Psalm 121

1. THE LORD OUR KING v. 1 & 2 "A Song of degrees. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth." - Hezekiah under Assyrian threat -

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills"

(a) The Majesty of the Hills Psalm 125 v. 2 "As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever."

(b) The Mystery of the Hills - symbolic of God's presence, God's protection, God's promise Malachi 3 v. 6 "For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed."

(c) The Message of the Hills - made by a God who is:-

Unlimited in power, Unmoving in purpose, and Unchanging in promise

v. 2 "My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth."

2. THE LORD OUR KEEPER v. 5 "The Lord is thy keeper" There will be no:-

(a) Slipping - v. 3 "He will not suffer thy foot to be moved"

Psalm 1 v. 3 "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

(b) Sleeping - v. 3 "He that keepeth thee will not slumber."

Psalm 127 v. 1 " Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain."

(c) Slacking - v. 4 "Shall neither slumber nor sleep"

He will keep us from:-

Weariness - v. 5 "The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand."

Psalm 34 v. 10 "The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing."

Wickedness - v. 7 "The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul." i.e.

Psalm 27 v. 1 - 6 "A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD."

Waywardness - v. 8 "The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore."

3. THE LORD OUR CROWN - v. 8 "And even for evermore" He will keep us:-

Continually

Entirely - 1 Samuel 30 v. 18 & 19 "And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives. And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all."
