The COMMITMENT(:19-22)

Explanation: (:19-22)

:19—“And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male & female.”

Besides Noah’s family, there were to be 2 of every kind of animal in the ark with him. These co-riders were to be taken from “every living thing of all flesh.”

It was Noah’s responsibility to see that these creatures would enter the ark—“you shall bring.”--cf. :20; 7:13-15.

While in the ark they were to remain “alive.” It would defeat God’s purpose if even one “of all flesh” were to go missing & thus bring death to that particular “kind” of animal(:20).

cf.--7:2-3—seven each of ‘clean’ animals & 7 each of birds.

The salvific nature of the ark is now clear & implied. Noah’s ark will be the means of preserving the living creatures of the original creation(1:20-28).

Of “every living thing of all flesh” included only those creatures which Noah?(See :20—“will come to you”) would have recognized as reproducing sexually, as both “male & female” are entrusted to Noah’s purpose.

These would be the “every living thing of all flesh” which would fall easy victim to the flood.

The animals were to remain alive along with Noah & his family. The animals required pairing because they were to be male & female. This was to ensure that they would propagate when the flood was over.

“Everything”2X(See :17—“Every...thing”)—lk kol—1) All, the whole. Strong—properly, The whole; hence, All, any or every (in the singular only, but often in a plural sense).

“Living thing”(See :17— “of Life”)—yx khah'-ee—Adj.—1) Living, alive. Noun Masc.—2) Relatives; 3) Life(abstract emphatic). N. f.—4) Living thing, animal; 5) Community. Strong—Alive; hence, Raw(flesh); Fresh(plant, water, year), Strong; also (as noun, especially in the feminine singular & masculine plural)--Life(or living thing), whether literally or figuratively.

“Keep alive”(See :20)—hyx khaw-yaw’—Hiphil Infinitive—1) To live, have life, remain alive, sustain life, live prosperously, live for ever, be quickened, be alive, be restored to life or health. Strong—a primitive root [compare hwx khaw-vah']; To live, whether literally or figuratively; causatively, to revive.

“Male”—rkz zaw-kawr’—1)properly--Remembered, i.e. A male(of man or animals, as being the most noteworthy sex).

“Female”—hbqn nek-ay-baw'—1) Female—1a) Woman, female child, 1b) Female animal.

:20—““Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, & of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive.””

Birds, animals, & creeping things were included in those male & female animals which would come to escape on the ark Noah would build.

God required that two of each “kind” would come to Noah. We do not know the particulars of Noah’s part in loading the ark.

The animals would “come to” Noah. Thus he would not have to search for & trap & collect. Noah’s calling was to provide a place for the animals when the flood came. This he did by faith. Noah’s faith freed God’s hand to employ His power to do what only He would do!

“Birds/Fowls”—Pwe `owph—Noun Masc.—1) Flying creatures, fowl, insects, birds. Strong—A bird(as covered with feathers, or rather as covering with wings), often collectively. Same as in 1:21.

“Kind”3X—Nym miyn—Noun Masc.—1) Kind, sometimes a species(usually of animals). Groups of living organisms belong in the same created "kind" if they have descended from the same ancestral gene pool. This does not preclude new species because this represents a partitioning of the original gene pool. Information is lost or conserved not gained. A new species could arise when a population is isolated & inbreeding occurs. By this definition a new species is not a new "kind" but a further partitioning of an existing "kind.” Strong—from an unused root meaning to portion out; A sort, i.e. Species. Same as in 1:21.

“Animals/Cattle”—hmhb be-hay-maw’—Noun Fem.—1) Beast, cattle, animal. Strong–from an unused root(probably meaning to be mute); properly--A dumb beast; especially any large quadruped or animal(often collective). Same as in 1:24.

“Creeping thing”—smr reh’-mes—Noun Masc. Collective—1) Creeping things, moving things, creeping organism. Strong—A reptile or any other rapidly moving animal. Same as in 1:24.

