A. GOD's Presence is Placed by JESUS within us
"And you shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the Testimony"
Hebrews 9:5 (Amplified Bible)
Above [the ark] and overshadowing the mercy seat were the representations of the cherubim [winged creatures which were the symbols] of glory. We cannot now go into detail about these things.
The ALEPH-TAV, the Beginning and the End or the Alpha and the Omega, the LORD JESUS CHRIST signature is placed after the word "put". The LORD JESUS Himself placed His Divine Presence within us.
ILLUSTRATION: There's a drawing of a chromosome wherein the middle you can see a "fish" the symbol of CHRISTianity. The LORD JESUS CHRIST has placed this ability in ALL human beings to become a believer. Only the human being rejected the offer because he does not want the plan of GOD in his/her life.
GOD's Presence is symbolized by two (2) elements:
1. Mercy seat
Romans 3:25 (Amplified Bible)
Whom God put forward [before the eyes of all] as a mercy seat and propitiation by His blood [the cleansing and life-giving sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation, to be received] through faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over and ignored former sins without punishment.

2. Ark of the testimony

B. GOD's Presence is within our human spirit
"in the Most Holy Place"
We know that the Most Holy Place now is not on earth anymore, because the curtain was already torn in two, but it is now where the LORD JESUS CHRIST is seated at the right hand of GOD, that's the Most Holy Place and it's in third heaven.
Matthew 27:51 (Amplified Bible)
And at once the curtain of the sanctuary of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; the earth shook and the rocks were split.
Ephesians 2:6 (Amplified Bible)
And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving us joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
Ephesians 1:20-23 (Amplified Bible)
Which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His [own] right hand in the heavenly [places],
Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named [above every title that can be conferred], not only in this age and in this world, but also in the age and the world which are to come.
And He has put all things under His feet and has appointed Him the universal and supreme Head of the church [a headship exercised throughout the church],
Which is His body, the fullness of Him Who fills all in all [for in that body lives the full measure of Him Who makes everything complete, and Who fills everything everywhere with Himself].
The Apostle Paul saw this "third heaven" but he's not sure if it's a vision or physically.
2 Corinthians 12:2 (Amplified Bible)
I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows—was caught up to the third heaven.
The importance of Three (3) in the bible.
The GODHEAD composes of three PERSONS: the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT.
The believer composes of three divisions: human spirit, soul and body.
The Heavens composes of three levels: first, second and third.
The LORD JESUS CHRIST dwells within and among us believers.

The LORD JESUS CHRIST will not dwell in weak flesh but in our spirit who is willing to receive His Presence.

The HOLY SPIRIT dwells within our bodies as His temple.

Now when JESUS is a human being on earth, He cried with His Soul to the FATHER not with His Spirit, (something to think about)

Now My soul is troubled and distressed, and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour [of trial and agony]? But it was for this very purpose that I have come to this hour [that I might undergo it].
The safest way to say is GOD dwells within and among us, covers us, above us, inside and out of us.
