Summary: Who is Jehovah? and What Place Does He Have in My Life?

Our Creator-God

“I will give thanks unto thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psm 139:14)

Thesis: For all to come to a more complete understanding of our Father and His place in our life.

Intro:

1. That God has revealed Himself in the Bible is a fact that is accepted by all who believe that the book is of divine origin.

2. Psm 19:1 and Romans 1:20 tell us that He made Himself known through the material creation of the world.

a. We must keep in mind that no one can learn the Identity of God from Nature as the source.

b. We only learn from that source that there must have been a creator.

3. As you study the Bible; you come to realize that God has a three-fold relationship with that He has created; Creator, Lawgiver, Redeemer

a. Each of these three relationships carry with them three characteristics;

i. As Creator: there is wisdom, power, and goodness,

ii. As Lawgiver; there is justice, truth, and holiness.

iii. As Redeemer there is mercy, condescension, and love.

b. Observe as well, in each of these three characteristics,

i. He is infinite, immutable, and eternal.

4. Let us open our minds and Bibles together tonight, and discover who God really is to us. And what He has in store for us!

As Our Creator (Gen 1:26-28)

1. He is Wise.

a. Job 11:6 And that he would show thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of thee less than thine iniquity deserves

b. He knows that we are creatures of habit and weakness.

c. Job says here that He is merciful, giving us less in judgment than our sins deserve

d. In cases of wisdom God knows all, feels all, sees all, is all.

e. We must place our trust in him that would have us to be His children.

f. Rom 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

2. He is Powerful

a. Ps 29:4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty

b. The power of God is indescribable.

i. We see power in nature (earthquake, tornado, forest fire)

ii. We know this power to be nothing compared the hands that give life.

3. He is Goodness

a. Exod 34:6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

b. This goodness is the well in which mercy and Grace flow

i. It is this attribute that we find Salvation for all.

1. 1 Tim 2:4-5 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

As Lawgiver

1. Justice is God’s realm, not to be confused with man’s judgment.

a. Isa 33:22 For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.

b. We are given a certain set of prescribes principles to follow in our lives.

c. It is the adherence to these that makes us acceptable or not to God.

d. We must be careful that we follow God’s laws and not man’s tradition.

e. James 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judges another?

2. We find TRUTH

a. Ps 31:4-5 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength. Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

b. David’s comfort here in this passage reflects the trust he had in His God.

c. In the inspired Word of God, we find nothing but truth. It is the absence of falsehood that proves that the Bible is the work of God and not man.

d. God is truth. He speaks it. He revealed it for all to have. He expects us to follow it till the coming of His Son.

3. We find HOLINESS

a. What is Holiness?

i. That which is sanctified, set apart. God-like in appearance and attitude.

ii. 1 Chr 16:29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

b. Luke 1:75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

As Redeemer we find in God:

1. Mercy

a. Receiving mercy is being granted that which you do not deserve.

b. One sin inherits us the depths of hell; mercy saves us from that awful destination.

c. Exod 15:13-14 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. The people shall hear, and be afraid

d. 1 Chr 16:34 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endures for ever.

e. Forever in that context means that it endures until the time of Judgment.

2. Condescension

a. To condescend, God is willing to do for us that which is beneath Him.

b. He is willing to hear our intercessions through prayer.

c. He is always willing to accept us as one of His own.

d. This position places us in the realm of Creation: beneath Him: but not beneath His desires for us!

e. Acts 17:27-29 That they should seek the Lord, if happily they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God

3. Love

a. Love of God for us can be measured by only one piece of scripture:

b. John 3:16(a) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,……

c. We cannot fathom the depth of love that a parent has for their child.

d. How can we even begin to consider the Love felt for us- in light of this great sacrifice?

e. We should always look upon our God with this Love in mind.

i. A love that knows no boundries.

ii. A love paid for by the ultimate sacrifice

iii. A love with only one request:

1. Jn 3:16(b) that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

iv. Do you believe that God loves you? Do you know how much?

v. Ps 18:1-3 I will love thee, O LORD, my strength The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
