I. WHAT IS REPENTANCE

Repent (Webster’s) - to turn for sin and dedicate oneself to the amendment of

one’s life

Back of my Bible - to turn away from sin; to be sorry for what you have done

and to promise not to do it again.

II. REPENTANCE IS FOR EVERYONE

thieves on the cross - not for everyone if they don’t want it

III. DIFFERENT TYPES OF REPENTANCE

A. Non-Repentance

King Saul (his heart grew harder and harder), children of Israel (especially the northern

10 tribes talked about in the Major and Minor Prophets)

B. “Get out of HELL free” Repentance

2 Types - True Repentance & False Repentance

1. Death Bed/Sudden Circumstance Repentance

------not the thief on the cross

2. To Make Us Feel Better Repentance

our “OUT” - to make us feel better

C. Half-Hearted Repentance

Short-term, not Long-term repentance - the Israelites in the wilderness

“I Want Forgiveness Yet I Don’t Want To Change My Ways!!!”

D. Full (True) Repentance

“I Want Forgiveness AND I Want To Change My Ways!!!”

Joel 2:12,13 - “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me will all your heart, with

fasting and weeping and mourning.” 13 “Rend your heart and not your garments.

return to the Lord you God, for he is compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in

love, and He relents from sending calamity.”

Acts 26:20 - First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all

Judea, and to the Gentiles also, I preached that they should repent and turn to God

and prove their repentance by their deeds.
