The Same Problem, The Same Solution
(Genesis 3)
Intro
1. I buy my own Christmas gifts....Paul Whiteman, "King of Jazz" 1930...
2. Color; first "music video"....also, some off color jokes....
3. Since the fall, human beings have always been sinners, the world has
been less than ideal.
4. We live in an age of marvels....the teen SS Class marker
board...computers...cloning...cellular phones, internet/e-mail, pager,
radar for cars, satellite/cable TV.....like babel, nothing impossible...
5. With all our advances, do we need the Gospel anymore? What can it
do that technology has not? Isn’t it old fashioned and no irrelevant?
I. The Fall Itself (Gen.3:1-13)
1. Adam and Eve created with free will, no predisposition to sin...
2. Eve: eat or touch...
3. Satan....serpent.....will not die...be like God
4. Adam: silent (emotional/relinquishment of resp.)
5. Conscious of nakedness (posterity? social awareness?) fig leaves...
6. God...where are You....naked? who told you? the woman you gave
me...the serpent....(Passing the buck began in Eden)...
II. The Consequences of the Fall: The Curse...(14-24)
1. The serpent: crawling....
2. Eve: pain in childbirth....(16)
-----ruled over by husband (not just lead, but ruled over)....
3. Adam: ground/universe cursed...thorns/thistles....
4. Result: mankind now born with a predispositon to sin, alienated from
God...
5. Entropy (2nd law of thermodynamics) took effect....decay...
6. Image of God in man is now marred....spiritually dead, but still retains
some of what it means to be in God’s image (creativity, compassion...etc.)

7. This is why everything is messed up in Y2K or any year previous....
III. The Hope: A Redeemer (Genesis 3:15)
1. Virgin birth.....her seed, "Rise the woman’s conquering seed, bruise in
us the serpent’s head...."
2. Crushing of Satan....
3. The garments God made (21)--shedding of blood to cover shame....
4. Romans 8:18-23....
Main IDEA: The world is in a mess because people are a mess. It is an
old problem and needs to be addressed with the old message of the
Gospel.
1. The Gospel is as relevant in Y2K as it ever has been.
2. People need the Lord.
3. Christians who live consistently with their faith command respect and
attention---they earn a right to speak.
4. So grow in the Lord; earn that right to be heard & taken seriously...
5. And if you are not yet saved, start the Millennium off right!