“Earth” (compare Ura :11, 12, :13 2X, :17 2X)—hmda ad-aw-maw’—Noun Fem.—1) Ground, land. Strong—from Mda; Soil(from its general redness).

From—Mda aw-dam'; to show blood(in the face), i.e.Flush or turn rosy.

“Come”—(See “Bringing” :17; & “Go into” :18)—awb bow'—Verb—Qal Imperfect—1) To go in, enter, come, go, come in. Strong—a primitive root; To go or come(in a wide variety of applications).

“To You”—la ‘el(ale) (but only used in the shortened constructive form—la ‘el)—Prep.—1) To, toward, unto(of motion); 2) Into(limit is actually entered)—2a) In among; 3) Toward(of direction, not necessarily physical motion); 4) Against(motion or direction of a hostile character); 5) In addition to, to; 6) Concerning, in regard to, in reference to, on account of; 7) According to(rule or standard); 8) At, by, against(of one's presence); 9) In between, in within, to within, unto(idea of motion to). Strong—a primitive particle; properly--denoting motion towards, but occasionally used of a quiescent position, i.e. Near, with or among; often in general--To.

“Keep alive”(See :19)—hyx khaw-yaw’—Hiphil(causative) Infinitive—1) To live, have life, remain alive, sustain life, live prosperously, live for ever, be quickened, be alive, be restored to life or health. Strong—a primitive root [compare hwx khaw-vah']; To live, whether literally or figuratively; causatively, to revive.

:21—““And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, & you shall gather it to yourself; & it shall be food for you & for them.””

Noah was to gather all edibles as “food” for himself—& thus for his family.

Notice that Noah represents & is responsible for his entire family.

The edibles that were to be gathered were also to be “food” for sustaining all the animals.

“You”3X—hta at-taw' OR (shortened), ta at-taw’, OR--ta 'ath, feminine(irregular) sometimes, yta at-tee'--plural masculine, Mta at-tem' feminine, Nta at-ten' OR--hnta at-tay'naw OR--hnta at-tane’-naw—Personal Pronoun—1) You(second person sing. masc.). Strong—a primitive pronoun of the second person; Thou & thee, or plural--Ye & you. Used 11X.

“Take”—xql law-kakh'—Qal Imperative—1) To take, get, fetch, lay hold of, seize, receive, acquire, buy, bring, marry, take a wife, snatch, take away. Strong—a primitive root; To take (in the widest variety of applications).

“Food”(Compare hlka below)—lkam mah-ak-awl’—Noun Masc.—1) Food, fruit, meat. Strong—An eatable (including provender, flesh & fruit).

From—lka aw-kal'(“Eaten”) below.

“Eaten/Edible”—lka aw-kal'—Niphal Imperfect—1) To eat, devour, burn up, feed; 1b) Niphal--1b1) To be eaten(by men), 1b2) To be devoured, consumed(of fire), 1b3) To be wasted, destroyed(of flesh). Strong— a primitive root; To eat(literally or figuratively).

“Gather”—Poa aw-saf'—Qal Perfect—1) To gather, receive, remove, gather in. Strong—a primitive root; To gather for any purpose; hence, To receive, take away, i.e. Remove(destroy, leave behind, put up, restore, etc.).

“Food” (Compare lkam above)—hlka ok-law’—Noun Fem.—1)Food. Used 18X.

:22—“Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.”

Noah “did” everything that God desired. God’s certain & undeniable “command” was all Noah needed to enter & complete his journey by/into God’s will.

Indeed Noah was “a just man,” “perfect in his generations,” & “walked with God”(:9)...Otherwise this project/command/task would never have seen completion.

Likewise, if you & I are unfaithful, then God cannot bring His desire to completion thru you/us. How tragic that scenario is for others including yourselves/myself!

However, if you & I are faithful, then God will bring His desire to fruition & completion thru us.

If God speaks audibly(physically) to us rather than directly to our hearts(thru the Holy Spirit), then our attentions may not necessarily be upon the things of God at every moment, but upon ourselves; that is, until our thoughts are interrupted by His audible voice again.

