Psalm 118:24 “This Is the Day the Lord has made”
1. Today’s text is a hymn of thanksgiving for deliverance from the enemies of David.
• The King offers a song of thanksgiving for deliverance and victory in battle. The King says,
"7The LORD is with me he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies
• The People rejoice over what the Lord has done 15Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: "The LORD's right hand has done mighty things! 16The LORD's right hand is lifted high; the LORD's right
hand has done mighty things!"
• The King once again speaks words of Praise 28You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my
God, and I will exalt you. 29Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
2. This Text old as it maybe prophesizes events or references of Holy Week
• "The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone" (v. 22). This refers to the
events of Holy Week.
• Monday of Holy Week: According to Matthew 21, Mark 11, and Luke 19, Jesus returns to
Jerusalem and, seeing shameful practices in the Temple area, he cleanses the Temple.
• Tuesday of Holy Week: According to Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Jesus again returns to Jerusalem where he is confronted by the Temple leadership for what he did the day before. They question his authority. He also teaches extensively, using parables and other forms. There is the parable of the vineyard (cf Mt 21:33-46) and the parable of the wedding banquet, (cf Mt. 22:1). There is also the teaching on paying taxes (cf Mt 22:15) and the rebuke of the
Sadducees who deny the resurrection
• Wednesday of Holy Week: Traditionally this day was called "Spy Wednesday" because it
was on this Wednesday before the crucifixion that Judas conspired to hand Jesus over.
• Holy Thursday: This marks the beginning of the sacred Triduum, or "three days." Earlier this day Jesus had given instructions to the disciples on how to prepare for this most holy meal,
which will be his last supper.
• Good Friday late in the afternoon Jesus is led to Golgotha where he is crucified
3. Today’s text share with us deliverance from and enemy we like David faced, a great enemy, but through the resurrection that enemy has been defeated. The enemy is death.
Resurrection says to me “24This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
- This is the day, That I Believe Jesus is more powerful than death, if so, then he is more powerful than the loss of a job, the sickness, or even all the evils in the world, I believe him so, “ let us rejoice and be glad in it”.
- This is the day, If Jesus has conquered death, as promised, then he can be trusted with everything else he has promised. He promised to be the sacrifice for our sins making us right with God –I believe him so let us be glad and rejoice in it.
- This is the day, Jesus promises to hear our prayers when we cry out in weakness, and he fills us with his Holy Spirit to make us strong – I believe him so let us be glad and rejoice in it.
- This is the day, Jesus promises that he will return from the right hand of God, resurrect us all and right every wrong that still exists in this world until we, his forgiven people, reside with him in a new creation – I believe him so, let us be glad and rejoice in it.
- This is the day, Jesus has promised never to leave you or forsake you, but to be with you in your cancer, in your divorce, in your depression, in your loneliness, in your breakups and in your breakdowns. He promised to be with you in your bad hair days – I believe him so let us rejoice and be glad in it
-This is the day, we celebrate He is risen and I believe, so let us be glad and rejoice in it. Amen!
