Does Sin Have You or Do You Have Sin?

I John 1:8 ¶ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Many people think they can hide sin. Some think they can control sin. Others think they have no sin.

I. Hidden Sin.

Joshua 7:19-25

A. Hidden from others. (Things no one knows about.)

B. Hidden for others. (Things that are smoothed over because of who it is.)

C. Hidden with others. (Sins committed with others that you don’t want in the open.)

II. Small Sin.

I Samuel 15:12-23

A. Missing the mark on marginal issues.

B. Rationalizing things.

1. How much is too much.

2. Others are doing it.

C. Pick and choose.

III. Ingnorance of Sin

Ecclesiasties 11:5-6

A. Many use the excuse, "I didn’t know any better".

B. There can be an ignorance.

C. That ignorance does not need to continue.

IV. Removal of Sin

I John 1:8 - 2:6

A. Our sins are forgiven 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

B. Our sin nature is removed. I Corinthians 5:16-19

B. A new nature arises. 2 Corinthians 6:11 - 18
