THREE QUESTIONS OF JOB ANSWERED BY JESUS Job 14:10-14; 25:4
Job asks three important questions about man. They are so important they need the right answers. I am thankful that Jesus answered them and we can know they have been answered correctly.
I. “MAN DIETH . . . AND WHERE IS HE"? Job 14:10.
A. Jesus answers with the description of two men who died. Luke 16:19-31 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
B. Jesus definitely states ten things concerning the unsaved dead.
1. They are in Hell - vs. 23.
2. They can see - v. 23.
3. They are in torments - v. 23.
4. They can speak - v. 24.
5. They want mercy - v. 24.
6. They want water - v. 24.
7. They are tormented in flame - v. 24.
8. They can remember - v. 25.
9. They can’t have anyone come to them - v. 26.
10. Worst of all they can’t get out - v. 26.
C. HE DEFINITELY STATES FIVE THINGS ABOUT THE PERSON WHO DIES SAVED.
1. They are carried by the angels to the place of the righteous - v. 22.
2. They are comforted - v. 25.
3. They are where Jesus is - John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4. They are in the presence of the Lord - II Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
II. “IF A MAN DIE SHALL HE LIVE AGAIN”? Job 14:14.
A. Jesus answers from John 5:28, 29. For the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear His voice and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
III. “HOW CAN A MAN BE JUSTIFIED WITH GOD”? Job 25:4.
Justified – to be made righteous.
A. Jesus answered that man could only be JUST by receiving Him as our personal savior.
We know John 14:6, and we know John 3:16 but what about:
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
John 11:25, 26 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
B. PAUL TEACHES US THAT WE ARE JUSTIFIED
1. By grace - Romans 3:24. Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
2. By blood - Romans 5:9. Much more than being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
