reward of] eternal glory.
The saying is sure and worthy of confidence: If we have died with Him, we shall also live with Him.
If we endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny and disown and reject Him, He will also deny and disown and reject us.
2 Corinthians 1:8
For we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about the affliction and oppressing distress which befell us in [the province of] Asia, how we were so utterly and unbearably weighed down and crushed that we despaired even of life [itself].
