Summary: We believe Jesus forgives, we must let Him. Come and let us cast the problem into the sea of forgetfulness.

BURY THE PAST, OR IT WILL BURY YOU!

GOD FORGIVES, LET HIM...

TEXT:

1 Timothy 5:24 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and

some men they follow after.

I HAVE IN MY HAND A FISHING ROD AND A REEL...

1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may

exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about,

seeking whom he may devour:

MY SON WAS SPEAKING AND HE USED THE ILLUSTRATION OF A PICK UP TRUCK.

If you loaded 14 tons in the bed of the truck the tires would go flat and the truck

could not hold up under the weight.

But if you loaded the same amount on a heavy duty trailer, the truck could pull

the weigh.

The design of the truck could not support the heavy load...

THERE CAN GROW A THROW UP SPIRIT---

WHERE YOU REFUSE TO LET GO OF THE NEGATIVE PAST AND YOU KEEP

HITTING YOURSELF IN THE HEAD AND HINDER YOUR PROGRESS.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever

believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son

into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

I heard a little story of real life.

Two kids went every summer and spent some time with the grandparents on a

farm out in the country.

One day the Grandfather gave Johnny a neat sling shot that he had made.

Johnny would have a pocket of small rocks and he would practice shooting stuff.

He rarely hit what he was aiming.

One day Johnny saw his Grandmother's pet duck. He took aim and on his first

shot the duck fell down dead.

Johnny knew his grandmother loved that duck and he would break her heart.

There was a big wood pile where the wood for winter was stacked.

Johnny hid the duck's body under a pile of wood.

WELL, TO JOHNNY'S SURPRISE HIS SISTER SALLY WAS WATCHING AND

SAW THE WHOLE EPISODE OF THE SLING SHOT.

So sister Sally used the dead duck to blackmail her brother.

The family finished supper and Granny said: Come on Sally let us do the dishes.

Sally told her Grandmother, Johnny wants to do the dishes tonight.

Sally pointed to the pile of wood. Johnny said sure, I want to help you, Granny.

Grandpa said: Come on Johnny let us go fishing.

Grandma said: I need Sally to help prepare dinner.

Sally just looked over to the wood pile and Johnny said, Sally, you go fishing

and I will help cook.

Every night when they were praying Sally would whisper: Johnny remember the duck.

After a week of Sally throwing up the dead duck, Johnny was helping his Granny

do the dishes and he bowed his head and said: GRANDMOTHER, I HAVE SOMETHING

TO TELL YOU, I WAS PLAYING WITH THE SLINGSHOT AND I KILLED YOUR PET

DUCK. GRANNY, I AM SO SORRY.

GRANDMOTHER SAID: JOHNNY, I KNOW ALL ABOUT IT. I WAS LOOKING OUT

THE WINDOW AND SAW THE WHOLE THING. I SAW YOU KILL THE DUCK AND

THEN I SAW YOU CARRY IT OVER TO THE WOOD PILE. JOHNNY, I LOVE YOU,

I FORGAVE YOU RIGHT THEN BUT YOU NEEDED TO CONFESS. I WONDERED

HOW LONG YOU WOULD LET SALLY BE MEAN TO YOU AND USE YOU AS A

SLAVE BEFORE YOU WOULD COME TO ME.

How many of us allow the enemy to remember our past and the failures & guilt load

we carry IS DESTROYING OUR VICTORY?

WHY? CAN WE UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE TRAVELING FROM NORTH TO SOUTH

VS. TRAVELING FROM EAST TO WEST?

Psalm 103:11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them

that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions

from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

Come visit with me, I live 70 miles north of Nashville, Tennessee. So let us travel NORTH.

Our journey can only go so far NORTH, we will hit the NORTH POLE and visit Santa Claus.

Now what, our journey will start SOUTH. You can only go so far NORTH and then you will

be headed south.

NOW, LET US TRAVEL FROM THE EAST TO THE WEST?

You can travel your whole live from east to west, and you will still be going EAST.

NEVER GO FISHING IN THE SEA OF FORGETFULNESS...

Micah 7:19 He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities;

and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

HEAR MY HEART --- JANUARY 1968 ---

I do not say this is a DREAM FROM GOD, as I have been known to eat pizza before I

go to bed, but listen to my heart.

I am the SON OF A PREACHER MAN.

I was raised in Sunday School and in the church.

In December 1967 I turned 16, SWEET 16...

On January 1, 1968, I SINNED. I did something I knew was wrong. I knew better.

Before the sun went down, I REPENTED and BEGGED Jesus to forgive me.

The next service, while the worship team was singing, I laid down my guitar and went to

the altar. I cried and begged God: PLEASE FORGIVE ME!

The next day, I REMEMBERED, How could I have done this sin?

I again begged God to forgive me of my sin.

Everyday I would find a quiet spot and beg Jesus to forgive me.

Later that year we moved to Springfield, Illinois and often my enemy would remind me of

my stupidity and weakness.

Well, in 1970 I graduated from High School, I always remember January 1, 1968 and repented.

I started attending college in east Tennessee, later that year, I married.

I would often remember that dreaded day in 1968.

One day in 1973, I came to the apartment and took a nap. Before going to sleep, I remembered

January 1, 1968 --- and repented again.

The next thing I remember Jesus was standing before me. I was guilty --- condemned.

I said: JESUS, REMEMBER JANUARY 1,1968 --- PLEASE FORGIVE ME...

Jesus had a big book in his hand and he started flipping through the pages...

I saw, 1952, then 1957, and as he turned I could see the dates nearing my SIN DAY.

FINALLY, THE DAY APPEARED... Jesus stroked his beard and said: HUM...

I stood there hopeless and guilty... With his hand touching his beard, he again said: HUM!

I knew I was in big trouble. I reached out and touched the book and pulled it down where

I could see the date: 1/1/1968... I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES ---

JANUARY 1, 1968 WAS WHITE AS SNOW... THERE WERE NO CHARGES AGAINST ME...

I said: JESUS, I KNOW IT WAS JANUARY 1, 1968, I WROTE THE DATE DOWN IN FRONT

OF MY BIBLE... JESUS SAID: I ACCEPTED YOUR REPENTANCE AND IT IS NO LONGER

RECORDED AGAINST YOU.

I said: THEN WHY NOT REMOVE THE UGLY MEMORY OF THAT DATE FROM MY MIND.

JESUS SAID: IF I ERASE THE MEMORY YOU MIGHT DO THE SAME THING AGAIN.

Jesus smiled at me and left.

Many times I have remembered this experience and I am thankful for a forgiving SON OF GOD.

John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her,

Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man,

Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

THE BRIDGE BUILDER!

By Will Allen Dromgoole

An old man going a lone highway, Came, at the evening cold and gray,

To a chasm vast and deep and wide. Through which was flowing a sullen tide

The old man crossed in the twilight dim,The sullen stream had no fear for him;

But he turned when safe on the other side

And built a bridge to span the tide.“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,

“You are wasting your strength with building here; Your journey will end with the ending day,

You never again will pass this way; You’ve crossed the chasm, deep and wide,

Why build this bridge at evening tide?” The builder lifted his old gray head;

“Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said, “There followed after me to-day

A youth whose feet must pass this way. This chasm that has been as naught to me

To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be; He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;

Good friend, I am building this bridge for him!”
