Summary: The Word John is talking about in his first chapter is the Greek word “logos.. “Logos” is more than just speech; It is God’s preeminent agent in the world. It is what God uses to create, to destroy, and to redeem.

John 1:1-5 (AMP)

1 IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.

2 He was present originally with God.

3 All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.

4 In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men.

5 And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].

John 1:10-12 (AMP)

10 He came into the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him [did not know Him].

11 He came to that which belonged to Him [to His own—His domain, creation, things, world], and they who were His own did not receive Him and did not welcome Him.

12 But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name—

VERY BRIEFLY WITH THE HELP OF THE LORD AND THE GUIDIANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT I WANT TO REASON WITH YOU ON THE THOUGHT

(JUST GIVE ME THE WORD )

THE WORD –A LAMP UNTO MY FEET AND A LIGHT UNTO MY PATH

THE WORD –STRENGHT IN A TIME OF TROUBLE

MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS

The Gospel of John differs in many ways from the other three gospels found in the New Testament,

and for this reason John is not categorized as a synoptic Gospel like Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

But A distinguishable aspect of this Gospel is the vast reduction that is applied to the things listed in the other gospels as this author chooses to focus on the person and identity of Jesus as the Christ,

The Son of God, and faith in his name.

Our scripture text today is located in the portion of the text known as “the prologue” of John’s gospel.

It contains the longest introduction of any gospel, and it emphasizes that Jesus is not only a human being but a social being,

The incarnation of God.

John wants us to know that Jesus is both fully human and fully divine.

Immediately in the opening of the gospel,

John explains the way in which he understands the life of Jesus.

That Jesus is and was the Word that was present in the beginning with God.

The Word John is talking about in his first chapter is the Greek word “logos..

“Logos” is more than just speech;

It is God’s preeminent agent in the world.

It is what God uses to create, to destroy, and to redeem.

You see my brothers and sisters

It was with “logos” that God stepped out into nothing and took nothing and made something and took something and made everything

In other words

I’m walking on “logos.. and You’re sitting on “logos..

And this isn’t just any word.------ This is the Word of God.

With just one Word, God speaks things into being.

With just one Word, God can make things go away.

So when God saw that things were going horribly awry with his beautiful creation,

God did what God has always done and sent his Word to make the difference.

You see, that’s all you need today. The Word.

That why those of us who understand the power of the Word don’t mind getting a bad report from the doctor

Because we can let the doctor know that

“Jesus was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed”

Oh my Brothers and sisters,

I’ve come to a place where I don’t need to be a billionare ,

I don’t need fame.

Just give me the Word,

Because when I have the word everything else falls into its place.

Somebody knows what I’m talking about.

It was late in the midnight hour. Momma wasn’t around and daddy couldn’t be found,

So all you had was the Word and as you spoke that Word things had to change.

That’s why somebody ought to help me praise God because the Word works.

It cannot fail.

Verse one of our text,

John declares that in the beginning was the Word.

That’s enough for me to shout right there.

Because before your problem or your situation there was the Word.

I know some of yall are saying

What does this mean preacher.

That means that there is nothing under the sun that the Word cannot fix.

Before there was a beginning there was the Word.

And since we talking so much about the beginning, let’s look at the book of beginnings.

Because In the book of Genesis, chapter one verse 26,

There is something quite interesting:

GOD`S says “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness..

In this great verse, God shows us that the Son (the Word) is already present;

Because the Father and the Son are one and the same.

You see, when the author says that the Word was with God, he is saying that the Word is personal.

It suggests a face-to-face relationship.

In the ancient world, it was important for people of equal standing to sit face-to-face when communicating.

Thus, the Word which is representing Jesus the Christ, is personal and still equally divine with God.

That’s why the next phrase says that the Word was God.

The Bible declares in this same pericope of scripture that “in him was life, and the life was the light of all people” .

This is why I can stand before you today and say that there is no real life until you know Jesus.

Those living without Christ think they are living, but they have no idea what real living is.

John continues, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it” .

Let me pause right here to remind the believer who is getting weary—the darkness/the world does not comprehend the light.

So don’t expect them to appreciate you.

I don’t know who that was for,

But stop getting mad when they don’t pat you on your back at work.

Because darkness simply cannot comprehend the light.

John goes on to say that “He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him…But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God…”

Now, I’m going to try not to get stuck here, but there is something about that name.

You see, demons tremble at that name.

Cancer dries up at that name!

At the name of Jesus, those things that were dead must come to life!

At the name of Jesus, those family members you have been praying for must shake themselves from the world and run to the Savior!

At the name of Jesus, those plans that the enemy had made are diverted and aborted.

At the name of Jesus!

I`m not talking about Mohammed.

I`m not talking about the Buddha.

And I`m sure not talking about Confucius.

But I`m talking about the all powerful, one true and living King Jesus.

And I declare that there is power in that name.

An I don`t know about you

I can’t help but I get excited every time I hear that name.

JESUS

Finally, John says,

“And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his

glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth”

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury,

The Bible declares that the Word put on a flesh suit and began to walk with

us.

And when he put on that flesh suit, he understood our predicaments

You see

He understood what it was like to battle thoughts of fornication and sexual

sin.

He understood what it was like to battle drugs and alcohol.

Jesus had to be born in the flesh to show us how the flesh can be defeated.

That’s why we don’t have to give in every time our flesh craves somethings

That’s why

I get excited every time I get a chance to hear the Word!

Because it`s the Word gets me up every morning.

The Word starts me on my way.

The Word keeps me in my right mind.

When there is no food on my table, I have the Word.

When there is no gas in my car, I have the Word.

When there is no money in my pocket, I have the Word.