What I am saying is that it is an awesome blessing to have the Holy Spirit direct our thoughts regardless of time or place!

“Did”—hse aw-saw'—Qal Imperfect—1) To do, fashion, accomplish, make. Strong—a primitive root; To do or make, in the broadest sense & widest application.

“Commanded”—hwu tsaw-vaw'—Piel Perfect—1) To command, charge, give orders, lay charge, give charge to, order. Strong—a primitive root; intensively--To constitute, enjoin.

Argumentation:

Prov. 16:1-3—“The preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the spirits. Commit your works to the LORD, And your thoughts will be established.”

Ps. 37:3-9—“Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret--it only causes harm. For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth.”

And the earth will be remade in righteousness(Rev. 21:1-3ff.)

Php. 4:6-9—“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer & supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; & the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts & minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue & if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things. The things which you learned & received & heard & saw in me, these do, & the God of peace will be with you.”

True Commitment to God is not mechanical but heartfelt driven by love for Him.

1Pet. 5:6-7—“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

Mat. 7:15-23—““Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down & thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, & done many wonders in Your name?’ “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

Mat. 12:47-50—“Then one said to Him, “Look, Your mother & Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.” But He answered & said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother & who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples & said, “Here are My mother & My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother & sister & mother.””

Mat. 21:28-32—““But what do you think? A man had two sons, & he came to the first & said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ “He answered & said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it & went. “Then he came to the second & said likewise. And he answered & said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. “Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors & harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness, & you did not believe him; but tax collectors & harlots believed him; & when you saw it, you did not afterward relent & believe him.”

Heb. 3:12-15—“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.””

Rev. 3:1-3—““And to the angel of the church in Sardis write, ‘These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God & the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. Be watchful, & strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. Remember therefore how you have received & heard; hold fast & repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, & you will not know what hour I will come upon you.”

Rev. 3:14-16—““And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful & True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, & neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”

2Tim. 3:1-5—“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”

1Jn. 2:18-21—“Little children, it is the last hour; & as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, & you know all things. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, & that no lie is of the truth.”

Lk. 9:57-62—“Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes & birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go & bury my father.” Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go & preach the kingdom of God.” And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go & bid them farewell who are at my house.” But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, & looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.””

Acts 5:17-32—“Then the high priest rose up, & all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), & they were filled with indignation, & laid their hands on the apostles & put them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors & brought them out, & said, “Go, stand in the temple & speak to the people all the words of this life.” And when they heard that, they entered the temple early in the morning & taught. But the high priest & those with him came & called the council together, with all the elders of the children of Israel, & sent to the prison to have them brought. But when the officers came & did not find them in the prison, they returned & reported, saying, “Indeed we found the prison shut securely, & the guards standing outside before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside!” Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, & the chief priests heard these things, they wondered what the outcome would be. So one came & told them, saying, “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple & teaching the people!” Then the captain went with the officers & brought them without violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, & intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!” But Peter & the other apostles answered & said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince & Savior, to give repentance to Israel & forgiveness of sins. And we are His witnesses to these things, & so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.””

Mom Accused of DUI While Picking Up Child From School:

By: Associated Press

August 24, 2017

LADY LAKE, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida woman told police officers to take her to jail after they stopped her on suspicion of driving under the influence while taking her daughter home from school.

Lady Lake police tell WKMG TV in Orlando that multiple people called 911 Tuesday afternoon to report a vehicle swerving and driving erratically. An officer stopped 34-year-old Annette Nesbitt, who couldn't provide her ID, registration or proof of insurance.

An arrest affidavit says Nesbitt had just picked the child up from school. When the officer asked if she saw a problem driving erratically with her child in the car, she said, "I'm a terrible, horrible mom."

She refused a sobriety test, adding "just take me to jail."

She's charged with DUI and child endangerment. No lawyer is listed on records.
