Summary: PEACE IN THE WAITING ROOM OF LIFE

Psalm 37:1-10 PEACE IN THE WAITING ROOM OF LIFE

Psalm 37 comes from David when he is an old man, v. 25. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

I. DAVID'S DISCOVERY V. 1-2 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

The Prosperity Of The Wicked Is:-

A. False - Proverbs 23:5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

B. Fleeting - Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

C. Fake - Ecclesiastes 5:10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

Look at their future!"

D. Forgotten - Ecclesiastes 8:10 And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

Psalms 103:15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. 17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children; 18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

II. DAVID'S DWELLING V. 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

A. Our Dependency - :3a Trust in the LORD B. Our Deeds - :3b and do good

C. Our Dwelling - :3c so shalt thou dwell in the land, D. Our Demands - :3d and verily thou shalt be fed

III. DAVID'S DELIGHT V. 4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Heb. 12:1-3. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

IV. DAVID'S DEPENDENCE V. 5-6 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

A. The Source Of Commitment "Commit thy way unto the LORD"

The word "commit" means "to roll onto". "What a friend we have in Jesus"

Isa. 55:2; Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

1 Pet. 5:7; Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Phil. 4:6-7. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

B. The Serenity Of Commitment "trust also in him;" and He will "bring it to pass",

He will take care of it, in His own time!

Matthew 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

C. The Certainty Of Commitment 6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

Rom. 10:11; For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Psa. 25:2-3. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. 3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.

In the end, faith in God always pays out the greatest dividends!

V. DAVID'S DISCIPLINE V. 7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

A. The Discipline Of Rest - Rest in the LORD

B. The Discipline Of Restraint - and wait patiently for him

We are to patiently wait on the Lord to work out His plan in His timing.

C. The Discipline Of Resolve - fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way

2 Cor. 10:3-5. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

VI. DAVID'S DELIVERANCE V. 8-10 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. 10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

A. Our Calmness - :7a Rest in the LORD

B. Our Composure - :7b and wait patiently for him

C. Our Control - :8a Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: D. Our Contentment - :8b fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

E. Our Confidence - :9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. F. Our Conviction 10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. One day the pleasures of the wicked will end in the pains of Hell. While the problems of the righteous will end in the palaces of Heaven.
